I've pretty much decided I'm gonna pick up an 360 around Christmas, and I figure I'll get three or so games for it. Which ones should I look for so I can have kind of a balanced selection to play during break? Gears of War is one I know... FEAR maybe?

Will you have xboxlive?? Its a must if you have the 360 so I assume yes. You already plan on getting GOW so I would say you definetly need Rainbow Six Vegas and make sure you get Test Drive Unlimited. Those 2 games are a must buy for the 360 if you have xboxlive. You can also check out this thread that is listed with quite a few opinions of good and bad games. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=84692
There really are a lot of great games to pick from on the 360. If you like zoo tycoon, roller coaster tycoon, Age of Empires 3, or sims then you will probably also like Viva Pinata for the 360.

I'd get Gears, then download the demos of games you're interested in from the Marketplace to help narrow your decision (as long as you buy the premium 360 and have online). Dead Rising, Test Drive: Unlimited, PGR3, Rainbow Six Vegas, G.R.A.W., and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion are all good bets.

1. Rainbow Six Las Vegas
2. Dead Rising
3. Test Drive Unlimited / Call of Duty 3 (can't decide)

BTW, These are the things i put on my x-mas list along with the xbox 360 itself.

I heard Call of Duty 3 wasn't too great. Everything I've read about Gears of War though has been positively gushing, so you may want to consider that.

Call of Duty 3 isn't as good as CoD2, not to mention that the Wii and PS3 versions suck, but on the X360 it's a very good title.

Ps3 verison is the same as the 360 verison so how does it suck, From people who actually played it they like every bit of it. Anyway....

1:Hextic
2:Hextic
3:Ridge Racer 6

I heard Rainbow Six Vegas is a really good game. People say that the multiplayer mode is really fun. Test Drive Unlimited is also a good choice. It's a lot of fun if you like to cruise the city of Hawaii with exotic cars like Enzo Ferrari, Saleen S7 and much more.

That still doesnt mean the game sux extreme car. Geez.... "Not as good" is the better discription. And coming from people who havent played it. Like you always tell me Duck play it before you judge it. When I say they are the same, same gameplay, same story same art direction same game basically. But to the person who owns all systems then of course the 360 version is the better choice.

All I was going on was 1up.com's rating of something like 5.5. It may be good, but judging from that, there are better games.

Call of Duty 2 online is meant to be better than Call of Duty 3 online and the Call of Duty 3 single player is meant to be better than number two. I have guys on my FL who have played COD2 for AGES, then they get COD3 and say its just not the same game :indiff:

Top three:

1. Gears of War
2. Test Drive Unlimited
3. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

------

Still recommendable:

4. Dead Rising
5. Call of Duty 2
6. Project Gotham Racing 3
7. Battlefield 2
8. Saints Row
9. Kameo

It's surprising how there isn't many bad 360 games out there... yet.

Gears of war definetly. All other games are debatable and depends on personal taste. The 360 needs more must have games.

I was dissapointed with PGR3. Its not as good as 2 IMO.
TDU is good, but not that good. The game can become tedious after a while.
Pro Evo 6 is great fun online if your into football/soccer, but teh graphics are crap.
Saints Row isnt all that, for some reason GTA is just much more fun to play.

And thats all the games Ive got. Like some of the guys have said your best bet is to rent the ones that interest you before giving away your hard earned cash.

In no particular order the best 3 360 games this year imo have been...
Pro Evo 6
Test Drive Unlimited
Rockstar Table tennis.

Ok - Heres my recommendations,

1. Battlefield 2 (to me the most enjoyable online shooter there is!).

2. Project Gotham (had loads of fun with this game especially cat and mouse online, TDU has weird driving physics - however i do still recommend it).

3.Test Drive Unlimited (We're all here cos we love racing games and this one is extremely enjoyable, however as i said before - it did take a bit of getting used with the physics).

Alot of people i see love gears of war - to be honest i paid £50 for it and have had it in the console less than 5 times, i just cannot get into it at all, 1st thing i was let down with was the fact it is a 3rd person shooter :( i hadnt looked into it before i bought it - graphics are good tho. Alot of times i played it online the host would kick me off a match A. if i had been better than him or B. he had set up the match with sniper rifles and i got there 1st, leaving him without.

Maybe i need to play it more......

Now - the three games i have recomended and i'm sure most people will agree with me here are 3 titles that even after playing them for days and days you can stick them back in the console and have as much fun as before!

If you play in the ranked matches, the host does not have the option to boot anybody, or any other options aside from initial setup of the game and when to start it. If you are getting the message that you've lost connection to the host, then it is due to a poor connection. I've never played in the non-ranked matches, but I'd assume the host has boot powers in that area, so maybe that is what you meant.

As far as my reccommended games go, I'd say Gears for a full priced game, and COD2 and PGR3 for budget games as the price has dropped on those. Great value for $20-30. I'd recommend Oblivion also, good for about 100 hrs of play once you get into it.

And thats the thing that sells games. "Hearsay". So many people tell other people to buy so they do.

How else am I supposed to know if a game's good? If I've never played any games yet and everyone is saying "GEARS OF WAR IS THE BEST GAME EVER", and it's in a genre that I like, I'm gonna take their word for it.

The thing about Gears of War is that it's going to give you about 3-4 playthroughs. And that's pretty much only because you're going for achievment points and trying to beat it on harder difficulty's. The reward just isn't there.

Then you look to multiplayer, and you want to get excited, but the lack of options / modes / maps / weapons really makes it difficult to make it last longer than a month.

With that said, if you're easily entertained and graphics can do it for you, Gears is definately a good purchase. If you're looking more for something with a bit more content, I'd look away from gears, and possibly Give Rainbow 6 Vegas a try.

Gears just doesn't sell me, it looks good, and that's why it pushes so many copies.

I'm not so much for the "modes/variables/maps/etc" camp then I am for the sheer visceral experience of it. If a game is really really fun, even if it may be short, I want it.

Vegas does look good though, and it's something I'll definitely consider.

Well, that was the thing for me, it was fun. But only for so long. I mean, the game is extremely good looking (though still not as good as we were originally lead on to believe) but it plays pretty much like anything you've played before, just visually pleasing beyond anything you have played, or will play, for the next few months.

On the flip side, you have to think, it's $60 your tossing around, and I'm the type of guy who likes to invest my money where it will last. Gears if fun, very amazing visually, but if you're going to get it, stretch it out and make it last, becuase it was very easy for me to get burnt out on it. Co-Op was the games saving grace, without it, I really don't think it would be much more than a rent in my opinion.

I still think R6V is the better purchase of the two.

Sorry, never gave my top 3.....

1. Gears of War (Brilliant with a few friends)
2. Project Gotham Racing 3 (Best online community on Xbox Live IMO)
3. Test Drive: Unlimited (Great fun)

if you can its always best to rent first, i rent 90% of the games i play because its just not possible (for me) to buy them all.

top 3 for me would be:

RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS

TIGER WOODS 2007

TEST DRIVE: UNLIMITED

depends on what kind of games you like...

but

FPS:
RainbowSix VEgas
Ghost Recon
Gears of War

RPG:
Blue Dragon
Enchanted Arms

Racing:
PGR3
TestDrive Unlimited

Others:
HItman Blood Money
Condemned
Table Tennis

I only have 3 games now, sold all the rest, so the remainders are my top 3.

1.) PGR3
2.) TDu
3.) Amped 3

Dissapointed by Dead Rising, the mission structure sucked all the fun out of it.

Oblivion was just too uneventful early on.

Most Wanted looked amazing in HD, but lacked any thrills.

Pro Evo 6 was duly returned for being cut to the bare bones.

Fifa World Cup. Utterly simple, I won the World Cup as Malta on Semi-Pro!
