Anyone got this game? My copy will be here at the end of the month. (Right when my college semester ends, yay!)

I can play on the very lowest settings, but I'm probably going to need a new system to appreciate the game. Let me know in this thread if you have the game so that I can compile a list so that everyone can battle each other online.

Good god that game has written WIN all over it! Blast, now I want to buy it! Too bad my game won't be able to handle it most probably. What specs are you running Omnis?

If I'm able to get my hands on a new laptop next year, this game will be first in line to be bought. But first things first, I GOT to find Sins of Solar Empire first. Last time I visited the shops I was 2 days late after it sold-out :irked:

A 2ghz core 2 duo laptop with pitiful cpu cache. And then I think a 7000 or 8000 series mobile nvidia gpu. Not sure... I'll check when I get home.

But, if I stick it on shader model 2 with lowest settings and small unit sizes, it runs pretty smoothly.

I've been thinking about this, played the demo and enjoyed it but I'm still not sure on it yet. I'm kind of waiting for Steam to have a sale on it so I don't have to pay $49.99 for it.

Yeah, I went ahead and got the special forces edition. I'm a sucker for art books and I couldn't pass up the Corso Terrestre Guerrillas.

I'm toying with the idea of buying this, it looks quite time consuming and I already have a couple of time consuming games that I don't spend enough time with to get the best from them. I probably will buy it, I like stratergy games and I enjoyed Rome even though I never progressed very far in it.

Special Forces edition is a huge let down. I was expecting a nice art book like the one that came with my guild wars special editions. Instead, it's like an instruction manual with game art in it. What a ripoff.

So, anyone playing Empire?
I have enjoyed it, but my God! It has to be the buggiest most incomplete and under-developed game I've ever played on the PC. Visit the Total War forums to see what I mean, unless you've experienced these bugs for yourself.
A couple of things I did not like.
1. Steam. I don't like Steam. It basically becomes another thing that can go wrong. If it does you have to really know about PC's to work out theproblem as it's never obvious.
2. No multi-core CPU support (at launch). This has been put right since the latest patch-
This update includes the implementation of multi-threading in the game for multi-core processors
But, as far as I know still no Sli or Crossfire support.
3. Poor performance with Nvidia cards. There are several graphical glitches that I have which have yet to be fixed.
4. Random CTD's. There have been lots, and lots, and lots on my PC caused by a large variety of bugs many which have yet to be fixed.
5. The AI on the campaign is poor. Rarely do they actually attack and they NEVER attack by sea. This may have been put right in a patch but I have yet to see it.
6. Bugs in the Battles. Horse Artillery can often continually limber and unlimber and do nothing else. Artillery will also fire on routing troops whilst ignoring those directly ahead of them.
7. Bugs in general. Including a CTD when merging fleets, moving armies, attacking cities and on AI turns.
And the list could go on. Such a shame because in many respects I do really like the game. It looks pretty good and there's a nice selection of troop types and sea battles are a nice addition. But to be honest if there's anyone thinking of getting the game I'd wait until the end of the year. By then the game may actually be finished.

Actually, the only bug I've experienced while playing the game is that regiments sometimes don't face the right direction when you increase rank. If they have to run left to decrease file to 3 lines, they will face that left direction indefinitely once they've lined up 3 deep. I think this has something to do with the regiment waiting for stray men (who may have been dragged WAY out while in battle, or are dead) to line up with them. It's really stupid.

Other than that, I've not had any sort of bug so I think everyone is crazy when they have hissy fits about bugginess. I can see how it can be super annoying though. I stopped playing because I pretty much beat all the single player stuff and the multiplayer is ridiculous. The maps are so unbalanced. Any competent player will win depending on which side of the map he starts on. The best map is Cuba, but nobody plays Cuba. Everyone only plays maps with insane high ground advantage. Like I said, if you start on high ground, you have to be asleep and have all your men off of fire at will in order to lose.

It has a real problem on my system for some reason...

I've only tried the demo, but it literally refuses to load, it gets to the main menu after a long wait, but when you go to load a level it thinks about it for maybe five to ten minutes (as the bar progresses) and when it gets to the end the game just locks up... (but manages to play sounds for some reason). It's not like my system can't handle it; Q6600 (@ default 2.4GHz), 3GB DDR2 RAM, GTX260 896MB (216 stream processors version, overclocked).

Really annoyed it won't play :grumpy:

reinstall it. I'm playing on a laptop and it works fine for me.

Got Napoleon TW a couple days ago. It's so much better than Empire. It doesn't have the Americas, but that makes for an easier and more manageable campaign. Still, I loved the American theater in Empire. Here's my first youtube video of one of my battles in the campaign mode:

Also, Shogun 2 Total War is coming out next year. It looks SOOOOO fresh.

Shogun 2 drops today. Go download the demo-- it's amazing. This game is going to take over my world when I'm not studying. Pre-med chemistry and Shogun 2, it's a wonderful life. 0% chance of any girl accusing me of getting her pregnant.

Uuaaaaahhhhh!!! This game is so awesome! They totally fixed the naval battles. They're much simpler and not a complete pain in the ass like in Empire and Napoleon. In those games, you had to be like an actual freaking admiral with formal naval training. This one is much more fun.

What a huge difference between this and all the other games.

Man, the Uesugi campaign is SO DAMN HARD. If you try to take over Honma (it has gold mines), you wind up getting screwed in the butt by Hojo after you battered army returns to the mainland. Also, Takeda runs wild and will form an alliance with Hojo. I'm about to restart this whole damn campaign because I can't see how I'm going to beat this the way it is. My prediction is that Hojo will expand east and Takeda will expand west. I'd have to try to wipe out Takeda in the first round or two of the game, because Shingen and his boys just fly across the map conquering city after city.

The whole reason I used Uesugi in the first place was because, (a) they have great colors and (b) they have great warrior monks. It's just too bad that warrior monks suck against arrows as much as they do. I mean, they REALLY are soft targets. One arrow volley will take out half a unit. Props for anyone who can beat the Uesugi campaign.

If anyone wants to do a co-op campaign, post in this thread.

Tried the demo of Shogun 2 although I can't really enjoy it because I suck so bad. Any help would be appreciated. Or is it not too different from medieval in terms of tactics and I was just being a noob last night?

Edit tried it again and actually doing ok and starting to enjoy it. Maybe it was just last night. Still can't get my head round castle attacks though its quite different to european warfare.

I am good at medieval 2 although thats bug ridden such as the money seeming to be random as my projections and end of turn reports are always wrong ie the stated tresurey total is not how much I actually have yes buildings can explain some of that but I am not entirely convinced as it has shown a loss that turn and yet I have more money than before. It may be my build list after all

Also some of the battles are broken such as the game actually not letting re enforcements onto the battlefield and other wierd bugs and if you quit battle it will just generate random losses even though you havent engaged.

Help in getting round those bugs would also be appreciated.

Sorry to bump an old thread with a double post after completly derailing it because I thought it was a general total war game thread. :guilty:

I just got the game and I have a bit of an issue. The game is linked to steam even if you get a disk. (Or is there another reason I got a steam key with the disk? Box says I need a steam account.) I am hoping to get a new PC soon so I am wondering if I install the game on my current PC will I be able to install the game again on my new one once I have steam downloaded without needing a new steam key? (I will be using same steam account on both PC's though.)
