A friend and I were talking earlier about the British Touring Car Championship, and thought it might be interesting to create a kind of equivalent series for GT5. We think it would be quite good for several reasons: VERY close racing, good variety of cars and drivetrains, relatively low car setup costs.
The current regulations for the BTCC involve a power output of around 300bhp, and a weight of around 1150kg. The WTCC have similar figures. However, they only allow 2 litre normally aspirated engines. We thought it would be good to allow greater variety of engine type and aspiration (allowing a much greater variety of machines).
I did a small experiment with a Citroën C4 VTS (295bhp, 1155kg) and a Mustang GT (296bhp/1330kg). Full racing parts package, hard racing tyres. Took them both around Trial Mountain, both did around 1.35-1.36, very close considering the weight difference.
I would do a list of eligible car models, but there're so many I honestly can't be bothered! I envisage two classes: Saloon class (TC300), 300bhp 1150kg; and Hot Hatch class (TC240), 240bhp 950kg (a Mini Cooper (236bhp 1030kg) did 1.37-1.38). TC300 has a slightly better power-to-weight ratio than TC240, which is quite appropriate.
If something like this has already been devised, please refer me to the relevant thread, if there is one.
We'll be doing some more tests to see how they race, including online spot-races. The lobby name will most likely be "TOURING CARS (TC300)/(TC240)", or similar. Just posted this to try and guage the interest out there - hoping it could be popular! I'm sure there are plenty of people who agree than decent racing doesn't depend on a mountain of horsepower...
