Apparently it was being towed behind an RV and they left it in park when they started the trip.

Wait. What, seriously? Judging by the damage they must've travelled a very big distance with that car. Surely they must've noticed something was wrong?

Golden Rule #1 for living on Planet Earth: Never underestimate the power of stupidity. ;)

I'm surprised the tranny sump got through it mostly unscathed. the engine sump didn't even survive.

That's gotta epic suck.

Heh, that reminds me of the time I was driving around town unknowingly with the handbrake on.

How did you NOT notice that in your Matiz?

Ehhh then again... It has no power so I guess you wouldn't feel it getting slower.

You'd think someone would have told them.

I'm assuming that if the horrible screeching, clouds of smoke, showers of sparks, and general balkiness of the tow itself didn't clue them in, people honking their horns and yelling would also have escaped their notice.

i don't see a problem here...i ride razor scooters that have wheels like that all the time! which clearly means this car is going to work just fine!!!

/sarcasm

It's not the first time someone's done this either...

It happened with an Explorer Sport Trac IIRC. Same deal; getting towed behind an RV in park.

Man oh man, that is stupidity at it's finest, then refined and perfected for all to see. 500 miles aswell.....someone take this guys licence NOW!!

How loud does your music and RV have to be to NOT hear metal dragging behind you for 500 miles?! I'd imagine the tires were gone were after 5

The 500 miles is a number I arbtrarily made up. I have no idea how far that actually took.

Well, you would be surprised...an RV's almost impossible to hear anything else in, it's that well isolated. And you probably wouldn't feel much difference, that's how much torque it has.

But everyone else behind them probably knew....especially after five quarts of oil dropped onto the pavement...

Between an RV and a Vue, the owners were probably pretty old. And in my experiences on the road, old people aren't all that good at noticing things.

Well, don't that just take the cake?
I had a better response, but it was outside the guidelines of the AUP.

I bet it was an older RV without the new rear-view camera. I would like to have seen it in motion (at Night) sparks sparks and lots more sparks.

Well hey, if they ever got lost, the oncoming lanes have a nice trail to follow home
