Ok, as you guys probably know I was on vacation for the month of December. Now that I'm back, I'm behind in my homework. The bad part is; I have mid-term exams in two weeks, I'm now failing 50% of my subjects, I have over 10-15 tests/quizzes to make up for all of my classes put together.

I'm confused and stressed out. How can I do all that and still have enough time to study for my mid-terms. :nervous:

It's 6:02AM here, when I posted this, I haven't posted on GTP for the past 2 days, I only got back 3 days ago. :scared: I can assure you I've completely stopped watching television.

I'm worried that I'm going to fail the school year. :(

Eliminate any games that you are playing and dont come to GTP any more until you get caught back up. Make sure to "unsubscribe" to all your threads in here that way you dont keep getting them in your e-mail.
Good luck. Get a tutor if necessary. If you are lucky she will be a hot one. Wait that could be a worse distraction.

Jeeze, didn't your parents realize that such a long vacation would impact your school work so heavily? Get into a study group if you can. But since you're in high school, that might be a bad idea.

Yes, High School study groups are not a good idea. At all. You will get no work done whatsoever.

First thing is first.

Chill.

I know very few people who can do more work while frantic, worried, stressed and scared. Breathe in, breathe out. Take a break and enjoy a video game, listen to some music and draw or whatever you can to relax. When you feel relaxed, get back to work.

Don't think of the big picture. The big picture is big and scary. Instead, thing of the smaller pictures that make up the larger one. Complete each of those, one at a time. Just keep plugging away. If you feel yourself being overwhelmed again, relax.

However, in the future, prepare for these sort of things. Make sure you follow through. I know about this well. I have to go in and apologize to my boss in an hour and tell him why certain things didn't get done on time. Bleh.

That's not too bad:

1 school year: 50% failed = 4 failed classes
1 semester: 50% failed = 2 failed classes.

You can make those up in the summer, or just stay an extra year and take the classes over again, and get more credits. Many people I know stay another year anyway, simply because graduating at 17/18 feels a little too young, so they just stick around and get credits. People in the workplace see this as a sign of discipline and maturity. Don't be so freaked out. If worse comes to worse you'll lose a month out of your summer each year.

If that was our school your parents would be in jail by now, because of your long absence, but the school would just have you make up the tests or classes that you failed in the summer, if you don't pass them now.

Every time I've been in one all we do is argue about what's being tested...

Last one I was at, we spent 45 minutes playing with my iRiver. Then we went to Borders to read Afficionado Magazine... :indiff:

Why on Earth would the parents be in jail for taking a long vacation?

1) Prepare better. Teachers always prefer that before you go on vacation, you ask them if you can take any assignments and what not in advance, and if there's anything you'll be allowed to skip.

2) Turn off all distractions, and Just Do It™. While it may be horribly unpleasant, it won't kill you to work 12 hours a night on homework/studying and cut out much of your sleep time. I've had to do it before… I had a straight two weeks where I was getting less than 4 hours of sleep a night due to a ridiculous homework load, and on the last night I got less than 2 hours of sleep. The next day I had a massive headache, but at least everything got done. Sometimes life sucks, and you just have to work your way out of it.

amen to that. Sometimes it seems like i can only do homework at night. Maybe it's because of the pressure or something. Fun fact: you can die of sleep deprevation before you die of hunger! Hunger = couple weeks. Death from lack of sleep? 10 straight days!

You're my new best friend.

Seriously, I have many friends quit jobs or get upset and slack off because they're not getting what they want, or the job sucks at that point and time.

Just last night I had my first proper sleep since I came back. The night before, I woke up at 1:00AM in the morning and couldn't sleep. I worked my arse of from 3:30PM-1:00AM the next night, managed to drop in 6 hours of sleep before waking up. I think I'm making progress, now the problem is I have to study for each and everyone one of those tests, and keep in mind that I'm studying for the mid-terms also.

It's really frustrating, I feel like punching walls.

Edit: I don't start recieving credits till Grade 10, which is next year, so thats something I'm not worried about. But I was talking to my teacher and he said, if you fail a course this year it will go on your DP? I think that means if I want to take that course again next year, I have to take the Grade 9 version of it. Unless, I can do it in summer-school. :scared:

Well, lately I've been seriously considering being a teacher (laugh if you want), so I don't think so. ;)

If you can get away with 6 hours of sleep a night and still get all of your work done in a timely fashion, then keep doing it… but just keep in mind that if you're homework load's still too large, you can get away with 4 hours a night and still be mostly functional. It's unhealthy, but priorities are priorities. Again though, if 6 hours is giving you enough time, more power to you.

Also, if your teachers don't mind (or if you're really good at being sneaky), then try doing work during class. If I'm crammed with work, and my teacher's not saying anything important, I'll do work from another class. It's disrespectful, but only if they notice. ;)

I had a talk with my teachers and my homework( atleast most of it) has been excused. The homework will be given an OMIT mark, which is the class average. I just have to fill-in the tests/quizzes next week.

  1. Math Test 1
  2. Socials Quiz 1
  3. Science Quiz 1
  4. Science Test 1
  5. Spanish Test 1
  6. Spanish Quiz 1
  7. Spanish Quiz 2
  8. Gym Test 1

That is a large difference from before. 👍

I'm so suprised you never talked to your teachers before going away, sorry to say it but that was really stupid. Good to hear you've lessonned your workload.

Really, that's cool though. I was considering switching from an engineering major to a teaching major for a while, and I still may do it at the beginning of next year.

It's a noble job though, the world could always use more good teachers. 👍

I could always go the route a number of math/science teachers go… get an engineering job or the like at some big company for a few years, get bored or mad, and then start teaching. :D (My current physics teacher used to be an engineer at JPL.) Teaching is something I've been considering for a long time, and it's something I can see myself doing… last semester I tutored an Algebra student who was getting a D in her class, and brought her up to a solid A.

It's actually a floor hockey skills test, but it's still a test. :p
:indiff:

That's almost as bad as my school was in year 10, being assessed on how well you can dance
