Mods, if this is in the wrong section, I apologize, but I see this rather as a general game issue, therefore I thought I'll post it here.

So, I tested all of the major super and hypercars's top speeds and some of them are way of the real thing.

I was hoping some of you would know the right gear box tune for them.

Cars in question are the McLaren F1 (real life: 386kmh(240mph), in game 356kmh), the TVR Speed 12 (same speed as F1) and the Veyron (real life 407kmh-in game 391). So, did some of you already find the right tune because I simply couldn't get them there.

I only ever done that for my 200sx to make it as real as possible. Did you even trying looking for them? after 2min i found "'McLaren F1 LM' have the following gear ratios: 3.23:1, 2.19:1, 1.71:1, 1.39:1, 1.16:1, 0.93:1, with a final drive of 2.37:1," and "The Torsen LSD (Limited Slip Differential) has a 40% lock"

Found this site - http://www.maximum-cars.com/Cars/ and http://www.supercars.net/index.html

Hope this helps you out.

I did a search, yes, but hear on GtPlanet. Didn't even think of using real ratios, can you really actually use them in the game?

Also, thx for the links.

It should work. you might have to mess about with it abit. If you give it a try post up the results would be nice to see how real gt5 will be when cars are set up like the real thing.

K. What really bugs me is that this issue is there at all. Also on the F1 for example, 30kmh difference! That's huge.

Yes I know how you feel gt5 was a big let down from what I expected just full of so many little silly faults.

Great, there's NOTHING you could do with those number in the game, so it's just trying...
But there is something interesting I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_F1#Gearbox_and_powertrain
"On 31 March 1998, it set the record for the fastest road car in the world, topping at 231 mph (372 km/h) with rev limiter on, and 242.95 mph (391 km/h) with rev limiter removed."

So, maybe this stupid rev limiter is on, as I did hit 371 with it, but simply for my life can't figure out how to imrpove that speed.

Also, that still wouldn't explain the wrong speeds of the other cars.

McLaren F1 has a top speed of 372km/h. 386 km/h was achieved with a special XP4 prototype which had rev limiter removed along some other things tweaked.
But yeah, it is an oddity since max I could get out was 356 km/h or so...

F1's gearbox ratios are totally wrong in GT5, it's basically a 5 gear box with 6th gear as cruise gear.

Well ok, so I fixed the gears for this car then (at least for the "normal" version of it).

But simply can't make the Veyron ANY faster, and the Speed 12 is still shy of 10km or so...

Edit: forget that completely, just found out it was the Speed 12 I improved to a 370, the F1 is still at 356, what a joke.

Edit 2: Well, I'll give up. This is so seriously 🤬 up, I can improve the top speed of the Gallardo and Enzo by up to 15kmh WITH EASE but can't higher it by even 5 for the F1 and Veyron...What is this, I don't even...

GT5, you let me oh so down once more...

I believe the discrepancy is because of aerodynamic drag, rather than gearbox related factors. If you install a rear wing for the F1, you'll see that it has quite a lot of downforce as stock (IIRC front 35, rear 45). Same for the Speed 12. And the Veyron as well (though you can't install a wing to check it, it's pretty obvious that the rear end is squatting at high speeds - turn on the tyre load indicator to check ;)). And don't forget in real life the Veyron's 407 km/h top speed can only be attained by inserting a special key to put the car in 'top speed mode'. You can't do that in-game (the rear wing does retracts at 370 km/h, but more changes occur in real life).

Now, in real life, these cars may produce these amounts of downforce, but I bet most of them comes from underbody 'ground effects', which contributes little drag compared to downforce from a spoiler/wing. In GT5, I think they only modelled downforce & drag as if they all come from spoilers, so the increased drag means these cars have truncated top speeds :indiff:

The Gallardo & Enzo can reach their top speeds easily because they have none or very little downforce as stock (2 front & rear for Enzo). But this is also a mess up by PD because in real life these cars does produce quite a lot of downforce. Which explains why the Enzo handles so crap in-game.

Unfortunate really, but we know that PD's aero physics are a bit wonky :indiff:

Hm, thx for clarifying.
