So I was playing around in my Mazda 787b on the Top Gear test track, when I found the following:

If you drive around the track until you get to the long straight, that heads straight down the runway furthest point on the track from the start), and look beyond the cones at the corner at the end, there are concrete blocks at the end of the runway..... However when viewed in the rear view mirror (either bumper cam or cockpit cam), they are plastic cones......

Weird, huh?

Guessing cones were there first, then they decided they didn't want people going beyond the boundaries of the track and indestructible cones would be a little unrealistic, and subsequently forgot to make the change in the mirror track model.

But they should be the same model, they are not going to waste memory just to having separate track models for each mirror.

Maybe there are cones behind the barrier and the barrier is not being rendered in the rear view revealing the cones behind?.. Just guessing as I can not remember that part of the track.

Yeah, even in reflections it's different. For instance my truck has a chrome front to it, so if you put that in front of those concrete blocks the the reflection shows cones.

There are two models, one for normal viewing and one for reflections and mirrors. You should notice lots of items are missing and the track has less textures and curves are really blocky.

They did a bad job with mirrors in my opinion. No rain spray, snow, dirt, smoke, or anything like that when looking in mirrors.

It must be similar to why if you look at the back of your car you can see your spoilers and defroster however neither are visible in your rear view mirror.

Perhaps the track model is the same but low res object models are used instead.

Reflections and mirrors show lower res objects and textures, for cars, tracks, and props. Look at a car in your mirror when cornering, and you can see low poly wheels. It's to save memory, alot of it. For how small the mirrors are, and how often you really use them, there's no need to have the same detail as what's full screen. There's no way the game would be able to run at it's current specs if that were the case.

I was playing Gran Walley East and saw there's no smoke in mirrow, too!

Also what I noticed, there is no smoke in splitscreen?!

This is the worst thing, even if they put in GT5P smoke that would be better than no smoke as split screen dfirting sucks
