So,ive been trying to match the times from the top gear site in GT5 today, every car i seem to use i was 10 seconds or more than the real time(if that is a true time)

These were on sports hard,so should i be using comforts?
i used comforts on a few cars, and although it was closer to the real time it was still slightly faster than the real time(1 or 2 seconds with mistakes).

Is there any difference in the track that im not seeing, and what tyres should i be using for which cars, cars that i thought i should be using sports on were way faster so im not sure here.

It's not the tires or the physics or anything, the biggest problem is that you're not the Stig. If you got one of the new suits it may cut down on your lap time, but not by much. :p
Seriously, what cars were you testing and were you online or in arcade? If you were testing cheap cars on sports in the game, when in real life the cars were on comforts, that may be the problem.

You should largely be using comfort tires and a steering wheel with no assistance (simulation). Very few cars use 'sports' (semi-slick) tires.

I tested the C63 AMG and the Esprit V8 both on comfort and sport hard in A spec practise mode.

Forgot to mention im using G25

Remember top gear times are a standing start.
But yes comfort tyres will give a closer lap time that's why the SLS seasonal was on Comfort tyres.
Even though the SLS comes out of the Dealership fitted with Sports hard.

How could i forget! that would make up some of the time missing.

Also while im here, should i beusing power assisted steering? i set my force to about 4,im undecided which is better,i switch them regularly.

I assume power assist is like power steering? If so then it depends on the car. Almost all cars have some sort of power steering (hydraulic or electric) with only a few low volume cars having none.

10 seconds behind? That sounds way too long. I remember being withing 2-3 second maximum with most cars I've tested. Perhaps you're messing something up at the start of the lap?

no..10 seconds infront. i could have worded it better.

If that's the case then it's mostly a case of tyres as suggested above, the default tyres are usually a tier above what they should although there's no real way to tell unless you run some tests. There's a thread floating around about tyre testing and what each car should have but I haven't seen it for a while.

RE: FFB. I run FFB at 8 and power steering on, and occasionally turn on the DFP's FFB reduction (select + R3 + left paddle I think).

Just did a 1'22.2 on comfort softs in an Audi R8 great I thought but then I tried the Enzo on comfort softs....it wheel spins in 3rd gear (almost in 4th gear too), only got 1'27 with that on comfort tyres...spinning and poor driving just results from using an Enzo on comforts.

- standing start
- comfort medium or soft. Depends of the car: supercars are all on soft. Among low end cars, Civic Type-R mounts very grippy tires too.
- no assists except of ABS (I guess Stig disables TCS/ASM when the switch is available, to go faster)
- not sure if he warmups the tires before starting. It will be a noticeable difference.

Apart of above requirements, cones are incorrectly placed outside of GT5 track's Chicago corner.

Another thing you might want to consider (but along the line with the other suggestions): now that we can turn ON fuel consumption/tire wear and temperature, you might want to use the option. I find using it slows the car down considerably even one the tire's up to temperature. This might have to do with fuel load as well.

If you don't want to turn that option ON, it's best to pick tires that are one grip lower than the default tires. Also you might want to use this recommended tire list in order to get closer to real life performance: http://tiny.cc/zt2qi

The suggested tires are based on the RL skid pad test and personally I find that for most part is quite accurate in term of lap times. But of course, there's just too may variables to be exact.

I'm using comfort soft on all cars....just a frustrating excercise as cars like the Enzo and RWD in general are solid to drive.

Even tho i didnt try setting a lap time with a enzo on confort tyres... I can tell you that the car with all aids off with sports hard tyres is so so hard to drive...

Cornering with these gears in an Enzo results in:

1st gear - huge wheel spin (undrivable)
2nd gear - massive wheel spin (getting better)
3rd gear - quite a bit of wheel spin (still getting better)
4th gear - just a little bit of wheel spin (so much better than 3rd gear)
5th gear - preety much no wheel spin
6th gear - preety much not even moving... lol :dopey:

Still I love the Enzo and it's my favourite car :D

Is there any reason why the Top Gear test track was implemented in such a horrible way? What's the point of it if you can't have a standing start?

lol comparing your times to real life is sort of unnecassary. Yea it will be close because GT5 does have amazing physics, but in your couch at home your not feeling the G forces and the fear that you would going by the wall of tires at like 130 mph and trusting that the runway is wide enough for you to just turn at those speeds. You can get close but its nothing like racing in real life.

THIS!!!!! 👍

I tried like stopping a little before but it starts the clock when im still like 2 feet away from the start line!!! 👎

No standing start available at TGTT in GT5 is just one more colossal FUBAR by Kaz/PD.

The fact they won't fix it is completely ridiculous.

Oh well... they completely wasted the Top Gear test track and licensing as a whole. Kaz/PD don't deserve to use it in GT6.

Yes BWX, i'm sure all they do is sit around being lazy and completely ignorant of everyone else...

For the ~150 man team at PD I think GT5 as it is now is a spectacular achievement, sure there are some flaws but tell me a game without any?

So you are defending their utilization of TGTT? No? I never said what you said so don't try to put words in my mouth.
