Its a time attack

Laps : 6
Mods : OPEN
Vehicle : 3000GT VR4 turbo
Track : Midfield
Challenge : Do 6 laps on Midfield and show your best time.

Battle ends Monday 26th @ 6pm.

Whos up for it? This race shows your driving and tunning skills. Talk to anyone who knows cars and ask them about the 3000GT, theyll throw in something about it bieng heavy, which is true. So use your tunning skills and get the beast to set some lap records!

Looks like nobody wants to put there tunning skills to use..

Most of us had two probs with this.
Our lives interfered. Leave it open we might be able to get to it. It sounds semi-interesting.
The second problem was the close date.
The 3000 also doesn't have a lot of supporters.
I will give it a shot sometime.
Post your times so we have a target.

BTW: Do we have until May 26th? That's the next month with the 26th falling on a Monday.

I am very eager to join a competition for a majority of the forum to compete in.

You are on the right track, keeping it kind of simple. The problem is, that you didn't specify the amount of upgrading we can do. So I can only assume people are going to go with full tuned 1,000+hp 3000GT's. I dont even want to bother with that. Too unreasonable.

Pick a car that has a maxed hp of somewhere around 500-600hp. A good car would be one of the WRX's. Or just give a Hp limit.

If you do that, with no end-date. I will give it a go. Remember, the rules of advertising. Keep it simple and attention grabbing. 99% of people will glance at something and decide if it is worth investing any more time in, in the first 2 seconds. If they can pretty much read all of the stipulations in that time. You'll probably find alot more participators. Also, make the title more eye grabbing and involving. Like "GTPlanet member's official race". Well, that was a sad example, but dont rely on the viewer to be inquisitive into a cloudy title like yours.

If someone can succeed in getting a lot of peoples participation in an on-line event, it would be Jordan.

I think a very enriching thing for the forums, would be a different monthly competition put on by Jordan. That way more people would join. However, the chances that you have read this far into my message are quite slim. And I doubt that this will ever go into consideration.

ok then ill reopen it :D

What I meant about MODS : open, was that you can do anything to the car as long u get fast lap times, and the main point of this challenge is to tame the heavy beast that nobody even wants to bother with..oh and ill put my times ASAP!

thnx guys :P

Did you actually READ the first post of this thread.
The Car is not the Trueno and the Track is not Trial mountain.
Do not attempt to "jack" the thread.
I'll run a few laps on this one tomorrow in the AM and post my times.
That's GTO (Mitsu 3000GT-VR-4) at Midfield.

I've put in a few laps with the "beast".
I ran it stock first to see what I could get out of it.
First off, this is a pretty neat ride, with some interesting handling quirks.
The biggest obstacle to going really quickly in the stock machine is the fact that when you let off the gas to turn, the car turns in beautifully. But, as soon as you get back on the gas you MUST be pointing in the direction you wish to go or the power of this car will take you right to the outside of the turn. And not always the way you want to go.
My initial times with the stocker (oil change only) were 1'28.374 for my best run.
Keep in mind this is with a car that weighs 1,710 kg (3,762 lb) and with extremely long gearing. I rarely got it into fifth gear, much less sixth.
Once I started messing with the tuning, including a major low-fat diet (down to 1453 kg), and T5 tires things got a bit more interesting.
I bumped the HP up to 611, with and tweaked the tranny, and the VCD down to 30%, stiffened up the suspension, and learned to be gentle on the brakes. I knocked my time down to 1'14.944.
Keep in mind that this car still weighs in just shy of 3,200 lb. It will never be truly nimble. But I would take it up the Highway anytime.:p
I may have to get the Newer model VR-4 in the game, as it starts 30 kg lighter and is a bit more areodynamic and see what I can do with it...

Gill, I decided to give this a try, using your template.

After a couple runs in stock trim (oil change only) i managed a 1.26.987

I stuck to the 6 lap rule, which doesn't give much time for precise tuning. My tuned version had 609HP, T5 tires, weight reduction, and VCD at 30%. I definitely don't have the inclination to put any less than 30% power to the front. After 6 laps, i had a Hot Lap of 1:13.104 with room for improvement.

I like the looks of this car, and i had the opportunity to see/hear one in real life this year. However, this car handles like a pig due to it's weight. It was necessary to coast through much of the turn, and gently toe the throttle at the corner's exit.

Sticking to the 6 lap provision limited my time for trial and error tuning. The 6 lap limit was almost a blessing, because i didn't really feel like taming this beast.

I'll take up your challenge! The 300GT is actually one of my favorite cars in real life. Ironically enough I have never driven one in the game though.

I'm with you on the six lap limit. This is a difficult car to manhandle.
I think I might be able to beat my time in a Lotus Elise or MotorSport Elise with half the HP. (but 3 times the agility)
I went with the T5's because I figured that not too many of us would set it up for racing with anything softer. I go with the VCD set a bit low because I want to induce FR handling.
I may have to try this in a Lotus for kicks and giggles.

Ok I did an initial run(oil change) like Gil and got 1'28.749. Afterwards I did an all out upgrading, im not gonna list everything I did cuz I did just that, Everything. i used T8 tires, Lv 5 ACM, Lv 3 TCS, and 50% VCD. After 6 my fastest was 1'08.288. I wanna do some more tweaking with the tuning but im going to bed so I will do it tomarrow.

Griff,
How much Hp were you running. I stopped at 611, because of the difficulty of handling most cars over 700HP. I also used T5's because I may want to actually race this beast sometime.
I am truly curious re: your settings. I may go Hog wild and put everything on the GTO just to see what it'll do.

I'm sure he has in excess of 900HP, since he put on every possible mod. Gil, i also put on T5's for racing. T8's would do you no good in a multi-lap race. But since Griffin was going for the single best lap, i understand his choice. I'll still stick with the T5.

With T8's alone, i could drop seconds off my lap times.

Im not sure what u mean about my settings (im a GTP n00b) but my gear ratio was on 33 and my HP was some were around 1,010. I didnt save so I dont have the exact HP. Other than what my last post said i didnt mess with anything else.

And you had enough control to knock five seconds off my time. Hmmmm.
YOu must be a gifted noob.
I take it you don't do much tuning. Son, you are in the right place.
I've been under the weather and I haven't been playing. I'm going to get back on this one as soon as I'm up to it.
What every Saleen runs I'll expect to run about 1.5 seconds slower. It has always been thus.

Thanks for the complemente. The reason I dont do more tuning than what i listed here is because I don't know much about cars so im affraid I will mess it up more than help it lol.

As far as suspension tuning you can get back all your original settings except for the Downforce by going in to "Change Parts" and "click" on the button and it will set you back to where you started.
Your other option, which will just burn up space on your mem card is to "save setting" before you ever change your settings.
Now a couple of us "Type A" personality racers keep a log (I've got two) of what works for us.

A log is a good idea but im way too damn lazy for something like that lol. BTW what is a "type A" personality?

Let's just say the "A" stands for "anal retentive" sort of like "joe" on "Wings".

my bud has a 3000gt in real life. its pretty cool, its not a VR4, but it does have 222 hp and 275/45/17 tires, so it handles great.

oh yeha, i got a dodge stealth R/T with electronically adjustable suspension. so it handles like its on rails. once i get my 275/45/17's.. ooooh man, watch out WRX's.

and as for the game, i hate driving the 3000's, way to sluggish and non realistic.

1'15.104 is all what i got out of it..

I really had to dig for it.
Best lap: 1'08.162

That's with everything including the super-soft tires, default settings other than auto-gear at 37 and brake bias 24 front/19 rear. Has something like 1100 hp now that it's broken in. Damn fast car! There's something really really cool about these cars despite their resemblance to winged barges.

How did you manage that? On default settings no less. The car's got a handling problem because of its weight. I managed to push my time down to 1'07.362, but that's about the extent of it.
