I have a guy here telling me he has a GTR SpecV 09 that crosses the shadow on Road Course Indy at 156MPH. Is this possible. I don't believe him.

Top speed has nothing to do with anything, except maybe give you a bit of an idea to where to set your final gear (which I'd normally put 10-20mph faster than your trap speed, on Indy and SSRX), it's how fast you get to that shadow that counts.

But I kind of find that a little too good to be true

Yes it is very possible. Give this a read to get an idea of what some different cars are capable of at Indy. But as slash said it's more about how fast you get to the line than how fast you're going when you get there. 👍

Well said team leader, a car can cross the line at 300mph but takes 60 seconds to get there. A car can also cross the line at 100mph but may only take 5 seconds. These were just examples and don't replicate an actual car. Top speed isn't everything.

If you have the adjustable transmission a trial either in 'Practice' or in the race will tell you if you need to adjust the top speed. BUT, on long straights or as at Indy the corner and straight used from the oval in the road course slipstreaming plays a huge part, get behind a couple of cars and your top speed will shoot up, and, if you are geared too low you hit the limiter.

My ideal gearing for these courses sees me just hitting the limiter at the braking point after I've slipstreamed the length of the straight and not quite caught the car in front.

On some cars I lengthen 5th so it is the free air top gear and shorten sixth so it is for slipstreaming.
