TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has sent a revised TMG EV P002 to Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to defend its electric title.

Based on data gained from last year’s record-breaking run of 10mins 15.380secs, engineers at TMG’s electric vehicle technology centre have generated more performance from the TMG powertrain to further improve that mark.

The TMG EV P002 is already the benchmark for electric race cars worldwide, having demonstrated true performance and versatility in establishing the current electric records at Pikes Peak and Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The car is currently on its way to Salisbury, North Carolina where TOYOTA Racing Development U.S.A. Inc. (TRD USA) will perform aerodynamic upgrades to the Radical-based chassis as well as track testing.
On 30 June, just one week after TMG’s TOYOTA Racing team takes on the Le Mans 24 Hours with a hybrid prototype, Rod Millen will drive the TMG EV P002 at Pikes Peak.

Looks like Peugeot has a rival against it's 208 T16! Bring on Pikes Peak! :)

Reminds me of the Audi R10 TDI, but weirder.

I understand the need for the front wing, but... that looks hilarious.
I remember seeing this idiotic Scion Tc or something with a gigantic (it really was huge) spoiler on the front of it. Apparently, it's a time attack car. I think I saw it on SpeedHunters and the car was going to be in NFS Shift. Although I could be wrong.

After all the complaints about Pikes Peak being paved, it's nice to see all these sweet machines still showing up. I don't think anyone can not like this or the Peugeot.. Oh ya and Rod Millen, 'nuff said.

I might not be a fan of paved road but glad to see Toyota step up again! I miss seeing those colors fly, very iconic scheme.

Here we go. It'll stop being about street-rally cars and become "Who spent the most money".

Although, I wouldn't be disappointed to see an R15 or 908 make it's way up...

Great throwback livery to their IMSA days. 👍

Yeah man, I LOVE this car already.

Loving Toyota more and more these days.

This thing looks like it'll be terrific to watch pumping up the mountain. I really need to head out one year and take in Pike's Peak.

I had heard that the organisers were looking to introduce a category for front-end loaders, but I didn't think they were serious. Toyota, however, apparently did.

I still think that Millens Celica or Tacoma would still be very very quick on a all-tarmac Pikes Peak...

Personally I long for the old all gravel PP, however with it being tarmac now... I'll expect some F1 type cars gracing the hill.

No way an electric car can win!

The Tajima Toyota is more interesting to me

Could be a 3-way fight for the win between Loeb, Tajima and Pagenaud if the secret 10th Honda is an unlimited machine.

What is the exact purpose of that wing / cow catcher on the front? :censored:loads of front aero?

It's like the front wing on an open-wheeled car, except they can pretty much make it as big as they want because the regulations are way more relaxed.

Hence why you end up with twin-engined carbon fiber spaceframe Suzuki Vitaras and pretty much Group C cars with Celica bodywork.

Which, while we're on the subject, is apparently still being driven from time to time by Mr.Millen in New Zealand, and is still incredibly fast.

I kinda of been worried about the Pikes Peak event since the paving but lately with a few manufacturers entering cars for the event, Pikes Peak haven't lost anything in their eyes.

Nice retro livery on the Toyota. 👍

I've been very unhappy about the paving of The Peak and I really can't stand that everyone is chasing records now that it takes half the effort to make it happen (like the first year it was paved and everyone was taking credit for being faster than ever before  ).

It "only" has 400kW (~530hp), the Peugeot will be at ~800hp. Then again, it won't suffer the loss of power that a petrol/diesel-powered car will have at ~4,500m above sea level.

Eh still ugly but if it works it works. I'm so much more a fan of closed cockpit cars in general.

I'm surprise they don't try again with something closer to the Tacoma they used, that thing was sleek and fast!

Not wholly relevant, but...that instantly reminds me of the so-called "Toyota Trophy Truck" driven by Ivan "Ironman" Stewart.

Actually, more specifically, it reminds me of some time in my childhood when I used to play this game:

Didn't even know about that truck or become familiarized with the livery before that game.
