in the land of stupidity
I'v have sent an email to a mod, asking if it is appropriate to make this thread and post pictures of a girl's misfortune. I got no answer, so I'm going to make the thread anyway. If it gets removed, so be it!

This thread doesn't need much introduction. It will speak for itself.

The photos are hard to watch if you're weak hearted!

Jacqueline and her Father, 1998.

Jacqueline on Vacation in Venezuela.

Birthday party.

At a party with friends.

Jacqueline's car. Her car was hit by another car which was driven by a 17-year old male student on his way home and driving while he was drunk after a party with his friends. This was in December 1999.

After the accident and 40 operations.

Jacqueline was on fire for about 45 seconds.

Jacqueline and her father in 2000.

Getting treatment.

Three months after the accident.

With no left eyelid Jacqueline needs eye drops to keep her vision.

Now 20 years old, he cannot forgive himself for driving drunk on that night three years ago and ruining Jacqueline's life.

This picture was taken 4 years after the accident. 60% of her body was severly burned.

This was an email send to me by a friend. The message was to send this email to as many people as possible.

Shocking.
I don't think i would be happy to be alive with that much damage to my body.
(you don't know that really until it happens to you)

And yet again the drunk driver escaped relatively unharmed.

edit: in that last picture, did they remove the left eye?

poor girl. I will never, EVER drive drunk.

Saw this a couple of years ago, it is really horrible and i hope shes getting better.

Drunk drivers should get much higher sentances regardless of whether they are in a crash or not...

I wouldn't be happy to be alive if I was the drunk driver, either. :/

👍 Absolutely. If people regularly drive drunk, they will crash at some point. People should fear driving drunk as they would fear waving a gun around in public (crap example but hopefully you get the point.)

I think when taking driving tests instructors should spend more time showing students the effects of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Maybe then less people wont have to learn the hard way and innocent people wont get hurt...

:(

That is really sad, I feel sorry for her..... that dumb drunk driver, I do hope he does remember what he did to her. Should be a lesson to everyone who drink and drive. Good thing I don't drink though, but if I street race, it is just as bad is drunk driving!!!! :scared: Okay, maybe we all should just take this as an example and don't drive recklessly.... :indiff:

Is that a Citroen 2CV she was driving? Please note that in this car, whatever accident you are involved with, your changes of survival are severely reduced. So apart from drunk driving, another lesson may be to invest in safety when purchasing a car.

:(

Do you "street race"? That is a) so 2001, and b) hahahaha.

Ouch, a 2CV? That can't be good..... :ouch:
Lol, I was really just making a reference. Besides, I said if, which is a probability that I may street race and cause of accident in the near future, whether if its real or not. :sly:

I saw this in a magazine a couple of years back and there was mention of a treatment to reconstruct her face etc.

Obviously this isnt happening...:(

Ah yes. I remember this girl and her story from a while back. She even had a commercial against drunk driving. It's sad to see something like this happen to someone. Drunk driving is something I hate the most.

Maybe someone from Scandinavia can chime in, but I believe in Sweden it is automatic license suspension for life if you are caught drinking and driving. No excuses. You'll never be behind the wheel again.

That is so terrible, I remember hearing about this, we had the drummer from Crash Test Dummys come to our school to talk about drugs and other stuff. He had a long talk about this poor girl and how a drunk driver ruined her life. I dont want to go into the exact details of what happened to her but it is one of the saddest things ever.

Drunk driving is so stupid I dont understand how people can do something that is so stupid and there is no other word for it. How can someone who kills someone else in a car accident while driving drunk get less than someone who shoots/stabs/whatever someone and they die? A life is still lost, I don't see how drunk drivers who kill get off easier for killing someone, or driving drunk anyways.

Same story pops up every year across the net, but the guy's age stays the same everytime. That's the oldest looking 20 year old ever.

I've heard of this before too. A few years ago.

When I heard if it - it was on telly - one of the firemen said it (the car)/she was on fire for a lot more than 45 secs.

When they arrived, they were met by a car on fire and a woman trapped. They tried to get her out, but were unable to. A couple of minutes later they had the flames out and the heat gone, and were prepared for a body recovery. Then they heard a moan and saw some movement... They were amazed anything could have survived the fire.

That's what I remember anyway. Could be a different story?

I dont understand the ''will to live'' of such people, I mean life (or what is left of it) isnt worth enough to take such a stroke of fate and still live with it.

Thats just beyond my understanding .

That may sound harsh but if that would happen to me - I would end my existence. I mean, whats death compared to a life like that?

It's not like she is brain dead, paralyzed, blind or mentally incapacitated in some way - I'd say her quality of life was far better than you seem to think, despite her impairments. I can't understand people who think that she is as badly off as the two people who died in the same accident... I reckon if you asked her whether she'd rather be dead or disfigured and alive, the answer would be fairly unequivocal. I'd go as far to say that she would probably be pretty offended by the suggestion that severe disfigurement is reason enough to warrant losing the will to live - indeed, her actions and behaviour since the accident (notably her prominent role in publicizing the drink-driving issue) demonstrates firmly that her disfigurement needn't be the be-all and end-all for her...

Plenty of people feel sorry for her - but that's no reason why she needs to feel sorry for herself, which she clearly doesn't.

Drunk driving is wrong..and bad, there should be a new stronger word for drunk driving...like badwrong, or badong. Yes, drunk driving is badong! From this moment on, I will stand for the opposite of drunk driving: gnodab! :dunce:
