No, not that old Tim Allen show.

This is just a little survey of what kind of tools you use. I was going to do a poll, but there are so many different brands out there the list would be huge. Not only is this a survey of the tools, but which size you use( 3/8,7/16,1/2,9/16, and metric to)

I myself use craftsman (mainly 7/16 to 9/16). Mainly because of the waranty. Bring it back to the front desk at sears and grab a new one. Simple as that

So what kind of tools do you have?
 
I have tool chests full of different brands, types, sizes etc. Way too many to list.

I regularly use both Imperial and Metric depending on what I'm working on.
 
Yeah, I don't have any certain size or brand either. I use what I need at that time.

My most commonly used tool is probably my Dremel tool because it is so versatile; cutting, polishing, sanding. My wife can even use it on things without scaring herself, except for cutting metal. The sparks scare her to death.


That reminds me, I need a new fiberglass disk for it.
 
I have a Craftsman 1/2" socket driver that says "Patent Pending". That sucker works better than my 2 year old Stanley driver.

Other than that, I also have a crap load of tools in my garage. My dad was a mechanic for many years and the Snap-On guy stopped in the shop once a week, so he had to buy a new tool each time, right?? :lol:
 
I have a garage full of tools (literally full of tools, the car doesn't go in there). Band saws about 5 different types of drill, a miter saw, electric sanders hand held and desktop and plenty of tool sets. Brand wise I have loads of differnt brands.
 
It doesn't look like this thread is going to go anywhere. So far, we are all the same - too many tools to name and multiple brands.
 
I have a ball-peen hammer I got from a BMW assembler, who got that from an older German guy named Hans. Hehe.


Best hammer I've ever used, it must be 40 years old.

I wish everything in the world tool-wise was metric, though. I can't stand stupid american ignorance with retarded measurments like 9/16ths and etc when we could just be done with 14mm.

That's my dad's powered tool set. I saw my dad's but I've used all of them more than him bar the 8inch circular that I haven't touched yet. Never used one in school so it scares me :p Most are 'Performance'. I think that's a brand from B&Q.

We have a Mitre saw, work bench, work horses (Stands or whatever) etc aswell.

Yeah, what about it Snortin? You hardly did any better. Don't critiscise for bad grammar and use bad grammar yourself, it's not decorous.

I think he was trying to make a point, just as some of us do from time to time.

AAAAnyway, I mainly have Jimy tools, as I am fairly sure that they come out of the same factory as Snap-On, and I cannot afford to replace my old snap-on set that got lifted from the boot of my car. I also have some GMC tools, which IMO are the best value tools out! 3 year warranty. so just make sure you kill it within 3 years (easy enough), and take it back for a new one!
 
I don't have/use any tools. Well, i have had a hammer for over a decade and a metal hacksaw thingy with has probably gone rusty.
 
Only tools I really use are the ones connected to my skateboard T-tool. Quite handy little thing, it is.
 
Coincidently I just received a whole bunch of more tools today from my grandfather. He bought so many tool but never uses them, I received:

*As new large quality air compressor (good thing as mine is about 30 years old and in pretty bad shape)
*Paint spray gun (I needed a new one)
*2 Torque/tension wrenches, one is 5-70Nm and the other is 40Nm+, I have 3 now but the 5-70Nm one is handy as the other two are 40Nm+.
*2 hex (Allen key) ratchet sets
*Dial caliper (I just had a ordinary vernier caliper)
*1/2inch pipe bender
*Pipe flaring tool (expensive one with a ratchet system)
*Die and tap set
*Straight edge and other adjustable measuring tools
*2 stainless steel rulers

All older tools but as new (some never opened) and high quality, I already had most those tools but these are mostly better quality and newer.

Jack you dont have any tools and if you did you wouldn't know what to do with them, you just are a tool. :p

Well me and my dad are proffesional deck builders and we only use DeWalt tools for that. The stuff for car related stuff is just a mix of all types of brands.
 
Ahh, shush up you!... I also have to use the damn screwdriver whenever my damn DFP pedals screw up. o I have 2 uses!

I remember when I first got all my tools. I was still in college and my brother was just getting started in his condo. I was buying my brother's car and my dad and brother were trying to take off his kayak thing and reattach the windscreen for the sunroof. My tool set was nothing but what I needed for replacing car stereos (wratchet set, couple screwdrivers, allen wrench), as I became the guy to do that at school, and my brother had a hammer and two screwdrivers.

That following summer my dad gave us both tool boxes chock full of tools for our birthdays. some were tools he used as a machinist in a factory and others were new that he guarantees will last me a lifetime. The hammer is the biggest I have ever seen. He had to cut two inches off the handle to make it fit in the tool box and it still looks huge. It even had two carbon allen wrench sets that my dad swears will never bend or break, although they might twist a bit.

My dad's exact words when he gave them to us were, "I've never seen grown men without a real set of tools before."

It did pay off though, because about a month later I locked myself out of my apartment, so I just popped my trunk, removed my window and climbed in. This is when it occured to me that I wasn't as secure in my apartment as I thought. The window was out and I was inside in about 15 minutes, none of my neighbors noticed. I guess it is what you get for a cheap college apartment.


Ever since then my brother and I have been adding to our tool sets. Now walking into a home store is almost as bad as walking into a Best buy. I'm going to buy something before I leave.
 
I asked for a red Craftsman tool box before I went away to college, and I still have it. I was the only fella in the entire dorm with a tool set and box, it came in quite handy...they were also the only things that people returned promptly when asked! At first, they were pretty much all hand-me-downs, or spare tools mom and dad had lying around. Some are rusted, have paint on them, chipped, scratched, but they all worked, and with few exceptions, they all still do the job.

I've bought a few here and there; an 18V Black & Decker rechargable drill and bit set, a full 130 piece ratchet set, received a few as gifts. Since I'm not a professional, I can't justify spending 2-3 times as much for the major brand names. Basically, Lowe's has a phenomenal return policy, so if I have a problem, they'll exchange it long after it's bought.

I'm not exclusive to any brand names, except for some of my sharper yard equipment like axes, pruners, and other cutting and chopping stuff...the Fiskars stuff works nicely and it's ergonomically easy on your arms, hands, wrists. Splitting apart fallen trees for a week didn't strain me at all.
