I did some searching, but I didn't find the answer I'm looking for. What I wanted to know is, once your tires turn red when wear is on in a race, such as an enduro, do they keep losing grip while they are in red, or do the reach a point where they are going to be as bad as they get, and their performance stops dropping off and levels out? Or do they keep degrading?
Also, my friend was telling me that after a while the tire wear meter will turn black after being red for a while, is this true? Thanks :)

I think that they bottom out after a lap or two of being red, and don't get worse. I don't know for sure, because I can't stand to to drive on red tires for more than half a lap.

I also agree that there is no black that I know of.

Ok cool, thanks guys. I was just wondering this because on the enduro at the Test Course I never change tires, and they're beat red at the end of the race, and I didn't notice any degradation after they turned red, but I just wanted to see what others thought :)

Yeah, once they're red, that's about it. It's pretty easy to make it by on the test course, though, so I can see how it would be hard to tell. If you must know, however, in Gran Turismo 2, they did turn black, and that was something you really did not want to do.

Aha! Ok so that's why my friend thought that, he had played GT2 a lot before I got GT3.
I didn't have a PSX, so what happened when they turned black? What did they perform like, etc...?

I've actually tried this out before and there was definate continuous degredation of the tires to the point where you can't even keep the car on the road anymore. A very hard pulling in one direction or the other.
But I think that it stops at that point, but the car is so undriveable at that point there would be no sense in having it degrade even further.

And I have never seen the tire meter turn black.

Yeah, I guess it's just because the track I don't change tires on is the Test Course, it's not going to really hurt me that much, just a little sliding... :O

Hmm, well, I can't remember much, it's been awhile since I've played gt2, and never got black tires much. But I think it was the equivalent of having a flat, or maybe not even having one. It just...wasn't good.
