Why is it that there is no online drift attack mode? What I mean is, there should be a Drift Attack mode were you join a lobby just like entering any online race lobby and each person can go one by one trying to get the highest drift score, and at the end, whoever has the most points wins. I know there are seasonal drift events but why can't there just be a selective mode in which you and a bunch of other people try to beat each others high score? I think this would be a pretty cool addition to online play and it can't be that hard for PD to implement this into GT5.

Likewise, there should be a time trial option in online rooms, PD haven't made the most of GT5, maybe we'll get what we want via updates, but I aint holding my breath.

Points drifting is dumb and I am glad they don't have it online, not just because its boring drifting for points alone, but the physics are also different making it easier to drive.

I remember the reason (in a tweet form Yamauchi) was that in drift mode cars have a higher steering angle (check in replays). I hate however how they don't mention these things in game. Also, thinking about it, they could have added some kind of tuning part which increased or made possible to tweak that angle, exactly as dirt tires "justify" special tire physics in dirt tracks (it should have been possible to use comfort tires for them, however. Dirt tires somehow seem to sticky on paved sections).

Online drifters just want to tandem, they're not worried about points which is exactly why I like drifting online.

Plus could you imagine an online lobby with 16 cars all of which are either a Buick or a TVRs, fun eh?

No, the physics are different. The transitions and overall car mechanics are slower in turn making it easier to drift.

Also a tire being a dirt tire doesn't make it horrible on paved surfaces. Dirt track racing tires have some of the best grip around.

If you check replays, you will see that front wheels in drift mode have a noticeably higher steering angle than normal, but you could be right that there might different physics under play. I admit I haven't bothered enough with such mode to confirm this, though.

That is what I was about to write: dirt tires in the game appear to be some sort of soft racing dirt tires specific for sanctioned rally trials. Road legal tires for mud/dirt terrain (not all-season or winter street tires) in real life aren't that grippy on paved roads and have a quite imprecise feel.

I think that a wider tire selection is needed in GT5 for snow and dirt.
PD should also allow the use of normal tires there.

The drift points mode does not consider speed and hence, ****.

People end up using lazy engined **** cars to drift incredibly slowly with max angle for the longest.

I am totally agree for online tandem drift battles. Dunno how dem (PD) can work it out to bring into da game but no doubt one working day for person developing points and data regarding drift would be rather enougth to bring it to GT5 via update. Plus, a couple of famous tracks like Ebisu circuit and Maze. Plus, Kawabata's Silvia S15 or S13 and Kumakubo's Subaru. Dont understand WHY Kaz doesn't see all our willings about drift, or he's just egnoring us because he is stubborn? Hwo knows, finally he is not knowing how many fans he is missing due to lack of what has been mentioned above...

Sorry for off topic, has enyone mentioned dat drift in GTlife practice and online on da same tires has diferent physics? I use comford hard quite long but when I entered da room yesterday and start free roam I was just like a beginner with my wheel...!!!!
I spun on almoust every corner until got adopted to physics and went on with good perfomance. Tires GRIP was definately different from what I get used in GTlife. Any ideas?

Its been proven on this forum somewhere before and if you can't tell the physics are different then you must not know the physics to well in the game. Maybe using assists has clouded your judgement.

You just answered your own question from a previous post and seeing how this has nothing to do with rally it doesn't need to be in this thread anymore.

Here is one I found. Probably many more.

Also why isn't this in the drifting section since this is clearly about drifting?

man GT5 is a sponsor for D1GP and we get nothing!:nervous:

I just tried drifting once when Yamauchi told in a tweet that in that mode the steering angle was wider, and could confirm that. I haven't investigated further.

The point was as there are special dirt tires [small digression on how those tires seem to good and that they need to have both road and race dirt tires] for dirt races, PD could add special tuning parts for drifting ehnancing certain characteristics that are apparently already secretly applied in drift mode (one of them is the different steering angle, possibly there is more, not just "physics tweaks", or at least I hope).
