Came to the RBR TT with some doubt as to how will I enjoy the driving here & how will I fare.....

So drove the 458 Italia GR3 which @Tidgney used in his lap guide for this TT. I kept getting PBs every other lap or so. I managed after a handful of laps a best time of 1:30:763 which is in Gold category for now. I just tried the Italia Gr3 car.

This TT as a whole is good but what makes it amazing or real fun are 2 factors:

- The RM tyres seal the deal here. Imo, RM are the best tyres in the game. The grip they offered my Italia car was astounding. Never once did I go over the kerbs to get a off-track violation because of the amazing turn in with the car. There's nothing more satisfying in a TT than RM tyres as the grip is all that's needed to build confidence & speed.

- The kerbs here especially the Red'n'White ones make the TT forgiving. Because of these, it's quite a thrill to maximise a turn or even go wide while entering/exiting a turn. So many times I could just let 1 tyre remain on these kind of kerbs especially the last right hander onto the main straight.

Will try other cars to see if I can lower my PB. But this TT has surprised me to say the least.

Can someone explain me the meta gr.3 cars please? I assume those are the fastest for an event but how you guys find out? Or is it simply a known fact?
You look at the leaderboard and look for what cars post the fastest times.

How the leaders find out which car is fastest I don't know. But I assume that their driving is so precise and consistent, that they can actually tell after a few laps.

Personally I couldn't because I am way too inconsistent and would have no idea if a faster/slower time was due to the car or due to me being better/worse this lap.

The Red Bull Ring TT is one of the few where many different cars are in the top 100. Although the Lancer seems to be a slight favorite among the top drivers.

Usually one car is clearly the fastest and all the top drivers choose it and then the top 100 is full of it.

Thank you very much for this 👍 I'll pick a ride that I like and most of the time it's something completely different than alienterritory 😂

That's not going to help his mood! :mischievous:
I guess you are right. But I mean the idea why I posted that comment was to actually contribute to improvement, even if @NAXEHT is pretty much alwasy way better placed than me, IMHO if he just shared the lap before the end of time, I would have posted same comment then, and then he maybe could have gotten that tenth or two.

Oh man I feel your pain...
With those times of s1 and S2 you should have ended somewhere between P10 to p15
You didn't need to lift of so early in penultimate corner but go deeper in , brake later mid corner, position car a car and a half width from the Apex so you could then turn and floor it there to the right and carry speed into last left turn.... But yeah, too late now .... Compared to my sector times you should be at least a tenth to tenth and a half in front of me..

And totally agree that PD lack of fantasy for time of the day too (and car track combo as we see now).
Last corner was hideous..... my 1+2 split was .894 on my PB lap 😂 😂

I haven't even driven 1 lap so just being humble as of now. I never enjoyed this track much even in the F1 games that I play. Watching the Grand Prix here is a different story though.

As @Tidgney did, I'll use the Ferrari Gr3 car because the rear mounted engine will help in keeping the rear stable.
The 458 rear is stable on exit but it's a tricky car to drive hard as it hates kerbs. The Supra or the beetle is far more stable but the 458 really dances in your hands, I'd love to own one IRL, it's the only Ferrari I really lust for.

The Italia suits my driving style. I tried the Lancer & the RcF cars but the Italia's control is far superior including grip.

Had a blast around the RBR last night trying out a few cars, I tried the BRZ but sadly that lacked the ooomph, tried the Lambo but it tried to kill me, tried the Lancer and could see why it's been favoured, has such straight line speed but then tried the GTR which was competitive and soon into gold. Finally, for now, I tried the wonderful BMW M6 and in one lap improved my time. Lots of testing to do, methink,s but I really like how this TT, the recent Tokyo event and LeMans at least have more viable options to play with.

Hi Neville, the Ferrari F40 just called and said it's coming to hunt you down.

😂
What do you do with an F40 though? Drive it too much and it costs you bazillions in depreciation, so you can't even hustle it through fear of binning it. A 458 though, you could do a track day for example.

You get it race tuned and track day the life out of it, a friend of mine had a full race spec black one that he took all over the UK, obviously he had more money than sense, but he did manage only to suffer minor accidents and went on to sell it for a cool packet years later

If you bought one at launch, you'd make up to a million on it today

I do like the 458 though

I know. You’re right. Thanks, man. I probably should’ve done that but my modus operandi is always doing them with one or two days left, hard to break that routine. :D

The best part about a Red Bull TT is that if you nail T1 and T2 you should be good. If not, start over.

In many of the trials the tough parts are near the end and wrecking a good time on the last turn or two can be frustrating.

If I may, and I’m not fast at all, but turn 1 and 3(2) are really comfortable with a little practice and understanding what’s going on.

You have to brake it in to phases, the exit is always the decider if it’s a really really fast lap but for most of us that doesn’t matter.

Brake for T1 with the ghost or earlier but lift off IN 3rd, clip the inside and dab the throttle to load the car up, ride the smooth or the bounce.

T2 is way easier, brake hard lift off and just wait until you are straight.

The next 2 corners are a bit meh as they require some brake dragging (that’s not trail braking) and a lot of coasting which for all of us is hard to do.

But it’s the Redbull ring I shouldn’t be be preaching to the .001% fastest people on the planet.

Apologies.

I understand. However, in the real world turn 2 is the left kink on the straight leading to the elevated right hander which is turn 3.

Thanks for your input. Could you please explain loading up the car, riding the smooth or the bounce and brake dragging? I have no idea what those terms mean. (Non native speaker and not a massive petrol head)

Good question actually.

The more you have the car/transmission under drive (throttle and brake or pumping the throttle)

So with t1 at Redbull you want to brake and turn in but add a little drive/throttle and depending on how the exit is you give it the beans or you wait.

It’s about managing where the straight line is and the torque.

Edit:

I’ll drag out a Gr3 clip but in Gr4 it’s the same just a little slower.

Wife in the shower means "beep"...
A quick first few laps into the AMG challenge at Monza, it's quite ok to drive except for the exit of T1 Retiffilo ...2nd gear seems boggy and first gear hits the limiter immediately, but very grippy Merc'y
Only a handfull of corners with that satisfying feeling when you nail it, but Ascari is at the top of that list 😁🤣

Definitely doing some sessions over the month I think!

After seeing multiple people rave about the Supra at RBR, I decided to try it. At first it wasn't any special but I managed to undercut my 911 time by a single tenth:

IMG_1244.jpeg

Since then I tried to find the silver bullet (as in several other cars) to gain those last few tenth to reach gold but it seems that I have to bite this bullet. In any car I tried I could reach 1:31.9 or a very low 1:32 but can't even get close to my PB, not even in the Supra. It is what it is, I super happy that I can silver more or less with normal effort. Coming from barely reaching bronze this is a big accomplishment for me.

Speaking of attaining silver, I also tried the AMG/Monza TT. Gold isn't far, yet so far away:

I saw in-game that there's an ACC part of this competition on the PS5, as well. I loaded up ACC but didn't find it. Nevertheless, I created a practice session with the '20 AMG. Oh boy, I couldn't even put together a valid lap...
