I was searching for used Nissan March's on importer web sites, and came across this car. It looks to me that Toyota and Chevrolet once partnered to sell a car in Japan. Either that, or someone is screwing with us... :yuck:

Anyone have any info?

Edit: the car is listed here. Just look in their stock for more info on this particular car.

Actually, they've been partners since the 80's, I believe. Yes, Toyota sold the Cavalier as a Toyota, in Japan. If my memory serves, they still marketed it as an Toyota's "American" car. I do remember that Cavalier ads featured this Japanese comedian(Tokoro George), who's an infamous American car junkie. :D

It's just like the Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Voltz in Japan, but yup a6 got it on the nose.

That makes no sense considering the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe were jointly designed with GM ...

The Prizm is based off the Corolla, IIRC ...

Yes they are the same platform but not the same car, they do sell a Voltz though. It looks like the Vibe in every way, hell all they did was put a billet pontiac emblem on it.

Toyota and GM have a long history: Toyota sold the Cavalier in Asia, and currently sells the Pontiac Vibe as the Toyota Voltz (which, as was pointed out, is odd, since Toyota has their own version of this car called the Matrix, but the Voltz is a re-badged Pontiac version, not the Matrix. I believe it's in GT4).

Toyota and GM have also worked together on small sedans - the 1990-1992 Geo Prizm was a rebadged 1988-1992 Toyota Corolla, as was the 1993-1997 Geo Prizm and 1998-2002 Chevrolet Prizm. When Toyota redesigned the Corolla in 2003, GM opted to work together on the Matrix/Vibe instead of selling a fourth generation of Corolla under GM badging.

Also in Australia almost 10 years ago now Toyota selled rebadged Holden Commodores as the 'Toyota Lexen' (Holden being GM owned). Didnt last for long that one i think.
