It's certainly good that we have some higher-end FWD cars to add more variety. Given that these are more capable of handling higher amounts of horsepower efficiently, it makes me think that the "all motor no steering" behavior that the smaller FWD cars are currently showing may be intentional. I do remember the Toyota bB having a couple of rather aggressive aftermarket tuning packages at one point (though we never saw really that with the Scion version), and a quick Google search shows plenty of legit and plenty more questionable tuning options for the Suzuki Swift, so it's possible that the rivals using them pushed their vehicles way past reasonable limits in a misguided attempt to compete with more potent RWD/AWD competition.
Speaking of which, I did remember hearing that engine swaps may be a thing in this game.

It appears that Japanese plastic model brand Hasegawa will be collaborating with TXR2025.

"Snakeholic," an A70 Supra in homage to Snake Eyes, driven by a female Wanderer named Hasegawa Mii (Mi?).

"Midnight Plamo," a Z32 in homage to Midnight Rose, driven by a female Wanderer named Hasegawa Ai.

These two women will actually appear as Wanderers in TXR2025, and these two custom cars will also be released as plastic models by Hasegawa in November and December, respectively.

It's unclear whether these models will be released outside of Japan, but it's certainly something to look forward to!

They should be released as diecasts.

In fact, some rivals have already been swapped for powerful engines, even though they are custom cars.
High Gambler's bB has been swapped for a powerful 2-liter engine, which is thought to be an SR20? Also, although it has now been nerfed and no longer uses this engine, in the streamer version where they were able to play the TXR25 a few days earlier than the early access version, Trans drive's Copen was also equipped with a similar engine, and it seems that she was a far more fearsome and powerful boss that tormented streamers than she is now.

Hahaha a bB with an SR20 is hilarious. Now I suddenly want it back in Gran Turismo...

A bit upsetting that there's no console release. Maybe next year I suppose.
They did say that they wanted to make sure there would be enough interest in the series' revival before doing that. Even with it being much easier to port games to consoles than it was in the past, it's still a pretty expensive process.

They've also registered the Shutokou Battle/Tokyo Xtreme Racer trademarks for console games in Japan and North America.

However, we must consider the possibility that these are merely defensive registrations to prevent unscrupulous mockbusters from stealing the trademarks for these console titles. In fact, Kanjozoku Racer was maliciously renamed to "Tokyo Racer X," and some people were actually fooled...

Another unfinished 1.0 release, features dropped or delayed but they’ll take the money now.

Gaming in 2025 is just wonderful.
Quite honestly, this game was released in a more refined state in Early Access than many AAA titles were as a v1.0 in recent years. If this is what 'unfinished' looks like, I'll take it over a £70+ bug-ridden title any day of the week.

Will they have the courage to come to PS5? I definitely hope so, because I never play games on PC. I think Forza Horizon shows there is vast space for other driving titles on the platform.

But, I still don't get if there is some connection between this game and the old Shutoko/Kaido ones beside the Genki brand. I thought the GRP team was completely disbanded after 2007's Wangan Midnight game, so is this completely new team or is there some linkage?

I can assure you it is the same Genki that did the old ones.

TDU Solar Crown had the benefit of multiple delays, the removal of the 8th generation console versions (Including a Switch version), and the numerous closed and open playtest phases for a good number of months before release. And look where it's standing currently.

And somehow, even if Genki are doing something with the feedback over the past 8-or-so months (the CP system revision for example), that makes it bad enough to be in the likes of TDUSC, or whatever the next CoD or Battlefield release currently is. Let alone any game that aims to be "the next GTA" currently, as they burn a pretty hole in the pocket to themselves and the consumers.

What? The game was already really impressive when Early Access started, half the time I forgot I was even playing an Early Access game. They even pushed back the full release so they had extra time to add features and make changes specifically based on player feedback. What about it is unfinished to you?

Yeah, TXR 2025 might be one of the best early access games I've ever played and one of the best reboots of anything this year, other than the new King of the Hill season lol. If the unfinished features are "it's not on console! yet!" or a leaderboard or a lack of a replay function, which Genki has been incredibly transparent about in the leadup to release (not just in this post but for months now), it seems like the issue in this case is criticism for the sake of criticism.

No console announcement + price increase sept ‘25 = I just bought the game on Steam.

Can already play it on my Lenovo gaming laptop from a few years old, but I kinda bought it for my upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X. 😎

Awesome, I just "finished" the early access version and was prepared to uninstall and forget all about it until release, glad that's not only got a date but it's also very soon.

Something funny happened to me earlier, I just finished a race past Daikoku PA and decided that rather than drive all the way around I'd just drive the wrong way for a bit to get to the parking area, go in and turn around there, but the game had other ideas...

Man if Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a big enough name in 2025 to have eShop shovelware clones like The Last of Us and Call of Duty eying it closely enough that Genki has to file defensive trademarks...

It brings a tear to my eye.

Happy to hear Genki is ready for a full release and absolutely thrilled with having Honda onboard as well.

Crossing my fingers for an imminent console announcement.

Brave choice of words considering your avatar.

Wake the F up, street racer! We have a highway to rule.

Comparing TXR 2025 to something like Mindseye or Solar Crown because Genki admitted...

checks notes

They don't have a way to keep leaderboards from being filled with hackers... is wild.

Plus they're being upfront and transparent about the fact that they're not able to implement it in the way they want it to, instead of silently editing a roadmap PNG every month or two to keep pushing it back.

This is to the best of my knowledge and may be incorrect:

Genki once fell into a management crisis and is now under the umbrella of Daikoku, a Japanese gambling machine manufacturer.
Genki's former representative director, Mr. Hamagaki, has already left the company to found Nonki Co., Ltd.

While many of the staff involved in the TXR/GRP series have already left Genki, that doesn't mean that all of them are no longer with Genki.
The producer of TXR2025 was a staff member who previously worked on the TXRD series, and is a valuable asset to the current Genki team as he knows the TXR series well.
In an interview, he said that the fact that many of the people who knew the series back then have already left the company made the development of TXR25 difficult, but what happened to the efforts of him and the current Genki staff? The reception of the Early Access version already speaks for itself. They have overcome a difficult challenge.

By the way, this game continues the story that was connected from TXR (Dreamcast) to ITC. The time setting is about 3-4 years after ITC.

A side note: A quick summary of the connections between the TXR series. Because there are significant differences in the TXR series due to localization, this list will be based on the series setting in the Japanese version of Shutokou Battle, which is the basis for the story of TXR25.
