Toyota Motorsport has today announced that it has signed a multi-year deal with Bridgestone Motorsport which will see the Japanese tyre manufacturer supply the Panasonic Toyota Racing team with Potenza Formula 1 tyres with immediate effect.

Chairman of Toyota Motorsport and Team Principal of Panasonic Toyota Racing, Tsutomu Tomita said of the announcement: “It is a pleasure to announce that Toyota Motorsport and Bridgestone Motorsport have joined forces. I am sure that our two companies will share a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship over the coming years in Formula 1. After a rather successful 2005 season, our sights are now set even higher up the grid and we feel that Bridgestone is ideally suited to the technical demands of F1 in the future and will be the best match for our 2006 car. Toyota is serious about winning in Formula 1 and we feel that the switch to Bridgestone tyres is the best option in the medium to long term.”

Panasonic Toyota Racing’s first test on Bridgestone tyres will begin at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on 29 November 2005.

nice to have a japanese car run on japanese tires. Toyota should benefit from using bridgestones because they are allowing tire changes again.

and in case michellin pulls out of the 2006 US grand prix, toyota will still race :sly:

Then it comes down to the car, which, in the case of Toyota, is a pretty awesome car (no doubt the TF106 will be too).

with tire changes and more teams on bridgestone, i kinda'
wish they had kept the v10's for one more season. to see
how things would play out when the playing field (in terms
of tires) is leveled a bit.

renault, mclaren, ferrari, toyota, honda dukin' it out. oh boy!

They won't. Not with double the teams testing for them.

What? Toyota have sold their soul?

...okay, hondaboy.

i was talking about ferrari. they run the same tires toyota will be running. i was saying that ferrari sold their soul to be so fast and now its coming back to bite them with the tires.

just a joke.

bridgestone probably wont have a bad year in 06. They were only bad in 05 because tires had to last a whole race and michellins were more durable.

The thing is, in 2005, each tyre had to be tested for three times the distance that they used to so that they could be tested for their entire life-span. So, since Ferrari had no tyre partners, they had to have to test each tyre for 310km. 1 teams miles vs 7 teams miles would never work out in Bridgestones favour – no matter how much Ferrari was testing.

This year each tyre will only have to be tested for a little over 100km, so tyres can be tested much more efficiently and much more data can be collected in one day. Then the four other teams will just help tyre development exponentially!

Look forward to Bridgestone bouncing back in a big way next year.
