I am getting real tired of clusters of threads devoted to how crappy gt5 AI is because john or jane doe thinks that the AI sucks. Has anybody watched the GT5 vs F4 AI video on youtube? worth a watch. The f4 AI can't even make it around a parked car

Most people just think the AI suck because they are running racing tires AND just barely squeaking their car in the HP or performance point category.

If you want real good AI racing in GT5 do the seasonal events and USE A CAR that is in the PP CATEGORY with the SAME TIRES as what it says the AI is using. Not some RACE SOFT wearing DETUNED race car or FULLY TUNED-DE-TUNED street car with suspensions, forced induction upgrades, engine builds etc. etc. It'll be some fun racing. and while you are at it when you finally get a chance to pass the AI rough a few up a lil bit and just see if they don't return the favor!!!! I have had the AI come up the inside in a corner and literally gas it and turn right into my quarter panel and pit maneuver me out of the corner after I had roughed him up pretty hard previous laps back.

They very simply tell you how to be competitive for racing "competitors will be on sports hard tires and tuned between 2xx-3xxx performance points" and PD/GT5 ALLOWS you to CHEAT and use race tires and substantially more PP or HP than them. They had to do this otherwise this "gaming console based simulator" would be WAY too hard for your average person or kids to get through this. It's either cheat and pass every AI on the first lap or run what they run and be competitive.

And one could forget about the AI altogether and try out some online shuffle racing as well for some real competitive racing running realistic tires and cars and racing real people.

One thing I think we could really use is more time trials with LOCKED tuning like the sls amg at top gear test track. Right now I they feel like they are expert tuning challenges. Taking a car and adding a pile of weight, dropping horsepower taking out aero is pretty funny.

LASTLY I've heard people saying that Kaz is just trying to make this game "wheel only" as if it's some conspired evil plot on you. No he made a "Gaming Console Based Racing Simulator" that allowed people to buy it and play it with a controller if they choose to, BUT it's just a Diamond in the rough when used with a controller and the true clarity of it comes out with the WHEEL. And good wheels are not crazy high priced anymore I just looked on ebay and the first page of g27's has several buy it nows under $260 BRAND NEW IN BOX from reputable sellers. yeah it's still a chunk of money trust me I know I have been in real bad times, but nonetheless a wheel really makes GT5 come to life.

You can say what you like, GT5 AI still sucks. I have done plenty of races in exactly the same car on the same tyres as the AI and won easily. Most people will tell you to get a competitive race you need to downtune your cars.

GT5 AI is very poor, simple as that.

Most people I've talked to think the AI sucks because beating the AI with a completely uncompetitive and slow car is usually very easy.

You do not understand what cheating is.

Bought a stock gt500 car and took straight to the seasonal and blew away the AI in just 2 laps. No oil change or and no add-ons, weight reduction etc.

Yes, people whip up on the AI because they use over-powered cars. This isn't new at all.

Thing is, the A.I. is still garbage. So until it isn't, you will keep hearing complaints.
I take a NASCAR into the NASCAR championship and wreck the AI on every track except Daytona. They corner far too slow; braking too early and getting on the gas too late. They've been like this for the entire series and it is annoying.

Even if I have a max level B-spec driver and pound "pace up" the entire race, I'll be able to crush his best laptime. I even did it with the X2010 and X2011 both of which I wouldn't even label my driving as "ability" or "skill."

Comparisons to Forza? Yeah, so you've seen that video where they park in the middle of a corner and the A.I. tries to go around. Well, that's kind of a useless video anyway, being parked in a corner isn't really part of proper racing. lol

To actually compare them, the A.I. in Forza is quicker, but rarely by any amount of skill. They rubberband and catch up all the time, gaining huge gaps on you while you're laying down times that would be impressive in the real world. They also ram you and bump you constantly, regardless of how much room you give them or what lines you take.

Even still, the A.I. in Forza is slow. If I'm behind them, I can simply rake late at one corner and overtake 3 - 5 cars. But if they're behind you in the same corner, they'll probably bump you, at the very least, they'll ride closer to you than a Virginia driver down a back road. (and that's close, I live there. lol)
Ovals? Ha! Never even had them close at an oval except when I took cars at the bottom of their class.

To sum it up, both games have terrible AI. Don't expect the complaints to end anytime soon.

That's kind of why I said one could forget about the AI altogether and race some real people online since the AI doesn't give them a challenge.

And to everyone else I never said that when you fit in the category better that they are unbeatable, just that it makes it more of a challenge. max tune you will kill them in a lap. like dixonbaps said he used a stock car and it took him 2 laps to beat them. I can do the same thing as well, but there is just only so much we can expect from AI.

If we want AI that is like racing real drivers then I think we are asking for too much from the current consoles to handle that. The PS3 is being pushed hard for sure. The AI complaint should be switched to why doesn't my PS3 have enough processor speed to handle having better AI. With better consoles better artificial intelligence drivers will come but it's just that ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

And with ALL posts on forums it is up for discussion and JUST MY OPINION on the subject. I don't care if 100 people agree or if 500 disagree doesn't change my opinion as well as this won't change your opinion if you disagree with what I have said.

The best A.I. I've seen so far is on Codemaster's F1 games and in PC racing sims I've played, which are GTR2 and GTR Legends, and Rfactor. For me those blow GT's and Forza's A.I..

At least the AI doesn't cry on and on for hours when you cut off their inside line. I can only take so much from real people.

hahahaha True on that. but if you find some good drivers to run with and you take their inside line legitimately then there should be no complaint. Good drivers exist out there.

I'm just sick of all the GT5 complaining period. It's your choice to play it, so if you don't like it you don't have to.

Tired of hearing or tired of reading???? because if you are tired of reading you do have the option of not reading the complains - unless someone is forcing you to read them... and if you are tired of hearing then put some headphones with some music on and problem solved...

I use Shift 2 for a good race against the AI. Not the best game to quote I know but the AI on the shift games (once you can get some decent tuning done to your ride) is way ahead of GT5. I think that the problem with GT5's AI is that its way too slow and careful. I'm not one for online racing either as i've heard too many horror stories and don't wish to join a racing club or whatever just for a few good races. PD gave us the ability to vamp up the AI in GT5's arcade mode but without the ability to choose your opponents it's a little pointless IMO.

I think the best GT5 can offer in the AI department is in the FGT races. Anything else is just pointless time trails with the AI there just for a bit of traffic on the tracks.

hahaha Splitting hairs

I fully agree with this one too! unless you're underage then 👍

Yeah fully agree also... unless you work for a living and bought a FAT PS3 (on porpuse for GT) a Wheel and GT5 to play it and got a less enjoyable game than GT3 or GT4 used to be... but I guess if your parents gave you all of the above and if you dont like it just return it and ask for a 360...

The lack of aggressiveness of the AI is their Achille's Heel. That, and the fact that if you approach their outside in a turn, they will immediately slow down and let you pass.

Tuning down cars to make it competetive can be fun for awhile, but in most cases, I just whip A-spec for the game progress and do my "Humility" racing online. Of course, I am referring to my humility from losing alot. Occasionally, I'll mess around with Seasonals and see "how low I can go" and still win. ;)

Did the new AI difficulty sliders add anything? I know they are not available for A-spec, but I haven't had a chance to try them in Arcade Mode yet.

In arcade mode and with AI agression turned to 10 they dont do that anymore (and they didnt do it upon release) but in A-spec it is still a very stupid behavior... (approching from the outside in a turn and the AI backing off) no driver I know does that IRL and it totaly ruins the racing...

here is my take on it (coped from another post I made)

So I'v been doing some A-spec racing over the weekend and this is the conclusion I have come too.

I will use the supercar festival as an example.

take any car that is competative in the class, lets say 458 italia (stock)

if you choose SS tyres (same as the opostition) = easy
if you choose SM tyres = medium
if you choose SH tyres = hard

the way I see it tyre compound in GT is equal to a dificulty level in other games. so if you choose the same tyres its EASY. one compound down is MEDIUM. two compounds down HARD.

You will also find that that the AI fight you for position, even in the corners. the only time I found them backing off was when I gave them a good shunt from behind forcing them to brake and try and regain control.

below is a link to a google docs that show what tyres the AI use in each a-spec race

As I've stated so many times. The only issues with GT5's IA is that it's too slow. They're pretty smart, but they don't race. At least not with you. They race amongs each other.

I feel that the A.I is better than ever. Sure is not perfect, and it´s disturbingly slow, but go back to GT4 and you´ll see what I mean.

If you want real good AI racing in GT5 do the seasonal events and USE A CAR that is in the PP CATEGORY with the SAME TIRES as what it says the AI is using.

Yes, it's hard to catch 12 cars that are a minute ahead of you using a similar car but so what? How does that prove that the AI is good? Forget that, I wouldn't even call that racing, more like playing tag with cars.

The best time that I've had with the AI is in B-Spec (30+ lap races), and only with an AI that my driver was attempting to lap.

I'm still not quite sure what is going on here, except that the AI driver is really averse to being lapped and to such an extent, that his lap times improve greatly.

I think the GT1 AI was more of a challenge to be honest... the best AI I've raced in any racing game has to be the Toca series and F12010, even if it was arcadey.

You say that like it's a tiny issue. The core detail of any AI car is it's speed.

If you want to see good AI try some of the Simbin games on PC. Adjustable by percentage and very competitive.
