Why do so many of the Seasonal events have tire restrictions? Does GT5 have something against racing on racing tires? There's nothing worse than driving a Lamborghini with sports hard tires on, it's like driving on a skating rink. Do they think I'm going to become a better driver dealing with these unrealistic conditions?

Unrealistic conditions? Road cars on road tyres is unrealistic now?

The seasonal events have Skid Recovery Force - how are you complaining about a lack of grip when physics are literally bending to keep you on the road.

Do you think driving a Honda Integra on tires with an ludicrous amount of grip (Racing Softs) is realistic?

Didn't think so.

Then don't do them!

Lol! I can quickly see I'm going to get mashed up by the purists. Ok, I get it, but my point is rather in some cases I think they could go a notch higher on the tire restrictions. In real life no guy (or gal) is realistically going to take the trouble to tune their car to the limit and then go out to the track to race on his or her Walmart or Canadian Tire all season specials (comfort). Those people usually have two sets of rubber, one for street and one for track days. Even on my own car (only street use - no track or racing) I've only done two tunes for maximum performance enhancement vs. cost, stage one ECU and Max Performance summer tires.

It's a racing game (they say "real driving simulator," but come on, it's a racing game) and racing series' have tire restrictions. Learn to drive fast on the required tires, or better yet, learn to drive fast on tires with lower grip levels than the required tires.

Try a Veyron on Comfort Medium tires and then on the default Sports Hard tires (which some have said provide more grip in a skid-pad scenario than those actually equipped on the car) and watch your lap times tumble.

Perhaps my wording got me misunderstood. I'm not whining because I can't beat the races, in fact I've got golds in every single Seasonal event there is so I have learned to race and tune accordingly on lower level tires under all circumstances with any car. Rather, I feel with higher powered cars on lower level tires so much of the car's potential is wasted - power, suspension, etc., when you're constantly feathering the throttle, brake, and steering just to stay on the track pointing forward. Maybe an easy option for GT7 would be to make the same race available with say 3 different tire restrictions, ie: one race, once with comfort, once with sports, once with racing and you have to do all 3 to gold the event. That would be more fun and challenging and the need for speed and really pushing the car to it's limit would be satisfied on the racing tire event.

I've driven my car on both dry and wet track with Dunlop Direzza Z1(Extreme Summer Performance) tires before, and I can say it's grip level is approximately between Comfort Soft & Sports Hard.

The FRS, 86, BRZ uses Michelin Primacy HP(Grand Touring Summers). For the GT5 competition in Japan using these cars, they used the Comfort Hards to replicate the level of grip available.

So for the majority of summer tires available on the market at the moment, Comfort Hards to Sport Hards can mostly replicate the level of grip.

That's an interesting and curious comparison Supermelon. So are you saying you have an FRS, 86, BRZ in real life and are comparing real life track driving with the same car in the game on various tires and finding that Extreme Performance Summer tires in real life are only comparable to comfort soft or sports hard tires in the game? It seems a little low to me as I would have thought since Extreme Performance Summer tires in real life are as good as you can get without getting into Track and Competition DOT tires it would be comparable to sports soft in the game and the Track and Competition DOT tires in real life would equate to racing tires in the game.

The spirit of the Sport Hard, Medium, and Soft is those high-end road radials, but the grip modelling is anything but. As I mentioned using far fewer words in an earlier post, skid pad analysis and testing of the Veyron showed that Comfort Soft are closer to what the stock Michelins offer up in terms of grip. They may cost $18,000 a set but that price is for the ability to withstand the heat and rotational forces that driving at those speeds in such a heavy car can produce, the grip is secondary. I hope I'm not speaking out of turn or attributing this information to someone other than who provided it, but I believe that Famine was the one who stated this.

I know a few people that do. They auto cross and race on tracks with racing tires quite a bit actually. I am looking at getting a set of DOT legal racing slicks for my WRX as well. The more grip I can have when racing the better.

Not entirely. Increased grip puts increased stress on chassis components and can result in binding and other issues. Not only that, but you may actually end up being slower than with a higher grade road tire because the chassis might not be able to support excess grip and you'll simply understeer.

Actually the tire compounds in Gran Turismo are a bit unrealistic. Sports Hard is actually very good tires, Sports Medium would barely be road legal and Sports Soft is real R Tires. The Racing tires in GT is off the chart in amount of grip, maybe Racing Hard can match a soft F1 tyre in grip.
