Toyota makes the Formula 1 to the test. Internally, there are considerations of whether we should invest the lush F1-Budget 2011 not prefer a return to Le Mans.

The evidence for a Le Mans-compacted commitment for some time. While the 24-race at Le Mans were a dozen engineers from TRD (Toyota Racing Department) on site. Armed with cameras and in civilian clothes, they inspected the competition. On the occasion of the ALMS race in Detroit in late August met with representatives of the envoys Toyota Le Mans ACO promoter.

Well said Toyotateam chief Tadashi Yamashina at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Shanghai: "We would like to go to Le Mans. The final decision depends on the budget for Le Mans. Under present economic conditions, it is unlikely that we Formula 1 and Le Mans parallel make. It runs on an either-or beyond. "

Toyota threatens to withdraw

Threatening Yamashina added: "If the formula comes in a unit of the engine, then we get out safely." Against the background of the introduction of new technology regulations in Le Mans and Formula 1 is clear, therefore, the following scenario: the current F1 engine regulations expected to be renewed after 2012, the existing engines are operational by 2011. At the same time enter into Le Mans 2011 new chassis and engine rules in force.

The F1 track would therefore expire in 2011, while in parallel, the Le is Mans debut - the only problem is to Because his welcome already by 2010 hybrid technology at Le Mans, though the Toyota opponent Honda possibly as early as 2010 a shot at overall victory - a Graus for Toyota.

Therefore, in July this year, tests were converted to hybrid technology with a dome-S102 with Ahira Iida at the wheel on the track at Tokachi instead. The hybrid technology came out of that Supra GT, with the Toyota, the Tokachi 24-hour race in 2007 won. So Toyota is gearing up for the Le Mans entry preferable if needed.

Images of 2010/2011 Dome S102.5, modified with 2011 regulations, could it be the LMP1 that Toyota is working on since last year?

The picture is a photoshopped Dome S102 with a Toyota livery.

Also the article is 2 years old.

I would, however, love to see Toyota back at Le Mans.

It's well known that Toyota are currently looking at WTCC, WRC or DTM. The Avensis is also the new base NGTC for BTCC next year. I can't see them being involved with Le Mans ever again.

Photoshop huh? Looks realistic to me. ;)

Okay I never knew this back then so I had to search up on google if Toyota is returning to le mans next year.

Wish Toyota makes a comeback next year.

;)

Toyota really needs to get back into motorsport so that its brand image can be sportier. Right now we have Siennas and Camrys and FJ Cruisers. Only thing good from Toyota is the LF-A and the IS-F, and they're both Lexuses anyway. Hopefully we get the FT86 soon, a new "Supra" comes out, they decide to enter the Corolla (Auris) into WRC, and we get a Le Mans race from them. Honestly, they need to look better. Priuses aren't cool (no offense to any Prius owners), and you can't race in Tundras (well you could, but would you?) Toyota, tsk, tsk, tsk.

I don't think they're getting involved in WRC. Maybe touring car, LeMans somehow, GT1 (rumored in the other thread from motortrend.com) and F1 with HRT.

And actually, you can apply the same question to America's Big three: Would you race a Chevy Silverado, a Ford F-150 or a Dodge Ram?

Methinks 'Ironman' Ivan Stewart would approve of RACECAR's response. ;)

Don't forget they also have the Cammry brand in the sprint cup series. Maybe Toyota has just gotten tired of road racing and just wants to be American and do some oval racing.

Toyota to sportscar racing would be great. Maybe they felt they have unfinished business from more than ten year ago. The one thing I fear... Toyota usually fields competitive cars in international series, but fail to deliver. Didn't Toyota F1 have one of the largest budgets of all teams, yet failed to win?

I just wonder what would happen if Toyota fails to deliver in sportscar racing with this new effort. If we're talking Le Mans, this could do what the classic GT-One couldn't- win Le Mans. Best of luck to Toyota in whatever international series they take part in.

It's strongly rumoured that the LF-A is going to enter FIA GT1:

Lexus LFA to do Battle with Godzilla in FIA GT1 Series

There were rumors flying around the international press recently that Toyota might return to the World Rally Championship. Well, that won't happen. According to our sources, the company that pulled out of rallying before quitting Formula 1 will not return to WRC. Toyota's motorsport aspirations will instead be realized with its entry into the FIA GT1 Championship, driving -- you guessed it -- the 560 horsepower V-10-powered Lexus LFA.

Having done substantial development time at the Nurburgring, where it competed two years running in the Nurburgring 24-hour race, (finally) winning its SP8 class in 2010, Toyota bosses feel it's time for the LFA to graduate to the big boy league in GT1. Don't expect to see this V10 battling Porsches and Audis around the 'Ring anymore. The only Toyotas to compete in the German endurance races will be the V8-powered Lexus IS F and the Auris.

In a series that is widely considered to be the pinnacle of sports car racing, Toyota will come up against the likes of Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford, Lamborghini, Nissan and Maserati.

But the LFA will no doubt be out to give its Japanese archrival -- the Nissan GT-R -- a run for its money, and that's a car that battled for the checkered flag with the Maserati MC12 twice in the last three races of the GT1 season. LFA drivers will reportedly include Japanese aces Junichi Wakisaka and Takayuki Kino****a as well as a couple of European pilots. Toyota will also be looking to recoup some of the LFA's sizeable R&D costs by racing in the series. That's why we will also see the LFA competing in Japan's GT series. Be sure to keep an eye on the starting grid for next year's Le Mans 24 Hours as well, because the LFA is expected to be there.

So, it seems like Toyota may possibly be heading to Le Mans after all, just in a different class than hoped for/expected ;)

What I, and many others would want to see, is Toyota make a comeback to Le Mans with a new LMP1 car to take on Audi and Peugeot. As well as a LFA in GT

It's unlikely that they'd simply run a modified car adpted to the new LMP1 regulations. Adaptation is compromise. They'd use the Dome S102.5 to get feedback, then built an entirely new car from the ground up using that feedback to build a better car.
