I just saw a really cool thunder storm from my office window. It was great to watch as we very rareley get anything like that in the south of England. I have seen many pictures of lightning acroos the US and it is very spectacular and beautiful. Do you guys get big storms near you? Post some pics if you can.

The storm here also caused a power surge in the office. Our neighbour told us that he just lost two out of his four servers. Our UPS stood firm though and we are still going, hehe.
 
I love thunder storms. We get several very large ones here in Florida every summer. A few weeks ago, several small tornados went through my neighborhood during a thunderstorm.
 
Haha. I think it was Saturday. I had a friend over. we were swimming and we decided to swim during the entire the thunderstorm no matter how bad it got.

I was trying to commit suicide... But I was unsuccessful. :lol:

Thunderstorms are better than that damn sun... I hate that sun.
 
I like thunderstorms. I like driving in them, on the highway preferably. We get thunderstorms around here (north fla) that are worse than some tropical storms that have come through here. Storms are great as long as they don't destroy my property.
 
I also like thunderstorms. Especially the huge lightning bolts that dart across the whole sky! We dont get very many at all here in Michigan. The ones at night help me sleep soooooooo good!

What part of north Florida?

Here in Jacksonville we get a round everyday.

But these past few days its been all sun... I hate that damn sun...
 
We too had really bad thunderstorms last night. It started out really cold and misty then in the afternoon got quite warm but the sun was hazy and it was really muggy and "close" - Im sure you know what I mean.

Anyways it was 9.15PM when I got on the train and it started to really pour down, the there was the lightening - it was kind of up above the clouds so you couldnt actually see the bolts themselves but each time it "lightened" the whole sky lit up :cool:

I did manage to see a single bolt when i got off the train though which was good.

The weather is very similair today so we might have some more thunderstorms tonight - I think we'll get a few good pics and some good stories from members here as they are far and wide around the world !!

It's monsoon season here in HK, so that means 33'c heat and 95% humidity and loads and loads of huge thunderstorms. There's not a lot that scares me, but being woken up at 3am by fork lightenting striking the roof of the apartment block under my open window is a brown pants moment I can tell you!

One time, me and my buddy were driving in town during a storm and saw a picture perfect Lightening bolt. One of the ones that seems to be spread out over the entire horizon, it was so f-ing awesome. The other day i kept seeing inner cloud lightining. it was cool, i made the clouds light up kinda pink. It rained/stormed here, every single day for about 3 weeks straight. thank god were getting a little break now. thought i was living in london there for a while :p

Monsoon's sound like fun... If cloud block out the sun... It works for me.

Last summer - when my grandparents took us to the mountain up in North Carolina. It stormed there.
It was nice, cause it rained hard - it was night time. About 10:30PMish - and he was good.
if you stand in the middle of the house - facing the door. and you look right. you got a fantastic view looking to the neighbor moutain peak. When the lightning flashed over there and it was visable. It was about as amazing as it gets.
 
The last time I remember a thunderstorm like the one we are having now was around this time last year. I was driving home from Brighton at about midnight and it was pouring with rain. I could hardly see a thing when the whole sky lit up. As my eyes were tryingto focus and adjusted to the dark, it came as quite a shock!! I couldn't see anything for about 5-10 seconds. Not good when you are aquaplaining at 80mph.

my and my mom went to NC to visit my uncle a few years back, i think i was 16. i drove the entire way i think, about 10hrs straight.... anyways, it started storming and raining around 1 am.. i was cruising along on the highway, probably going about 65-60mph (cause of the rain), and it was dark so i couldnt see real well... well i hit a big patch of standing water and water shot up past my window 10ft high and there was this very loud rushing sound when the car hit the water, needless to say i was pretty startled and my mom, who was sleeping, was pretty startled too. I've driven in some pretty bad rain.

I think the "inner" thing you mentioned was what I saw last night - where the whole clous lights up

I hate thunder storms, because then I have to turn off the computer power, therefore I've got nothing to do. 👎
 
I just looked up from my computer and it is almost dark. Sunset is not expected until around 9pm. It's just gone 4pm here.
 
Large thunderstorms have been forecasted for tonight (Belgium). I love watching severe weather and I will try to photograph lightning with a long exposure time. Takes a lot of patience to do that. :)

A 14 year old boy just died in England after being hit by lightning. What are the chances of that happening I wonder?
 
Do we get thunderstorms is a undersated question for Florida. When don't we is a better question. The Orlando is the second highest area for thunderstorms, to Africa. Largest in the US.

And a little side note, I am typing this while one is forming right now.

The thunderstorms didn't form yesterday, too bad, but hey...

Also, I've lived in Africa for 3.5 years (3 years Dar es Salaam [ = Tanzania ] and 6 months in Cape Town) and thunderstorms were really scarce over there. In the three years that we lived in Dar es Salaam I can only remember a few thunderstorms.

EDIT : The cliché image of thunderstorms over the savanna is not always that realistic and is probably very limited in area.
