I took this picture about six months ago. A group of my friends used to get together to hit baseballs and generally mess around on a baseball diamond. We don't actually like to play baseball, it's a bit slow for us, but hitting and fielding is fun. About six people would be about right. And we now have around 60+ baseballs, so each member gets to "hit a bucket" then we rotate. As long as things keep moving along it's actually quite nice.

How many of you were looking for a different three balls?

I'll post a few more pictures in a minute. Originally I didn't think they were all that great, but I've been told by others that they are "stunning". Interesting word choice if you ask me.

I bought four "cull" bats from Louisville Slugger's online shop.

These bats are great for regular games, practice, collecting or gift giving! They have been removed from the production process due to slight cosmetic flaws in the wood. These defects do not hinder the performance of the bat. Culls come in different models, finishes and logo's and we never know what we will get from the factory. No refunds or returns on factory seconds. They cannot be personalized. Lengths will vary.

You don't get to pick anything about size / weight, so I wanted to order enough to get at least one good one. The amazing thing is, four bats with shipping were less than $100, new bats are about the same price individually. I actually got one bat exactly like I wanted and now I have three more for my bigger friends. The other three were significantly heavier bats.

LM - Those two shots of the baseball are done fantastically. Lovwe the Macro shots. . . The lighting conditions are superb coming in from the right hand side. . . Might I ask was this near sunset or sunrise? And what type of settings and camera did you use?

Those are great images for sure. The graininess and contrast of the B/W images are great. Did you shoot these digitally, in color, then adjust the saturation/brightness/contract digitally?

I was using a Nikon N80 with the standard lense, which I do not recall. At the time I was using TMax 400 B/W film. The digital images were made by scanning the film with a flatbed scanner (Epson 1600) with the transparency adaptor.

In high resolution they actually look like utter crap. But when I shrunk them down real good and small, they ended up not looking so bad.

I believe it was sunset as none of my friends are morning people (:

Yeah normally scanning filmed photos normally come out that way on scanners and as you know only reducing the size makes them look good. . . Once again those shots are great, better yet pure genius :D

That's kind of my style I suppose. I like object photography.

What I really enjoy, though, is perspective. Things trailing off to the horizon and such. Let me find some examples of my stuff for you. The one of the bats is ok with the fence, but I've got some that I like better.

Yeah definately do that. . . I am going out again this weekend with the camera so I'll get you a few of good ones I get - normally I get 1 or 2 good photos out of 100 or so :D, but yes I want to see :D

The train tracks is hypotising. . . How long does that stretch go for and I wish I could read the sign though. . . What I feel would really add to that picture would be sunlight beam maybe after a rain storm appear from the clouds if they were present. . . Beautiful :D

Well, that's the way it goes. Actually, a friend of mine and I find that we get 1 or 2 good shots out of a roll of 36 exposures. We also thought that after a few years of taking pictures that the overall quality of a roll would go up. We think it does, but at the same time our personal standards go up and we still only get a couple satisfactory shots per roll. Kind of ironic, eh? (:

I guess I could photoshop that in, since it is pure white anyway.

The tracks are actually curving to the left in that picture. It's the UP main line that runs East - West through Arkansas and ties with the (very large) UP switch yard in Little Rock. I still need to go down there and take a lot of pictures. I'd like to get a new lense with lower fstop settings so I can use higher grade film.

I think Irony is the bitter sweetness of photography, I just recently got into myself and am having a blast. I think it started when I was drinking myself to death over an ex and all I did was observe people in bars and clubs not really talking much. . . I also go out with about 6 people and we take out probably 3 to 5 cameras depending on the night and we find the later the night the better our photos have been getting. . . Irony it is the method to all mayhem that needs to be captured :D

I wanted to do some night photography. I need to get a good tripod first. I'm more interested in things like light and shadows as far as night is concerned. Not so much with people at bars (:

you would have loved last night here then. . . I am still kicking myself over not bringing a camera, there was this perfect mist coming off the buildings downtown and I kneeled down next to this Benz to check something on the rims and saw a great shot as I turned my head towards the Bank of America Building in Downtown Orlando. . . *kicks self in butt* I am going out again tonight to try to find another shot like that.

the side shot, the last one you posted is my favorite of them. . . The reason is I see myself walking in the room. I can almost touch the pictures, but different peoples perspectives change and alters every image :D

The walk through the porch of history. . . I like that perspective. Give me a Smith and Wesson and a cowboy hat. :D

That's from a sister mission to the Alamo. Pretty interesting stuff.

I like the 'entrance' view as well. By the way, the walls are actually much more gray than that. Somehow the pictures came out more vibrant than I had hoped.

I was going to say the Alamo, but was a little afraid to say that.

I actually agree with how lively the picture looks, when I think of the Alamo I think more of hardship then light. . . But in retrospect it is a new spin on the view towards the Alamo for me. . . I need to visit sometime, I only was there when I was a young.

edit that too - I even think a Sepia would look amazing on that walkway shoot too :D

here check this out. . . a quick mock up . . . not the best

Awesome! I've thought about doing brown tones on some of those kinds of pictures before. I also have a few from the 'Quadrane' at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. It's the original square fort that started what is currently the millitary base there. Some of those would look great in dark browns.
