DAMMIT.. Sorry for swearing, but I'm a tad frustrated right now.

I'm currently doing The "Gran Turismo All Stars" championship on Amateur (Yes I still suck. You're very clever, shut up and listen :D ) .. Main contenders : Me, in a very light 800Kg Gillet Vertigo racecar (the underpowered Batmobile), the Astra Touring Car, a Pennzoil Nismo GT-R and an MR2 something or other (quite fast)...

Now the thing that bugs me is.. I'm running a quite nimble and light little car (800Kg, 440bhp) the Astra is 470+Bhp and has to be a good deal heavier (can't find the numbers). Now the Pennzoil Nismo has to weigh AT LEAST 1100Kg and probably carry some 650+ Bhp.. Then why doesn't it go through tires like a shredder...

In SS Route 11 I'm running soft (not THE softest. Second softest) and driving the tits off the poor Gillet, and still loosing time. The Astra does the same to keep up, and it has to pit... (as I tried in my last race and made a 3rd place..)

Did I mention the Pennzoil Nismo DOESN'T pit ?....

What makes that Pennzoil Nismo so easy on the tires ? (And mighty fast at the same time ?)

Cheers

It never pits because it doesn't use its own brakes or steering , so it never wears out the tires. It uses everybody else for brakes and steering. Now, if there was a damage model, it'd be in the pits every lap getting sheetmetal cut off...
I found this series immensely frustrating.

T8s are Super Soft. That's the "every other lap" tire of choice. T2s are Super Slicks.

They are probably using harder tires that last longer. Plus there are more varianle that go into account like the cars set up and so on. Also your driving may have something to do with it. Try to conserve your tires. Go to the outside on the straight, brake in a straight line and head into the turn. You dont want to break while in the middle of the turn...

yep stick some harder tyres on the thing or if youre having to much trouble stick some more HP on it, that WILL fix it every time ;)

The penzoil always drives a very conservative race and that would contribute to less tyre wear.

AND would the GT-R's four wheel steering have anything to do with it.

Just a thought

yea there is always a car that doesnt use their tyres. i found that when i drove more off the track than on, my tires lasted longer.... just a suggestion.

or u cud jus get a F1 car and thrash them all.

Hey, welcome to GTP, Professional! If you need any help around here, just ask, we'll be glad to answer your questions.

:)

I use the Super Slicks, (t2s) because they can last for at least 10 laps. :) It's almost double for regular cars, but it's around 10 with F1 cars.

Aaaaarrrggghh... Managed 7 Golds, 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze with my Gillet.. All runs except SS Route 11 on Mediums. SS Route II done on Soft with a pitstop (the Bronze...)

DAMMIT... I need to do this one again :banghead: (Got the GT40 Road Car which is very nice though :trouble: )

I Hate the Friggin' Pennzoil Nismo piece of ****e

Ohh welll.. All in good time..

Cheers

I am, unfortunately, at work.. And I'm not allowed to bring the PS2 to work with me.. They say I don't get anything done here.. Morons :trouble:

But - I will try again when I get home.. And I WILL eat that Pennzoil junkmobile...

6:39 over here in Sydney. So, i guess you could taunt Sandstorm because he just lost his memory card save...got any plans to start again Sandstorm?

Hey, somewhere I gave bad information, because I only got 10 laps out of T3s I think. I got 15 laps out of T2s at GV and they had plenty o' life left.

Flerbizky, as others have suggested, staying out of the pits as much as possible is your best bet. For a good example of this check out my description of the Vitz pro series. lap by lap they creamed me but I swept the series with ease just by staying out of the pits. Each pit stop costs a minimum of 15 seconds so the law of diminishing returns hits you quickly. If you have to pit every 5 laps instead of every 10, that means you have to be a minimum of 3 seconds faster per lap just to break even. And one error on cooked tires can wipe out that benefit pretty easily.

I run the softest tires I can that will last the whole race without pitting. For 5 lappers that's usually T4s, and 10 lappers get T3s. Most cars will get 15 laps on T2s. If it's a 20 lap race and I'm going to have to pit once no matter what, I will go to T3s or sometimes T4s if they will last to the halfway point without being red. For longer races than that I go back to T2s to minimize my pit stops.

huh i thought the slickest (is that even a word?) tyres were t1's and anyway you cant change tyres on a f1, or wheels, or mod it in any way for that matter(apart from oil change)

I haven't used anything but the racing tires since about the first 5% of the game so I'm not sure what T1s are. Are those the "Sport" tires? If so, I don't believe they have as much grip or as much life as T2 Super Slicks do.

I don't own any F1s but I believe you are stuck with T5s on them.

Just did it with my Penzoil Skyline(tuned).... pretty easy but... I was second at route 11... and why?-> all because of the tyres...I just couldn't pit because a freakin mazda rx7 lm
wouldn't pit!
conclusion for me: its all about tyres! get hard or superhard tyres and it couldn't be a problem ( still have to be a good driver :-))

I did pretty much everything on Super Slicks. The trick is to bed the car in nicely in the first lap, then start going flat out. This will stop you from over-driving, which almost immediately kills tyres.
