Tires, and how they factor in

I did a search and couldn't pull up this topic, but was wondering:

Has anyone seen what kind of tires are in the game. Throughout the series, FWD cars have really lacked, being able to only really break into the 12 to 13 second range, because of the ability to only use a Super soft tire, and not a drag radial, or full on mickey thompsons (or whatever brand suits you). This has led alot of the FWD cars to rely on throttle precision, or just leaving traction control at a low setting to even keep up at the beginning of a straightaway race.

Now I know, everyones going to say that 12's and 13's are all that a FWD civic is going to be capable of. But factor in the weight of a 350 hp civic, around 2400 lbs fully loaded for a hatchback. Thats dangerously low 10 Territory at high 120's, low 130's if you get decent traction...

So anyone know of any kind of deviation from the standard soft, super soft top side traction tires?

Not trying to argue but that theory is not accurate. Even with racing slicks and the best possible traction.... If it was 2400lbs and 350hp it would still run about 11.63 @ 115hp at the best time.
Definetly NOT "dangerous low 10 second category"

Errr, I'd say more like 11.64. ;)

We don't know a whole lot of anything concerning what's involved in GT4's tuning options. Just wait and see. There's probably a good chance of super-sticky drag tires considering the drag strip's presense.

Ohh, If they add a Top-Fuel in there...thad be so cool!
That wouldnt surprise me at all since there were "drag racing" cars in GT2 that came stock with over 1000 hp.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I find it very amusing why they call them "Funny Car"! And I really think they are when you see them run in real life. Running the drag strip with 8000 HP creates this vibration to anything on the ground that it ticked me when I was at the 16th Annual NHRA Career Day! :O:O:O

I watched a friends Civic Hatch with a B18C, turbo, decent build, dyno at 352 WHP and 312 WTQ. That very same day, he drove to Pacific raceways, ran a 11.24@ 119, and a 10.67 @ 126 mph. These times were both with 1.6 60ft's on Full drag slicks. My friends better than average, but not a perfect driver and I am sure a better driver would be able to hit 10.4 or below at over 130+ mph.

But they could just have traction control as a compensator for the lack of a sticky tire. Turning on traction control to 2 or 3, produces very little wheelspin, but also drags down times a whole lot more than it would be to putting a nice set of hooking slicks, with no traction control at all.

Personally it seemed to me that they compensated for lack of a true tire physic by just putting in some sets of tires, then topping it off with traction control in GT3. Being one to never play with traction control, I found it hard to launch 300+ horsepower FWD cars efficiently, as they spin at really any RPM above 3000 in the first three gears. I would like to see them add some kind of tire physics, that make people actually use the pressure sensitive buttons or gas pedals of their cars around corners to not enduce tire spin or spinouts alot easier.

If that dyno was at the rear wheels then that would be correct. When you stated 350HP it usually indicates the hp at the flywheel or engine. 350hp at the rear wheels would absolutely be a 10 second car if it was 2400lb. :)
Games usually list the HP at the engine. ;)

:) What about the front wheels though...!!!
Right right, excellent point. Yeah that too. 👍 Still different than the actual engine HP. It is always less once it goes thru the drivetrain. ;)

I would like to see the analog sticks used for the revving up at the start line possibly, it's pretty hard to hold a consistent rev with the X button.

Already there in GT2 and GT3 so im sure GT4 will have it. 👍

How do tires factor in GT4? Well, they will wear out. Then, you will need to replace them. You'll have different types of tires to purchase for your race team. During the race, you can install whatever tire you need to race on. How's that?
