We all know that a lot of cars IRL come with ABS but what would be the realistic setting on GT5 if one wanted to mirror the ABS on a real car?

It always surprises me that there are so many people who love the realism of this game (as do I) but a lot of them then don't use the ABS in GT5 when the car they are driving actually has it IRL, can anyone explain why this would be? It is a serious question too, I am not being sarcastic so no flaming :D

Realised I should have put a "sometimes" option in the poll, oops. Will use "your mum's a car" for the sometimes option

In real life, it's basically just ABS or no ABS—no fine print there. In GT5, just use ABS 1 or OFF, depending whether the car has it or not. I don't even know what the difference between ABS 1 and 10 in the game is; seem silly...

True that, perhaps it can be suggested to PD for GT6 that it is changed from 1-10 to on/off... Kaz? oh Kaaaaaaaz 💡

I don't know about mirroring real life settings. I just don't use ABS.

Your concerns get me wondering about the R35. See, in real life, it always has some level of TCS. As to which setting in GT5 matches this level, I have no idea...

Yes I am sure there are numerous cars that do as well, yet aids are generally frowned upon as unrealistic!?

Well not really. The McLaren MP4-12C IRL has loads of TCS and ASM and that's why it's so fast. When you turn those off, its a lot slower.

I used to drive all cars without ABS just to learn to do it that way but now i only turn ABS off on cars that don't have it in real life.

ABS off ads the element of brake pedal modulation to the game. It always catches me by surprise after turning ABS on after a long ABS off session how much pedal smashin i can get away with ABS. Managing the balance of the car also becomes a lot more important with ABS off.

About R35: don't mix the active differential with TC. TC cuts engine power when it detects slip while the GT-R's 4wd differential system shift the torque away from the wheel that is spinning to the wheels that are gripping.

Edit: What is your mum driving? :)

Yep I'd heard that! I'm not saying everyone frowns on them but a lot of folks do & I've often wondered if they knew that a lot of cars come with some of them IRL

True, lots of cars are equipped with aids. I think the thing people have problem with is using those aids in GT5; see, if you took one of those cars to the track in real life, you'd most likely turn off all of the aids you can. So do the same when taking your car to the track in GT5.

Simplified: Sure, your E92 M3 has TCS in real life, but when you take it to the 'Ring, you turn it off. So in GT5, turn it off when you go to the 'Ring, too.

What is your mum driving? :)

A Prius, as a matter of fact.

I have no idea about what driving aids cars have in real life so in game I just set them to suit me. I turn them all off (except ABS at 1) because I find they only slow me down. It can be more difficult to control the car without TC but it completely saps the fun out of it when you're sliding round a corner and the engine's not giving you any power because it thinks you'll spin out. Boooring.

As for ABS, I've never really experimented with it. I just leave it at 1 because that's the default. I suppose I should try driving with it off.

Wise words indeed.

By the way I should point out that I'm not a rampant user of aids, I toy with them sometimes & often it defaults to TCS 5 for some reason but for the main I do the usual all off 'cept 1 ABS.

I am however curious as to how others view the aids in GT5 vs RL :)
