So been practicing for last hour with gr4 cars on the nurburg go circuit.

It not doing great, 2:07 lap times right now.

What I have found most annoying is that I can do some really smooth and consistent laps in the corvette or Citroen GT but then I though I would try the Megan which i hate driving and I do a real scruffy lap understeering everywhere and it's over 1second quicker.

Is the megan just that much better? Any hint or tips to improve? Only aid I use is abs default and all laps I do are within a second of each other.

Thanks

If you havent done so already use the Circuit Experience in driver training or whatever it's called to get gold on all sections of the track then the whole lap itself. Plus make sure you watch the videos before you race yourself as there are plenty of ways you can gain seconds there.

Yes. The Megane is that much better :(

Maybe watch some replays in the discovery section? Or watch your own replays back? What lap times are you aiming for?

And don't be scared of using a touch of TC if required. You can always turn it off again!

All kinds of threads on here about the Megane since 1.06. Even sloppy driving is faster because of the unrealistic straight line speed.

Some guy set a high 2:03 in a corvette today and was on the top 10 leader board. He probably did it for fun and would have beaten himself in a megane.
I managed a 2:05something in my viper, all but a couple of races I was just up against meganes. My race laps were in 2:07 though, the odd 2:06.
So 2:07 is OK for non megane in my book.

I refuse to buy a megane, I wouldn't race with one even if I was gifted it, but I'm using a wheel, so I want the driving to be fun. If I hadn't grown attached to my viper I would start getting used to the corvette.

Same with my GR3 991, I love it, but the mustang GR3 is faster around the ring. Still I drive the 991.

I would strongly suggest not to turn the cones on! If they are on, some knob will knock them onto the track and at some point you will run over one and get flung off the track.
Also, if you are relying on the cones, what happens when they aren't there because someone has knocked them off.

I'm down to 2:06 now with the Hyundai Genesis of all cars. Absolutely hate the Megane and won't use it. Annoying the game just crashed as I was about to race as just been qualifying in different cars all day to try them out. I'm at the point now where I don't think I can go much faster tho.

2:07 is about average for most drivers with Gr4 on Nurb GP. I wouldn't worry about it.

PS- Shows just how unbalanced the Megane is in this video

There is a mid 2:02 with the corvette in a faster region.. with a DS4

Ah that's probably the guy I was thinking of (I'm in Europe too)

I'm convinced that DS4 is quicker than using a wheel.

oh lol, not that guy then
OK I will be more vague in future as I'm not at my PS4 to fact check before posting lol

There's a 2'02.9 Vette time on the Euro leaderboards.

I only ran 20 mins, and got a mid 2'03 in the Vette, but there's little point in racing as you can't use the RWD advantage unless you're at the front... the FWD stuff just holds you up mid corner, and then blasts away.

Big update due tonight/ tomorrow morning. Here's hoping it nerfs the FF Gr.4 cars

It's easier to apply full lock with the ds4 that's for sure but I way prefer my wheel. I might try the ds4 later and see if it's any quicker!

I have chosen the Genesis duo as my go-to Gr.3/4 cars. I have not tried all the cars in the game (which may be a big mistake in itself) but I have driven most of the FR cars and the Genesis' handle great and they have strong speed down the straights. Maybe not the fastest cars in the strictest sense, but I find them easier to drive fast than the Corvettes. And this is despite the fact that I own a Corvette... I love Corvettes.

I wouldn't put much stock in an odd person putting up a very quick time in an unusual car, as there has been some suspicious times about this last week, even from people driving the Megane, like there could possibly be a glitch/exploit.

Of course it's possible they are legit too, just don't take them as 100% fact or think they are achievable for more than the very top guys.

Sorry for the offtopic but have any of you raced the Atenza at Lago Maggiore II ?? Have you seen the replays of the top 10 guys, I've watched 5 out of 10 and every single one of them goes off track like crazy and yet managed to hit 2.03.XXX or 2.04.XXX - they should have at least 4-5 seconds penalties for this type of racing....I tried hotlapping for a few hours to set a good qualifying time but whatever I do I can't go under 2.06.8XX, according to the menu my optimal would have been 2.05.8XX but I don't know how's that even possible. This is the first time after ~210 hours of racing on GTS when I'm really without any idea how is it even possible to score 2.03 with this **** of a car and this track .... What's your time?

I understand that the balance of performance (BOP) system gives FF cars a boost in straight line speed to make up for their slight lack of cornering ability. Sometimes this speed boost is more than required to balance the performance relative to other cars. So yes the Megane and maybe other FF cars presently have an advantage when BOP is employed.
Tips: watch this video and others like it
Learn the physics of racing including traction circles, over/understeer, early/late apex, car tuning, etc.
Learn the racing line for each track, and learn it well. Also learn which sections are best for passing (that means NOT all areas of every track are suitable for clean passing)
Practice... some will simply say "git gud" LOL
