Hi all, im new here and i'd like to kick off with a general car problem of mine that i especially have with the Toyota Minolta 88C-V.

The problem is that when i use Duck7892 his setup for the car, it rides pretty awesome, except that when i get to the higher speeds above 330 km/h, the car gets very unstable and reacts voilently on small steering corrections. Therefore, racing towards your brake-point with nearly 400 km/h is almost impossible since u are almost certainly going to spin off-track when u touch the brakes at those speed. I noticed this problem with other supercars aswell, but with the Nissan R92CP '92 this problem is MUCH smaller. Too bad its got only 5 gears tho.

Now I know its possible to make the Toyota Minolta 88C-V drive very good at high speeds because i saw a video of someone doing a 4:35 lap on the Nurburgring Nordschleife with that same car. His car looked incredibly stable, but i think it was done in arcade mode. Dunno what differences that brings along besides even more HP.

But anyway, does anyone know certain setup tweaks to get rid of that nasty high speed stability-shortage problem without suffering alot of corner and brake speed?

ps. Im using the normal Ps2 analog pad, and i steer with the arrows, and buttons instead of the joysticks. I can do it very precisely so i dont think thats the problem.

Well, I use the DFP, and I never really experienced any stability problems at high speeds when tuning. I don't think using the arrows on the pad is precise, no matter how precise you think you might be. You might want to raise the ride height about 10 clicks or so, and see if that helps. Also, try softening the springs too.

Thanks for telling me 👍 I'll need to go investigate this.

I would side with you Duck, the ride height and spring rates are most likely the problems.

Also, if you're spinning out under braking your car is probably set up with too much bias towards the rear brakes, making the back end lock up. Try messing around with all three of the things mentioned and let us know if you get an improvement. I too have issues with 88C-V stability

It's annoying like that. That's what Polyphony Digital did to it, because they felt guilty about making it so fast. So now it has madness in it's method at over 200mph and massive rear tyre wear, which is probably why Bob can't drive it at all! I like it for it's flat-out speed, but give me an R8 anyday ;)

With the Minolta, I never experienced any stability problems, and I even tried to spin it out on the test course at 230 mph, and it never wanted to oversteer. I even used the d-pad at Sarthe II and it was harder to make it turn, let alone spin out.

I think you need to see if the Rigidity Refresher Plan is unchecked in the tuning section of the appropriate dealership, and if it is, then you need to buy it, because not having it makes the car unstable. Also, I would recommend you to use the analog stick for turning because it's much more precise, and IMO, easier to use.

And with the braking problem, set the brakes to 6 / 2, and see if that helps.

You're probably right with the fact that my arrow steering isnt very efficient with that kind of cars and speeds. But.. the fact remains that cars like the kaira and astra touring car are ultra stabil at high speeds, and i wondered if it could be fixed with the minolta. Unfortunately, the only way is buying a wheel i guess :P I aint gonna be putting effort in steering with the small joysticks.. cant do it. :D

thanx anyway

The 88C-V in my garage may well have lost it's chassis integrity, but as it's a speed car I do not want to refresh it so I suppose I'll have to cope with the shoddy stability. It's not that it won't stay in a straight line on the track Duck, I attempted to spin mine at 310mph and it wouldn't, but if you clip the grass under braking she's gone, and clipping the grass is very easy because it's prone to jump slightly... At least, mine is :p

I have a Toyota Minolta 88C-V Race Car '89 but it's perfectly stable with my setup, I also have brake controller set to 5,7 so I can turn even sharper through cornering. Still I don't have these problems you guys are mentioning. I also have a fully tuned Mazda 787B Race Car '91 that can do Mid Field Raceway in 1 minute, B-Spec does it in 1.02.xx.

Thing is, with tuning it's like opinions and arses, everyone's got one.:sly:

Best thing to do Powerslider is to experiment, test and learn for yourself, and you'll have a setting that's suited to your driving.:)

I think just about the best way to stop the car juddering is to simply soften the suspension. Despite scare stories about this ruining responses I don't think it does, but it certainly stops juddering at speed.

In my line of tuning work (see sig links:) ) you learn a lot of things about stability, and softening the suspension is the best way. You might get the 'Churchill Effect' though, where the car starts to bob up and down at speed... Oh well.

I had the same'ish problem with my Nissan R92CP, at fast speeds when i slighty turned the car went out of control so what i did is turned the toe in MAX front and rear and its helped sort out the problem a lot but not completely.
