... They are pretty soild trucks. ...

The only thing I think of to tell you to watch out for is the front differential and the head gaskets, I hear about those things going around 130k miles. But just get them inspected and you'll be fine.

:odd:

:D

Well as soild as a truck thats 13 years old can be, but they go only when you don't take care of the truck. Hell mini truckers beat the livin hell out of there trucks and most of them are S-10's and Blazer's.

Can't beat a 4.3...

Unless you get a 350!

Congrats on the Truck!

Isn't the 4.3 a 350 with 2 cylinders hacked off?

I strongly recommend a Turbo Volvo. See my avatar? Even with all that boost running through the engine I still didn't blow a head gasket or throw a rod! :dopey:

w00t! You got a Blazer! That thing will last forever, I've seen guys with 1990 Blazer with almost 300k miles on it. They are pretty soild trucks. I'm glad you got a 4.3 though considering every other motor for the S-Trucks sucked.

I second that, I also know many people that can attest to the reliability of that engine.

I have a 4.3 in my van, bought it with 76k miles in July 2003, I now have 155k miles on it (lol I travel alot) and its still truckin. No smoke or anything while running or on startup, Outside of routine maintenance all Ive had to replace is a starter, and thats a 10 minute fix that you can easily do yourself. Hands down the most reliable vehicle Ive ever owned.

There is still ALOT of life left in that truck if its got less than 100k miles on it. Sounds like you got a great deal.

EDIT...looks like you guys missed his post on the last page, he already got a Blazer, because he basically needs it for light off road driving.

You'll like this: at the strip Wednesday night, I ran a 15.950 @ 89mph in our (bone stock) '96 850 Turbo sedan. According to the best website ever the stock time is 15.3 @ 94, but that's for a vehicle weighing 3278 pounds (mine weighed in at 3475) with Z tires (I have H - with 60% tread). Based on that, I feel that ten years after production, the car still has the potential for a stock run.

Excellent job!

Definitely! :D I have yet to take my car to the track, but I can't at the moment... I have to fix my boost "problem" first (avatar again :sly: ).

By the way, I love your site, but it's missing one vital ingredient:

My car! Where's the 740?! :dopey:

Let's just say it's not hard to find decent 740s in good condition. If yours has a stock exterior, could you send me a picture? (PM of course)

By the way, according to the tach, our Volvo didn't shift until 5900rpm - peak is 5280 and redline is 6100. Wonder if it's a sign the transmission's not going to be with me much longer.

As soon as I can get my digital camera to work, definitely.

Not necessarily. Shift points vary all the time. My 740 will shift at as low at as low 5,000 rpm at full throttle, sometimes as high as ~5,700 rpm. I can't do that now, of course... (avatar... :dopey: )

Dude, you are the Mecca of opposites. Your user name refers to BMW, you work in Nissan and love Volvos... unless, of course, the Nissan thing is a fantasy as your birthdate was a while ago :)

So the transmission's fine - I guess my problem with it is that the vehicle produces peak power at 5280rpm, meaning anything past that isn't good for acceleration - I'd rather have it shift exactly where it's supposed to, for that reason.

I have no idea what the **** you're talking about but I suggest doing a little research before making bull**** like this up and having everyone think twice about my posts now. You and posts like this are the reason I'm completely sick of this forum. In four words: shut the **** up. Take Young_Warrior with you. Asshole.

if you'll refer to the past argument we had about the Mustang sales a while ago (maybe february), in which I asked if you were a Taurus because of how stubborn, and you later changed your birthdate so as not to be a Taurus. Oh, here it is

Anyway, I was only kidding, if you can't take a joke, **** you and the modem you logged in on... I make one funny reference and you just jump on me as if I've hurt your child, if you even have one. I kind of expected an answer like that since that's just the type of guy you are, Doug; making fun of everyone all the time and the moment someone makes the slightest remark about something you said, it's bloody murder.

Seriously, check back and you'll see I've never insulted you (prior to this post) nor dissed you, but you've called me stupid, asshole, told me to **** myself and probably other things too. Moreover, I know you won't answer to this post, since that's also the type of guy you are: you make one big argument and then ignore the outcome of it, and start changing the subject.

I'm not going to take this matter forward, at least not in this thread... that's enough off topic conversation and frankly, I think the mods have a sweeter spot for you than for me, and that'll guarantee me a(nother) warning. Still, I think this thread's question was already answered/covered.

you dips wanna collapse this thread on me??!
knock it off, and save your flamewar for something else.

i've seen ONE Volvo around here...that's it

Trouble in Paradise: while doing my job and running my clients home, I had a nasty case of "conk"...it wouldn't turn over untill it sat for a while..untill I threw it into Drive instead of Overdrive. I got it back to a gas station without a stall. when I threw a carb and injector cleaner in, that did it. other than a dud fuse (it looked old enough to be an OEM fuse), so far so good

thanks for the warning on the head and diff gaskets...it should last a bit...dealship serviced :P only 90k on the thing!!

the vehicle has an enhanced 4.3 (the intake plenum has Vortec on it) and the Tahoe package

You may or may not be the single stupidest person I've ever encountered. I said in that thread and I'll say again. My god damn birthday is May 22. That makes me a Gemini. I changed my birthday? Good call, idiot. Why don't you go look up old birthday threads for me and see if I changed it? Jesus Christ. You lay **** like this on me and can't even realise that maybe you were wrong. YOU ARE THE REASON PEOPLE LEAVE THESE FORUMS, myself now happily included.

With an attitude like that, I'm suspicious of the "1977" part more than "May 22" part....

I hear ya... but let's get back on topic before we get further a-flamed....

I'm assuming this "newer" car you got Sniffs is more permanent than the past ones, or do you still need a tougher cookie car suggestion?

If you have any questions about the Blazer I can more then likely answer them.

i do have a quest...or two
i noticed it lacks the "third brake light", which had allready been required for something like five years...is there a way to retrofit one?

where's the Adjustment screws for the Roof Rails? I can't find them, and i might need em (i'm actually getting "utility" out of a sport utility vehicle  )

my alloys are peeling (plastic coated)...is there a good resto product you can reccomend?

i need a good grease for all the locks, hinges, etc (not to Non GMers: GM products are notorious for stiff body hardware and mechanical rods and levers that tend to pop out of their mountings). in plain english, no OEM pars numbers, please.

thanks

Go to a junk yard or onto www.s10forum.com and get and LED thrid brake light from a 2nd gen and just attach it. Run the wire for the trailer hitch harness for brakes and bingo your good as gold.

Not sure on the adjustments, but on the rims I would say the best thing to do is use a Mother's polish or some sorts. But with the peeling plastic I'm not sure.

Ask on www.s10forum.com, they will be more then happy to help you out.

I'm not saying he isn't. In fact, I usually read up his car subjects, since he seems quite knowledgeable on it. Unfortunately, that made him unable to see other people's views... or at least mine, no matter how much backup I had. Anyway, I didn't mean for him to get mad and leave, I just answered in the same fashion I was addressed.

Still, back to the truck. Does U.S. law require a third brake light? Or it's just something you want to put on it? On the grease subject, I've heard you can put some Vaseline on the parts so as to prevent them from rusting... or at least delay the process a bit.

Blazin: yup, polished the crap out of the whole thing with Mothers, actually, three hours to do it, too. but the wheels are in no state to take a polish..the plastic coating is split around the lugnuts, and one wheel is down to bare aluminum. as for the third...only if I run it on top of the wing.

Diego: third brake lights have been required by america's safety gurus...one of the reasons america stes shuch crap milage even out of a 4 cylinder is that the car's carrying reinforcements, extra lights, airbags up the wazoo...and standard air conditioning

truck class vehicles are no longer excluded...and all that extra weight screws our fuel ratios up
