Having been a fan of this series, and owning all previous versions, i was very excited to buy the latest addition.

I have been playing it for a few days now and I am still not sure about the game.

Many things have changed in this latest addition, first of all the control. I always used my left hand to do the power boost, and right hand on the right analog stick to take the shot. Starting the game i found that the left analog stick is for the swing now (used to be both), not so much of a problem, except the right stick is for swerve. Rather than swinging at an angle, you now have to use the other stick to choose where on the ball you want to hit to generate swerve. Tapping the powerboost, swinging with the left stick, and swerving with the right, over complicates your shots and makes things very difficult. Although i have now been able to swap the sticks it is still tricky. The swerve seems to be backwards too, hitting the left side of the ball should generate swerve to the right. It doesn't. Although i think this can be changed.

I am having real trouble with my approach shots (something i was always good at). They always end up short. It would seem that you need a slightly different type of swing for them, which I haven't figured out yet.

Putting has changed also. You no longer choose a point to aim for on the green and let the roll take it towards the hole. You now just choose left or right and then determine the power of the shot with your backswing with the analog stick (like all other shots).

The way you progress through the game is different too, The challenges are now putting competitions, driving competitons, skins e.t.c. I haven't been able to enter any tournaments yet. And have actually seem to gone back in to the 20's and am playing fictional characters from that era!!

The way you upgrade your character has changed too. You dont buy stats anymore, you earn them. If you hit a long put, you earn putting points that can be added to your stats. Same with driving, approach e.t.c. The equipment is more complicated. You can buy items from any era, including some strange looking clubs from the turn of the century. I have found it quite difficult to choose which of my clubs I want to use and the equipment modifiers are still baffling me!

All in all, it is still a good game and much like it's predecessors. Alot has changed so it will take some getting used to, but i'm sure i will still be a fan once i progress in the game and get used to all the new features.

I am not going to give this game a score out of ten, simply because i'm sure it will improve the more I play it (i hope so anyway!)

It is a good game though and the 4 player against friends is always good. I will update this thread in the future when i am further into my new golfing career!!

And so ends what is probably the longest thread I have ever written. My arm hurts!!

Peace out.

Sounds like more of a golfers game at long last!! 05 and 04 was too easy, this sounds like the real deal, might have to go nab it.

I rented it the other day and I didn't like it as much. It was to much of a learning curve to get good at it. When I play a game I want it to be fun not frustrating. Also I didn't like the new GameFace, in the other games I was able to make someone who looked just like me, now I can only get kinda close.

Well I'm still playing TW '04, the '05 update offered not enough new stuff imo...
Now I'm waiting for the XBOX360 Tiger Woods 06, which is a kind of small version of
TW 06 for PS2... I really love the grafics of 360TW, so I can live with only 6 courses and a different story mode.

I just got 05 for many of the reasons listed above. I'd never played a golf game before, and 05 was so easy to pick up and play that my girlfriend is now addicted to it and I practically have to fight her on whether the game is going to stay at her house or mine.

i actually took 06 back but still have 05, its a beter game.

Hahaha..same thing here man. My girl has made herself on the game and plays obsessively. She kicks my ass now in this game, its not even funny.. :ouch:

Am I the only one that has a problem hitting any shot, other than a putt, straight? I am only hitting like half of the shots straight; the rest of the time they are going straight right and it is not because of the wind. I am getting extremely frustrated with this It is not like I haven't played the previous games either. Both 2004 and 2005 I got bored with because they became too easy, even on Tour difficulty. This game on the other hand has yet to even really be fun at all because of not being able to hit a shot straight when i am pulling the stick straight back and straight up. I am also annoyed but the lack of feel for any distance on putting also. For me, it has been hit or miss every time. It's either really close because the distance is right on one of the "preset" distances or an easy distance to manage. But "tweeners" and its a hope and prayer it goes in or gets close. I hope the game becomes easier as I play it more, otherwise I am going to destroy the freakin' thing.
