Seems this one hasn't quite been answered yet.. the only thing people are saying about Arcade mode is how it doesn't have garage cars...

So has PD gone back to the old style of Time Trial? Pre-GT3, when Time Trial was any car, any track, unlimited laps? (what later became "Free Run" in GT3, when Time Trial was revamped)

I ask because there's no "Free Run" option anymore, I'm curious as to whether that's what Time Trial is, like the old GT's.

Yes...in the last demo "time trial" was a freerun, unlimited laps. I can't why it would change in the actual release.

Yeah, there's a "Free Run" option in Sim mode now. Costs a few credits to get in, though.. 500 in the Japanese version, which would equate to a whopping five credits in the U.S. version. That's precisely why I don't really care about the lack of a garage in Arcade.. the only thing I ever do with my cars in Arcade anymore is Free Run.

Yeah if you want to do free run with your tuned car, you just pop over to one of the track location thingys and pay them a small fee.

Roger that. 👍

That's the only reason I bothered forcing my F1 car and Escudo around the single races. Free runs and machine testing.

In this 'free run' mode though, can you choose all the tracks. See all I do with GT3 nowerdays is test with mu tuned cars on all the tracks so is this possible with GT4.

It's OK to pay the fee, since it will be "more" realistic. Moreover, I think it would be much "more" realistic if there is other cars as well on track, just like real track days. But then again, just like real track days, be prepared to get annoyed if there is some slow machines in front of you on the track. Haha.

Actually, there is a mode like that in Sim mode. You and five other cars on a Free Run. You start off spaced evenly around the track. I wouldn't mind doing that on the 'Ring.. it'd be like the public days, just fewer cars. :)

Fantastic! :)

A question about time trial !!!

is there a best lap records screen where you can choose and delete the lap times you don't want to see anymore ? like in Gran Turismo Concept ???
If yes how many best laps does the game keep ? only 10 like in GTP or more ?

Because what I love best in this game is test "all" the cars in time trial and try to make the best laps with them then compare between cars of the same range.
10% of the final decision of my real car was based on GTconcept actually lol no kidding

That's why I keep plaiyng GTconcept until i can get GT4 :/
I'm only interested in pure driving and hope I will be able to know the nürb track a bit more like this before returning to it in real-life.

edit:
if there's already a thread talking about it please direct me to hit
I couldn't find any infos when searching or ended up with 16pages threads :/

On that topic, why must you mix your units?

"My real car : FWD Ford Focus RS 215hp 310Nm", you say.

Well, 1 horsepower is defined as 550lbft/s, so your torque units ought to be in lbft, not Nm. In fact, even if you used 1 PS instead of 1hp, you should use kgm, not Nm, as 1 PS is defined as 75kgm/s.

So, it's 215hp/228lbft or 218PS/31kgm

hmm thx lol actually what they say in Switzerland is 215cv
and I don't exactly know what all those ps,bhp,hp are ;)

thx for the conversion tough it will be helpful in other forums :) and I will correct it !

dyno gave me 235hp but I don't have the torque curve sadly I only had a horsepower curve on the dyno (don't ask why...)

anyway anyone know if you can erase best lap times in the "time-trial" mode ?
It sucks if you can't because when you try 600hp cars you regulars street cars times will most likely disappear...

:D

1PS (Pferdenstarke) = 1CV (Cheval Vapeur) = 0.986hp
10Nm = 1kgm = 7.231 lbft.

if you have a hp vs rpm curve, you can do some math to get torque vs rpm curve:

hp = (Torque * rpm)/5252.

so;

Torque = (hp*5252)/rpm.

Do a little work in excel, or even by hand and now you have a torque curve.

(torque in ft-lbs)
