Hi Guys,

Have a question that hopefully someone can answer given sony and PD wont....

I help run an Australian GT6 league which runs on a Sunday night where we have "around" 100 drivers spread over 7 divisions all trying to get onto the same track at about 8pm sydney time....

Given we have been having a hell of a time with server stability, DSC's, players not able to see each other and a heap of other issues, could it be that flooding the same track at about the same time have any issue with the servers......(yes we are aware of all the other game / server issues before you spend your time listing them)

Personally, i dont think it would given a max of 16 in each room should split the connection to the server, but if someone thinks different or has info that will shed any light on it please reply !!!

Cheers
Stu

Thanks charlie, we do know all those things...

was hoping to be a little more specific with 100 odd guys all hitting the 1 track at the same time and if that would affect anything....

I wouldn't think so Stu.

You can imagine the flogging a new track like Red Bull or Mid-Field would get when it's first released.
So my guess is the issues are 'normal', as opposed to being caused by a large group.

Doubt it's about the track.

I have found setting no visible damage, no mic's, and the quality set on HIGH helps with connection status. It also depends on one's internet connection and its stability.
I heard less stars are better for those having problems which would make more sense.

I have actually been wondering how guys like you, that are trying to run leagues, have been coping with the intolerable online conditions.

To answer all your questions, No, I do not think "track flooding" is the problem. Online is just **BAD**, all he time, everywhere. I goes from bad to worse to even worse >:-(

I have not seen good stable internet the whole time GT6 has been out. There have been continuous problems since launch.

What is guaranteed to make it worse is when they do server maintenance. "Maintenance" is PD's code word for let's knock the net out for a week ;-)

BTW Stuart you know me as TT__777 and we have raced together before and I have several friends that do ROOZ.

Also this is one of the reasons why I am only a casual racer ;-) If I was serious about championships I would go insane over these conditions ;-)

Hey TT. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, you know what we are trying to do and that we try to run a pretty slick set up.

I suppose we are just looking for anything that might give an answer or two for the horrible online at the moment. Just thinking outside the square, it seems though the servers are just rubbish, added to the string and can australian network we might just have to accept we are fighting an uphill battle for it to work the way we want !

Long answer:

To put a better perspective on it let's compare GT6 to Call of Duty games. Previously (I think it was Black Ops) when online they gave you how many people in the world were on line. It was not uncommon to see 350,000 people. Lobbies were up to 16 people and they tracked all the bullets from each gun plus the 3 dimensional movements of the players as well as other stuff that flew around e.g helicopters, bombers, falling debris, grenades etc. So in comparison GT6 trying to track 16 individual cars in 3D space seems a lot easier to me. My point is, it can be done but PD seems to not have the ability (or will) to do it properly.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. PCARS releases 2nd of April and could quite possibly be what we are all looking for. The only unknown is how the servers will work online. The rest of the hype sounds very good though and championships can be set up. We will wait and see.

Short answer: You're screwed ;-)

And I do truly sympathise 'cos I do know how much time and effort goes into these things and the personal frustration you must be feeling at the moment.

That does seem to happen.
Each time there is maintenance, there are troubles for some days.

In our club...
Some days things are nearly perfect.
Some days are full of troubles.
Ironically, sometimes when we have more people, the room is better. :boggled:
So I'm not sure what the issue is.

I firmly believe this though:
Less people on wifi in the room = better
People on tethered mobile internet = worse
People with hard wire connections directly to the modem from ps3 = better
people with bridged routers = worse

Mics ON = worse
mics disabled = better

And we've also started limiting the rooms.
IE: if 10 people are signed up for the event I limit the room to 14. (to allow for some late shows)
I think this has been helping but I'm not even sure about that.
Regardless, obviously that's impossible if you have 16 potential racers.

The main thing that's been bugging me lately is how bugged the qualifier system is.
I hate the qualifier.
I wish you could do "solo run" in free run for qualifying. :(
Each time anymore we try to run the qualifier, almost invariably, when the qualifier ends & before race start, there's long black screen, and often someone exits, freezes, or gets DC'd.
(This hasn't happened on normal race starts much.)

This has been so bad that we've been using an alternate system for first race grid line up. :indiff:

Pretty sure I read that dedicated servers were in the works for PCars. Note sure if that was for all platforms though.
