Its my birthday next week, and I'll be throwing a party bash

I've booked a hotel room, the biggest it has to offer. It has 1 bedroom and 1 large living area with enough room to pack 15-20 heads, the living room also has a seperate bathroom (which can be very useful).

I'm going to be supplying my own alcohol, i've got a bartender friend to help me and we're sorting out the shopping list. The hotel has a lounge bar downstairs so I'm probably going to borrow their glassware. Except the room doesn't have a mini bar, so I'm wondering if that will be an issue when serving drinks. We would also need a fridge, or a large tub of ice for the champagne etc.

I still have to think about what food to provide. Obviously snacks like chips and stuff are easy, but theres no kitchen, so any warm food won't be able to stay warm. Unless I work something out with the room service.

As far as entertainment goes, music, xbox360, poker, drinking games, girls, and lots of alcohol.

Just wanted to throw it out for those of you who've thrown your share of parties, any suggestions or tips are appreciated! Thanks fellas!

Here are a couple shots of parts of the room:

Jelly and Ice cream, pass the parcel and musical chairs - can't go wrong with this combo :sly:

Just make sure you have gift bags to hand out to guests when they leave.

- have you thought about a clown, one who can make things from balloons will go down a treat. 👍 👍 👍

Do the girls know that they are considered as 'entertainment'?

Whoa dude how old are you going to be? happy birthday for next week 👍

From my point of view it looks like you are set. My 18th is in a few months and I am just going to have a barbeque with good people, good music and good drinks. Try to keep it simple.

I'm a little above your age (putting it lightly) - and I'd go for the exact same setup 👍

That hotel room looks horribly expensive to crash !...

Party favors, farm animals, fireworks, a celebrity (local one is OK), Chines people on vacation, an entertainer (lounge singer), a politician, guy with video camera, kiddie pool filled with some type of booze, "little people" and beauticians in bikinis.

This according to all the '80s party movies I've seen over the years.

just make sure everyone knows how to play or the evening could get very tedious!

Make sure to tell people not to invite others, or that credit card of yours will be hit with some HUGE damage charges. Hotel rooms make great party places, but usually when its rented in someone else's name, especially when theres alchohol and/or drugs involved.

You pretty much have the essentials needed, and I wouldn't worry about the food being hot or cold. Have the normal chips, etc., out for everyone during the party, and if you find yourselves getting hungry near the end of it, you can always order pizza or something else hot to fill everyone up. 👍

The mini bar problem can be solved with a simple cooler filled with ice. Its always best to have one for the beer and one for the water/coolers as the beer one will obviously empty first, and that way you won't bury other items when you refill the cooler with more beer. Nothing sucks more then getting a frozen hand as you search through ice and bottles looking for something specific. :grumpy:

Good luck man, and happy early birthday.

snort, snort, LAN PARTY.

EXACTLY! 👍

Forget about posh hotels, if you want a really great party you need to hire yourself a school hall and invite a bunch of men, who are old enough to know better, to sit around playing computer games all weekend. 👍 👍

Thanks for the advice bro. I'm definetely keeping the guest list on a short leash, i know what can happen when strangers crash in!

From my experience, you need a keg and a toilet.

...Your party seems a little more upscale, however, so I don't have much in the way of suggestions.

Zrow, you'll also have to get a stack of the staple red plastic cups with the white brim.

The problem with hotel parties is the noise, and more importantly who and how many people are making that noise. I've been through a lot of hotel parties, and the hardest part of the night(s) is keeping it down enough so the authorities don't come upstairs and find out that there are 18 more poeple in the room than the double-occupancy, like written on the bill. I've also been kicked out of a hotel for a bogus "broken lamp," which was super-questionable. The maid had to clean up a large mess, which she presumed was from more than 2 people, so she took care of it by getting my brother and I exiled from the hotel. That was an isolated incident. Don't be too worried, just practice common sense (regarding drinking noise) and and you won't have any problems with the front desk.

I'd recomend buying a set of cheapo ping-pong balls. That table's perfect for some beer pong. Flippy-cup's my favorite, but it's only a good idea somewhere where you have no noise concerns.

good luck 👍

Oh yeah... make sure you have lots of space and stuff. Make it easy for people to get from pt. A to pt. B in the room and stuff. You might want to turn that table in the pic 90 degrees to create more walking/chilling space.

as for food, im sure a catering company can take care of that. They can deliver huge party platters and it will still be warm :)

If you're gonna have lots of alcohol, just make sure nobody drives home after the party :sly:

Ignoring the fact that it sucks to have to throw your own birthday party, you seem to have everything more or less figured out. I wouldn't even bother with warm food in a hotel room, but make sure you have plenty of snacks, because if people are drinking and not eating, they will get drunk pretty fast and you'll probably have some puke to clean up. Plus, if you haven't done so before, hosting a party is very hard work. Try and create a self-serve atmosphere so you don't have to keep refilling people's drinks all night. If this is your birthday party, you should have fun right?

If you want more food, order room service or have a few pizzas delivered. Make sure people are hungry and that way you won't have to worry about keeping the food warm.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Yeah, can't forget Solo cups. And I'm glad that somebody else likes Flip-Cup more than pong.

I'd also have a large amount of paper towels and things of that nature available, as well as trash cans pretty much everywhere. I wouldn't worry too much about food besides general snack-type things.

Oh yeah; if you put out cocktail shrimp and cocktail weenies, and you have ladies coming, I guarantee you will leave your party without your virginity.

Or, if you are already not a virgin, you will be a virgin -2.

Not a good idea. If you are booked for 2-person occupancy, and the boy brings up (and sees) 15-20 heads, then you might be in a bit of trouble.

Zrow: I'm pretty much equal at both games, skill wise (me and my brother make a killer pong team), but flippy beats the crap out of pong in so many ways. There's more team-work involved, more crowd-interaction, more possibilities for variations and also a lot more action.

Here's a tip for pong players: ask for a rack after one cup. Sink a shot and rack the remaining cups in a straight line. That way you only have one direction to worry about aiming, and same closer cups end up practically right infront of you. Start swishing your throws, but leave the farthest two 'til the end. At this point, you should be killing it, so you can waste some shots. Take a couple steps back for your throw (for hustler effect) and wind up and throw as hard as you can. You can nail two cups off the end of a table with a good throw.

Just one peice of advice, from someone who doesn't know. If you're going to this expense to throw a party, and you think it's gonna be noisy, do yourself a favor and bribe the guys next to, across from, and below you to STFU with the noise complaints.

I've already spoken to the hotel manager and they know I'm throwing a birthday party in the room. They did say that they generally do not allow parties in their guest rooms, but mine is an exception (I had the hotel owner give their manager a call). They did say ask me to keep the noise down as much as I can, and keep the head count under 20 people. There are 2 other rooms on the same floor, I just hope they aren't occupied on that day, because I'm pretty worried about the noise myself.

As for food I agree that its best to stick with simple snacks. Warm food might create a big mess. I'll definetely create a self serve area for food and beer, but still need a "bar" section for mixing the drinks.

But he said he was going to be using the hotel bar's glassware! Surely they would usspect there were more than two people in the room when he asks to borrow 50 glasses?

One suggestion that immediately springs to mind seeing that light-coloured carpet - don't buy or allow any red wine :ouch:

Here's a nice idea... you know how they have those curtains on aeroplanes that separate the nobs from the slobs? (forming a barrier between business class and coach?) Well, put a curtain up across the front door to the room with a little sign saying 'Privileged People's Area' (or something), and that way everyone will feel that little bit more special than everyone else in the hotel. As an extra bonus, when people want to leave, hang the sign on the other side of the curtain, so that when people leave, they will feel special forever...

I think I need a coffee

If and when the party starts to get out of hand... yell: "LETS TRASH THIS PLACE!" and throw something accross the room. Hilarity will ensue!
