Toro Rosso Lineup

they were supposed to announce it 3 weeks ago on a thursday.... they did announce their new manager though. Could they be delaying becuase if honda quits STR might pick up jenson button?

Any news on when the announcement is?

I just hope seabass gets another season he has potential to do better.

Erm, last I heard, they weren't ever "supposed" to annouce it. They actually said they will annouce it at a later date, but never said when.

I think the exact words were:
Toro Rosso
it had imposed no deadline for when an announcement would be made.

They are no doubt delaying because they are seeing if Bourdais can find backing of some kind or if the team can find some other form of money, as this is their only reason for dropping him.
I doubt they will ever pick up Button, he seems to be more of a money-drain than anything and if they want experience, they're better off hiring Sato or Barrichello.

Maybe we'll see a changing of the guard in terms of how well Indycar drivers do in F1. Indycars are quite spartan on the aero aids, whereas Formula One has always come with the aero devices attached. I imagine that would make for quite a different driving experience.

Maybe, but Bourdais really needs to get in gear this year if he wants any chance of sticking around, he was promising last season and I certainly became a fan of him but this year he needs to start scoring points more consistently though I will put this down to his bad luck for most of the year and also he was paired with a teammate who completely outshined him in every respect.
So far though, he hasn't done much better than previous IndyCar drivers (ignoring Jacques, because he did just get plonked into the best car on the grid and we saw what he was really capable of in later years).

The vast new rule changes may unsettle the field a bit though, but its not going to make it easier for Sebastien, he once again has to adapt to a completely new car and rules.

Jacques performances at William and then at BAR shows just how crucial the car is to a drivers fortunes.

Find yourself in the wrong team and your F1 career is over before it's started.

How many other race series is a drivers fate so closely linked to the car he drives?

That is only partially true. Apart from JV and Hamilton (at least in recent years), all great F1 drivers started their F1 careers with real crappy or - to some lucky ones - midfield cars. And it was there that they showed what they were capable of.

I don't forget the amazing races of Ayrton Senna in a Toleman, or Schumacher at Jordan, then Bennetton. True talent reveals itself in the crappiest of cars. Even JV's father, Gilles, started his F1 career in a outdated McLaren, made a very impressive qualifying and that made Enzo Ferrari notice him. We all know the rest.

You have an example of this in the 2008 season: Vettel

Also (now concerning the JV example), a really, really good driver can be champion and then move to a car that isn't the best, and still show that he is a champion because of his own skill, not the car he drives. Take Schumacher as an example, when he moved to Ferrari. Or Senna, when McLaren lost their dominance. These guys were better then the cars they were driving.

You also have an example of this in the 2008 season: Alonso

Oh I agree, however, if a driver is truly good, then he can still show his worth in crappy machinery when he has the chance. Jacques never really did this at BAR, Renault, Sauber or BMW Sauber.
Look at past champions and they have had notable races where they out-did themselves in machinery that shouldn't be doing so well.

But whatever, other than Jacques, Bourdais hasn't really surpassed any other Indy Car driver's score yet.

The fact that they are using slicks and less aero will be a huge gain for sebastien becuase of his champ car experience on that setup... since hes already had a full season of f1 experience I think we can all expect him to do much better... To be honest I think he might be able to contend with vettel if STR has a great car.

They'll have the same car ;)

Does anyone know when STR are launching their car? Or if they're even in the process of making it?

Well, its going to be after the RB5 launch ;)
Like Alex said, probably March testing along with Force India and the ever-fading-but-still-possible-"Honda" entry.

As you can see, not far off Button and ahead of Di Grassi, but nothing spectacular (what can you expect from the Honda '08?). Keep in mind that the times for the other cars are not what they may seem, as some teams were testing KERS and other things that week.
So far, I still agree with Gerhard Berger that he needs more experience in GP2 first, when he's won that maybe he can try a seat in F1, but so far he hasn't impressed so much.

Yea i agree with your, maybe one more season in gp2, and also if he does drive in f1, it would be interesting if honda picks him up, and wins the championship hahahaha. Im sure there are alot of people willing to sponsor him due to his uncle's legacy, specially in brazil.

But this year would be interesting since every one is in the same level due to the new rules.
