I don't think you can adjust the brake bias on this event. I have been trying with all the aids off except abs is set to 1 and mysteriously the car is starting to behave a lot better or am I learning how to drive it. I got 4th and then 2 tries later I got 3rd. Where I'm losing time is the follow through and the corner after that, and to a lesser degree the second last corner. Once I learn to take these corner at the right speed first place won't be far off

I had ABS set to 1, all other aides off and managed the Lotus challenge in around half an hour (gold). Once I nailed the Follow-thru without a massive drift onto the grass it was no problem.
The VW challenge took me atleast 3 hours (gold)!
The key is smooth driving and skill/technique for sure. (and very few aides)

I never said it was impossible, I said the handling of the vehicle in this event is totally unrealistic and setting it up as such is completely retarded!

I drive a vehicle (brunton super stalker) with approx 300whp/300wtq at 1500 lbs with "street tires" and it handles nothing like this whatsoever.

WTF, you guys, this topic is about 1 month old and covered in depth including youtube video guides in multiple threads...'

Do a search for "Top gear lotus" to see 100,000 threads on this exact topic

Yep, turn Skid Recovery on and you will gold it first time. It's a ridiculous event really, I usually hate resorting to driver aids but there is just no pride to salvaged in grinding through this sort of cr*p.

You're better of just getting through it, buying descent cars and spending your time either in Arcade mode or online

I just got gold in this event all driver aids were off except abs 1 and I changed my wheel from 900 degrees to 270.
270 is the way to go for sure

Ok, I decided to tackle this one yesterday since I read so many people complaining about how hard it is to control the Elise, etc. The first time I drove it I was like whoooaaaaaaa, oversteer city especially if you break too hard. The key is to have smooth throttle and braking control and not to accelerate too hard out of a corner when turning.

All the assists were off except TCS which was set to 5. ABS was 0. Manual trans. DS3 controller. Managed to sneak bronze and was quite proud of that considering how much of a handful the car was to control. Then I decided I would put ABS to 1 and turn Skid Recovery on. Wow, what it difference it made. Got gold after about 20-25 minutes.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

You posted this to show off didn't you?

Took me hours. Turned all the assists on in the end.

Girly swat.

This took me about 2 hours (in 2 different sessions) to do with ABS set to 1 and no other assists. Was both infuriating and extremely fun at the same time. Finally getting the gold was well worth it. I used the controller too.

It was way, way, way harder than the beginner or expert versions of the challenge. I did those both within 20 mins or so. At first I thought the Elise was impossible to drive but after the tortuous practice with it in that challenge, I actually really like it now. It's rapid round corners.

The brake bias setting (and perhaps some other settings) is configured in options, I think you can set a button for quick tuning options, which I, and I guess many people, kinda overlooked. I've not checked yet but read it in another thread.

I think PD made this test unrealistically tough by putting comfort tires on a car which is widely praised for it's handling. IRL, the elise and exige both roll on pretty aggressive sport rubber. With that said, you can't change the tires, and it is a bear of a test. I golded with TCS @ 0 and ABS @1 after about an hour and a half of figuring out the quickest path through the traffic. If you've moved your throttle and brake to your R2 and L2 triggers with the DS3 (I recommend), practice using both triggers in tandem, by feathering the triggers you can effectively trail brake (throttle) and simulate TCS (brake.) Most importantly, learn to be smooth with your steering.

I was getting fed up with this one so I beat it by using these settings. God only knows why PD used comfort tyres on the Elise. It totally ruins this fantastic car.

TCS up to 7
ABS to 10
Turn active steering on
Turn skid recovery on

Have fun.

I had a hard time with Samba challenge, so I really expected to have a lot of problems. But after few very bewildered attempts where gold seemed impossible task, I tackled it from another side and did it with ease!

Heres what I did:
1. Put traction control on 5. ABS on 1 and driving line on on. I normally drive without aids, but since you are stuck with some stock tires, I was forced to do this to get some grip.
2. Stop the car at beginning and let opponents drive far past me, then I learned to drive the track without traffic. I quickly found the keys to driving that track fast. Last four corners. First two are fast combination that leads to back straight (you can loose a lot against AI here) and then last two corners. There you can break very late into them and take first one a gear higher than the second one. You should gain a lot of time against AI.
3. After I was confident in my driving, I attacked AI and to my amazement, got gold on third try.

I believe Samba challenge would be just as easy if I did the above. The biggest problem with difficulty and that challenge is that you are immediately put into a car and track that you are not familiar with. And since track and racing rules are very harsh in those challenges, you make a lot of mistakes early on and with penalties you have no time to properly adjust, unless offcourse you first learn to handle the car and track without unnecessary obstacles.

I bronzed it a while back after several bad attempts and didn't bother with it, I just hated it... Then after like @#$!% attempts of the Vettel challenge with DS3 without success, I decided to take a break and try something else...

And whoa, gold on the first try with everything off except ABS 1. I think the key is like everyone else said, smoothness, and I realized the problem wasn't the challenge nor the Elise, it was me... I just wasn't smooth enough with the controls then.

I keep getting 2nd every time that darn red elise must have nitrous lol I get into 10 on the first turn then 6th on hammerhead then 2nd on follow through on the last lap

Got gold after a couple of hours trying, all assists were turned off except ABS set to 1, passed the car in P1 on the second to last corner. With the exception of certain Seasonal Events, I think this is the hardest in game challenge, it should be the Expert event in the Top Gear Special Events imo, not intermediate.

After reading this thread I decided to retry this idiotic event. After one attempt I remembered why I had given it up. The event summarizes the idiocy, underachievement, sloppiness and lack of detail this game represents.

I had once again worked my way through the field to 6th place ofter the 1st lap when, at the next to last corner, the car behind me slightly tapped my rear right fender. I got disqualified. What could be more idiotic about any game I do not know.

I do wish Kaz would go host a cooking TV show or something and leave the development and management of the GT franchise to someone else.

What a shame.

PS; I forgot to mention I eventually braved my way through the gold in this event :/

It took me over 2hrs one friday night to finally bronze it on my millionth attempt. ABS 1 no TCS,if i had to attempt it one more time i reckon the PS3 would have gone flying out the 2nd story window! For my sanity and my PS3`s safety i`ll have to settle for bronze and move on.

It is more likely learning to live along with its oversteer! Once got used to it the gold was a piece of cake. Hate the looks of that Lotus though!

Finally managed to eek into first place and learned a few things on the way:

Sliding is slow - Any time you lose grip on the track surface, your tires aren't putting power to the ground and the car is relying strictly on momentum.

Hitting hurts - This old parental adage couldn't be truer in this circumstance. I thought using other cars to keep me on the track while going faster than I should was a good idea, but any of my attempts that netted 3rd place or better actually included fewer collisions (minor or otherwise) than attempts that resulted in higher (numerically) ranking.

Be smooth - I didn't need this particular event to tell me that smooth throttle, brake, and steering inputs are a good thing, but it becomes so much more evident when really only driving skill is the difference between all competitors.
