Toyota has had tremendous success so far with its joint venture with Subaru to give us the new GT86/BRZ (which then led to the Scion FR-S) since this, Tetsuya Tada; the lead engineer for the new GT86, has announced a new concept to be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in November and has announced that is a project apart of Toyota's new joint venture with BMW.
Unlike the Toyota/Subaru collaberation with the GT86, the new car will be a mid-sized sports car but will have distinct styling according to both the manufactuerer's desgin philosophies.
Tada says the following on the BMW-Toyota project:
"I am hoping for a synergy effect with BMW that will result in a product that none of us could have imagined; something more than anyone expects."
I would even go so far as to say that for the collaboration to work we have to bring a product which exceeds all these expectations.
Tada has high expectations for both the new found partnership and for the new project. Altough it is unclear how the new sports car will fit into the current BMW range, it has been reported that the new car will be refered to a successor to the Supra.
Despite all the rumours of a new Supra and all speculations, have Toyota finally listened to our cry? More importantly, what do you think of this collaberation and what do you think of a possible Supra to spawn with German engineering?
