Good evening ladies and gentlemen. As far as I am aware no one has created a thread for Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift 2. I have decided to remedy this situation. You should try it or buy it for the following reasons: The price is under $20 in Canada. (I'm not sure of the price elsewhere). You can use the Logitech Driving Force and the Driving Force Pro with it (the instruction booklet does not mention the Logitech G25 and I don't have one to test it :grumpy: ). There is at least one car (and often more than one car) from each of these auto makers: Opel, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Alfa Romeo, Volkswagen, Audi, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, Nissan, Honda, Acura, Mazda, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Suzuki, ASL, and a few others (haven't finished the game yet so there may be more), all of which are fully customizable. You can customize things like the paint and decals, carbon fibre hoods and trunks, wheels, tires, engine components, turbos, cooling systems, CPU (and you can tweak the torque and power with the CPU), suspension (of course), braking systems, LSD, TCS, VCD, and the list goes on and on.

For those who have the first one (Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift) you will be happy to know that you get 2 courses to start with and expand from there. Experience points (called C-Exp) are now utilized during the day to gain what they call "C-Levels". The higher your C-Level the more things you can clear on the different long courses during the day. And now instead of spending hours on one course because the "Slasher" is too hard to find, the Slasher now posts on the course's BBS (in game) after you've beaten everyone in that Parking Area, and all you do is answer and the next night the Slasher will be waiting for you in that course's Parking Area. That may be confusing if you haven't played, but you'll understand soon after you start playing the Conquest mode.

Anyway, thank you very much for your time, and I am looking forward to your replies.

P.S. This is my first big post! :)

Hi there, welcome to GTP! Sorry to inform you but there already is a thread about this called, Kaido Battle in America. Could be confusing if you don't know the title of the game in Japan, but hey we all make mistakes.

It's nice of you to reply to this, but you didn't have go so far as to hurt my feelings. How am I supposed to know it's called "Kaido Battle" if the only title I've ever seen is "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2"? I also feel pretty stupid when the only real reply I get is that everyone else has beaten the game when I couldn't even find the thing until last week! EB Games in Canada doesn't have it, Future Shop didn't have it, Best Buy didn't have it, oh and only Walmart had it, but not till last week! Sorry about the slight negativity of my reply, but perhaps I should pay more attention to the forums, which I respect alot. It is the best one I've seen ever.

Anyway, you gents have a nice day! Long Live Best Motoring!

Don't worry about it, I just realized the 2nd game came out about a week ago. I picked it up and it's been a sweet game so far.

I don't know if you guys are getting this game imported, but I only know it as Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2, still. Yes, you're correct, it does have C-Levels in it. The full name is Category Levels. Anyways, here I'll send you a link at gamespot

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/driving/tokyoxtremeracerdrift2/screenindex.html

Also check out YouTube for some videos, they're pretty cool.

Yes but in japan the game was known as Kaido Battle Touge No densetsu, which is the 3rd kaido battle game. In Europe and Australia it was released under the name Kaido Racer 2, with the first Kaido Racer game being a translated version of the Japanese Kaido Battle 2 Chain reaction.

The First Tokyo Xtreme racer Drift was a translation of the first Kaido battle game.

Also Tokyo Xtreme racer drift is a bit of a stupid name seeing as none of the game takes place in Tokyo. The only thing that both games have in common is the 13 Devils who come from the tokyo highways.

Well, Race Idiot, Thank you for clearing that up. Personally, I've been to Japan in 2004, I went down the mountain pass at Haruna (A.K.A. Akina in Initial D) , and in this game it looks just the same as real life! Well, except for the girls :) . By the way, I've put up a poll about mitsubishi vs. subaru in the "Cars in General" forum.

"Tokyo Xtreme Racer" is rather silly even when applied to the Shutokou Battle series (especially without the "E" in "Extreme")...but I've actually taken a liking to it, and generally refer to the games by that name instead of the original Japanese ones. :)

TXR Drift doesn't sound too bad, it's just kinda confusing that each region the game has a different name. Although it doesn't help that the fact that it's published by two different companies either. I wonder if the American version is any better translated, or the same as the europe version.
There were a few things wrong with the new items menu, allot of the time it would say the wrong item was now available like 'level3 clutch' instead of level4 clutch and then later into the game there was a whole load of garbled text in some of the boxes.

I'm tempted to import this one in hope that the translation might be a bit better and the fact that the european one was converted to pal pretty badly and had some framerate loss which kinda sucked.

Also Mr.Grandorifto can you check something out for me? on the decal adding mode can you get the slashers/trickers decals after you have beaten them? And also when you switch to layer 5 on the decal mode do the extra manufacturer decals (hks/blitz/rays decals etc) come up still? in the Japanese version they did but for some reason it got removed in the european version as well.

I have 1... I love it, good graphics, menu sounds fine to me (talking about the translations) and Its great drifting physics (...NFSC*Has a heart attack*) I just wish the game wasent so hard to get cash... I have a Tureno and i'm in need of cash badly, but do want to race the same track 1704710471907 times for 1 part...

Well, I've taken a look at TXRD2 and although the manufacturer decals do not come up on layer 5 of the decals, you do have sponsors and sponsor decals under a different menu. But, in order to get these sponsor decals, you have to go "tie up sponsor" first. I guess they mean sign up sponsor. I have 10 out of the 16 sponsors right now, and I don't recognize any of them. (maybe they're just knock offs :sly: ). I don't know if you noticed that when you're driving around in TXRD2 they do have some actual manufacturers on the billboards around. I remember seeing MUGEN on one once. Anyways, I'll keep checking up here, and try to keep this thread alive.

Well in that case you should pick up the second TXRD. I had the first one for a while, but it was so difficult and had bad sound, and physics, and such, that I gave up on it and had to wait years for TXRD2. It's a huge improvement from the first TXRD. And you don't have to race a truckload of times on one course for very little money.

Yea, I'm going to have to pick it up... But the local stores dont carry these games... :( so what should I do for the time being?

Oh god i'm lollin here, the intro still says KAIDO BATTLE in it.

How are the load times in TXRD2 compared to 1? It was a major detractor for me the constant loading between screens - just wondering if it's gotten any better.

Because other than that it sounds like a good use of $15. :)

It's a lot better.

Load times are almost instant. Drift physics provide good balance between challenge and speed. There are many courses and cars. And the game just keeps delighting me with all the little details I discover! One tip, since it is difficult to tell in the game: Steering angle "wide" in the settings menu means the wheels turn more and "narrow" means less. with narrow, the car is much more stable, but countersteer is impaired[at opposite lock and emergency brake, it spins]. With wide, countersteer is improved and more often needed [at opposite lock and emergency brake, it will eventually switch direction]. BUY IT!

we should start working at setings cuz most of the cars grip and not drift.

If I remember right, there are some settings posted in the Kaido Battle in America!-Thread

For a starting help:
Use a MR car they are the easiest to drift with. Or a FR. While braking use the handbrake too (especially on FF Cars)
Settings:
Traction Control and ABS will prevent you from drifting, set these to a lower ratio. I have TC at 3 and ABS at 2.

Break Effect - More effect on the rear axle
Hand Brake Work - Try 110% or even more

Tires - Tires with lower level at the rear than the front. Some people use wet-tires for drifting even on dry tracks

Switching the rear tires is really all you need for a decent sliding experience, that and taking off the traction control. Great amounts of tuning aren't really needed for most cars to drift in the game, unlike GT4. :)

BTW, did anyone notice that we have basically two threads that are the same?

If you want settings more easy to transfer between different weather and terrain, [as I did] I've got generic settings to put an AW11 and basically anything else sideways:

[Other]
Brake effect: higher in rear than front. 8/10 and 4/6 do nicely.
Handbrake effect: 150% gives a perfectly coherent corner entry, but you may want to lower this so it looks less jerky in replays.
TCS: 0
ABS: Low. I use 5, which is apparently pretty high. I like it because the brakes still cause slip, but the wheels don't lock.

[Suspension]
Stabilizers: Posistive in rear, negative out front.
Ride height: As a last resort, raise the rear or lower the front for tail-happiness.

[Alignment]
Camber: 3 degrees front and back. The front end will roll over onto the fronts and use the camber to increase contact patch size and therefore grip. The rear doesn't roll over onto the larger contact patch and loses grip. If this isn't used in conjunction with the stabilizer settings, it simply increases the rear equally to the front and speeds up the whole affair harmlessly.

[Powertrain]
LSD: High values for both, I use 5+
Transmission: just a reminder to not set it to uselessly high top speed. Lower the default top speed [which is much too high] and acceleration required to maintain drift is given.

And lastly, don't go just on theory with your settings. TEST THEM and use theory to explain the results. You will be a much better racer, not that ultra skill is required to beat this game. A fast car does the job, unfortunately...

Hope I helped!
