I've finished the Top Gear special events last night, and i must say i'm really disappointed.

What's the point of having the support of the top gear franchise, the top gear test track and even a mention of The Stig at the opening video, if all you do is race in a VW Hippie Van that goes no faster than 60km/h and race a bunch of ramming WWII german cars? I'll keep the Lotus challenge out of this thread, because I think it already had much attention at the forums, if you all know what i'm talking about.

IMHO, PD could do a great job and partnership with the Top Gear franchise, imagine a "Beat The Stig" Challenge, in wich you could go against Stig's lap times on the Test Track, or better, imagine "Are YOU a star in a reasonably priced car?" on wich you could race the famed reasonably priced car for lap times against friends.

Seriously, the options are limitless, but instead PD decided to do 3 events that have absolutely nothing to do with the show, besides the track, off course.

I'm really disappointed, that's all i wanted to say. What do you guys think about?

Stig is dead... hence his non-appearance in the game.

Same thing I said in another thread:

"Also, there are no standing starts on the Top Gear test track. WTF – who in product development overlooked the fact that everyone would want to test their skills against all the celebrities in the reasonably priced car or against the Stig in the latest exotic from a standing start like it is done in the show. And wouldn’t it have been cool to have a feed from Top Gear of all the Stig’s times along with all the reasonably priced car times. So then after watching the latest show you could get on the game and try to beat the latest times? "

The Stig is dead as a character... he died as a part of Top Gear following the failed BBC court case to stop the person playing him revealing his identity in a book.

I'm sure PD would have liked to have done more with the idea (I remember seeing quotes of there being 'Stig challenges' during the long lead up to GT5's release), but the loss of the character has obviously limited PD's ability to link with the TG Show.... particularly as this all happened very close to the final release of the game.

Shame, but hardly PD's fault.

Hmm thats what he said?

I know the driver who "played" The Stig tried to go public and publish a book about his life, but hasn't Top Gear hired a new Stig? I remember seeing something like that on the internet.

The Stig is not dead. Top Gear unveiled the new Stig quite some time ago. This new is to wear exactly the same colour racing suit/helmet as the old one, and therefore there should have been no problems with including him/it in the game.

Maybe PD decided to remove the Stig until the new one is more well known by the public, because at the moment most Top Gear fans don't even realise there is a new Stig yet! So perhaps the Stig will be included in a future update? We'll have to wait and see.

The dude who "played: Stig is dead but the character lives on, that's the point, PD could add "Beat The Stig" challenges to the Top Gear Special Events...

They definitely dropped the ball on a potential favorite...

GT5 Top Gear Track : Real Top Gear Track
as
Top Gear America : Real Top Gear

Top gear always has things like this on it so its just like it really unless you wanted to turn a reliant robin into a space shuttle or put a hi-lux on top of a building thats about to be demolished. Theres always dlc or updates that could bring new things we will have to wait and see.

TopGear is also about making fun (hence the episode playin soccer with Toyota Aygo's). I thought the Volkswagen Vans on a Top Gear track are quite humorous.

I really hated, besides, it PISSES ME OFF, to know that PD modeled a VW hippie van as a Premium car instead of modeling the Veyron or the McLaren Race Car...

Wait, there are standing starts on TGTT. In British lightweights you don't do a rolling start. So a little programming tweak on PD's part and we can have the option to do a rolling or standing start.

Wouldn't the fact that you're having a big court case about revealing your identity kind of reveal your identity?

Haha, yeah. I think we all wanted to be able to drive the track, and see how we stack up to the Stig. Though maybe the Top Gear folks didn't want us to do that? Who knows.

And no- the Stig is not dead, Top Gear did a big reveal with a whole video about how Stigs are born and raised, and then the new Stig flew out on stage in some exotic car, and then drove off.

Forgettin about the ins and outs of the stig, im hugely disappointed with the way the test track has been used in gt5.

Its seems a no brainer to me that people will want to rag their cars around the track as we all see in the show but what do we get instead, old vw camper vans and archaic WWII military jeep type things which are about as exciting as being hit in the head with a brick.

I can even begin to imagine what PD were thinking with this one, they missed a huge glaringly obvious choice by a country mile.

I supose they wanted to recreate some of those wacky races they did in the shows .. airport vehicle races , camper races etc .. You can still drive any car on it in arcade mode tho ? (after getting gold in the first event)

Complete under-useage of a concept 👎

Standing starts and the actual leaderboard like the one on the show?

How about the Cool wall? Create your own TG challenges... Beat the Stig... I don't know.... just anything that adds a bit of jazz, bit of spice... soemthing overall I find GT5 is lacking.

The Stig is dead! Love live The Stig!

All things you could do on these forums with a little initiative and imagination.

I am pretty dissapointed as well. The Tog Gear franchise is a gold mine in terms of cool challenges and "beating the stig" missions. Modelling a reasonably priced car should be a no brainer as well.

Another thing that really, really bugs me, is that the postitions of the cameras are different. I was really looking forward to see my car blasting past the tires in the replay mode like you see it in the show.

Instead we get totally different camera positions... :ouch:

I think they gained as little fun as possible from including Top Gear into the game. The possibilites are endless, and they chose three different version of exactly the same challenge. Sometimes I try to imagine the meeting they had and how they figured out that this is the way to go. hmm.

An excellent point and another opportunity missed.

I hate what they have done with the Top Gear test track!!!

1. Who needs cones when you have a racing line!! There should be an option to turn them off + the tyre wall!!! Besides pretty much everyone knows the track!!! You have to do challenges on it to unlock it!!!

2. Let us use the whole dam run way!!!

3. Damage should not happen if you go onto the 'grass'!! Crashing into a wall that doesn't exist shouldn't cause damage!!! Let alone be billed for it!!!

4. No Top Gear cars???!!! What the hell!! Not as important as the others but still!! Seriously!!

5. I'd like to start my lap in Top Gear fashion. Standing still on the line!!!!

These basic requirements need to be met. It was just added as a marketing ploy and yes it worked much to my disappointment!!

I really hope PD releases an update/patch or DLC to add a new variation to the top gear track to include options as starting or rolling starts, and also let us use the entire runway for drag racing or top speed challeneges online and off. C'mon!

The VW Van actually makes perfect sense, if you remeber that in the episode where Jamie Oliver was The Star in the Reasonibly Priced Car. They had The Stig drives his car around the track while he tried to cook in the back of it. And what was Jamie Olivers car you ask? A VW Van Like the one in the game, although it was modified.

Indeed, or even in practice!!

or even online! 👍
