I though the track limits was a bit OCD before but now there just ridiculous after patch.3! Every lobby I joined last night with 12+ racers only had 3-5 real times being set in the quali sessions. At Imola my favourite track I could not set a lap time because touching the curb with one wheel in the wrong place results in a slow down penalty. A penalty that wants you to almost pull up or your lap time is invalid. Even worse if you touch a curb anywhere in the last sector your lap and next lap are invalid. It should be two wheels on the track at all times not all four wheels and leave foot just in case the back slides a bit. When you are on limit and clip a curb you should not get penalized like you do in the game. If you straight line a corner or gain a big advantage then fair enough. I also see that the "Give the position back" glitch is still there. When a car has spun out on track and you touch the white lines to avoid contact. Even though the guy is facing the wrong way on track? "Give the position back" how is that an illegal overtake? The system is just messed up and if you turn them off in public lobby's you get people straight lining chicanes and cutting corners just for fun. Or because they had an off and don't want to come last. I saw one guy cut every corner at Dubai making it like an oval until he was kicked. Its starting to get to the stage where you can not touch the curbs at all. Its really messing up public lobby's to to point where you have to make your own with friends only so you can turn the penalty's off.

Yep for the first time last night I seriously wished for pc1's penalty system. I can't believe I'd ever think that!

The problem pc2 has created is the opposite of it's ultimate intent- customers.

Because of the penalty system "tweaks" and the aggressive licence system, all it is going to do is drive competitive leagues even further underground as they attempt to counter these issues by turning them off and using human stewards.

The penalty and licence systems should be intelligent and autonomous that random players can race random players in lobbies, but it's doing the exact opposite already.

I can't remember the last time I had a public lobby race. It's always leagues or with people I already know.

It will be no surprise if people leave in droves. But I'm ok with that. We will be left with a private racing toy!

Patch overall is a great but changes to penalty system are terrible.

SMS - can we have a countdown timer please for penalty so we know how much we have to serve - so if you slow down a bit it takes longer to serve but if you slow down a lot the penalty is served more promptly.

And this is not about track limits. It makes no odds whether it is touch a white line or both wheels over the line or whatever - because there is always a limit wherever you choose to draw it. The issue is the penalty when you have made a mistake, it just needs to be more informative and give players the time they need to serve it. I had players last night practically emergency stopping on the final straight at Monza after being given a penalty. That was not happening before the 3.0 update as far as I noticed.

Like I said, great patch overall but penalty system got worse.

It's also.... dumb... you can run wide and lose some time, get a further penalty that means you have to slow down for an unknown amount of time, which then loses you even more time 5 - 10sec depending on the part of the track when you have to pick up speed again... oooor you could go "no **** off you stupid ****" carry on and only get a 1-3 second time penalty.

Hmmm what would you choose especially if you were a track-cutting cheater? So the fair driver who made an honest mistake gets a much larger penalty because the mistake slowed them down anyway, then they have to slow again.

It penalises the fair driver more than the cheater. It's remarkable achievement of just how much of a fail it has become.

What's most annoying is it is so easy to be more intelligent about it - simply use the same data that already exists for your previous lap data that you get on the HUD, and compare that section of the track to the "cheated" part. If it's faster then invoke penalty. It's not like they have to change much here to get a much better system. It's a few lines of code.

I've often wondered myself why it is so hard to set up an automatic system that is capable of discerning whether your off-track adventure caused you to actually gain or lose time. With contact it's obviously going to be really tough but when going off it should be possible to check a few hundred yards down the road(or at the very least at the next sector time) whether you were faster or slower than your(or your class's) typical time/speed through that area.

But I'm not sure anybody has had one yet that really works right - there might be but not one I've played - so there must be something that complicates it. Difficulty in getting the math right to avoid false positives... Resource drain due to checking for advantage(or whether you need to check for advantage, or keeping a reference time to check)... Too low on the priority list of someone who has never been screwed over by it... something. Some are better than others, but most automatic systems seem to let you blatantly cheat in one area and brutally punish you for making a mistake in another area.

Void the lap time for any infraction, sure. But penalties for losing gobs of time and track position is just adding injury to injury with some insult for good measure. One day, perhaps.

Well racing is about being fair and there is no fairer judge than 1 or more humans. Most leagues that are worth anything have human stewards reviewing incidents on replay anyway.

It would be a winner if there was an automatic system that recorded every off-track moment and saved it as a replay that a human steward could review later to determine if it was deliberate and if someone gained an advantage. If it could be done live during a race, it would be as "real" as they want to make the racing. Maybe that should be the race directors real job, not controlling cameras.

In fact I reckon a realistic system that could do this live would be, as SMS like to persistently claim, truly ground-breaking.

I'm wasted being just a player. ;)

I'm an offline player on XBONE. I'm getting pinged up to 31 seconds and a drive thru at the penultimate laps in my races. Wasn't like this before. I just finished a Multi-Class GT3/GT4/TC/TC1. I got 52 seconds worth of penalties and "Box Box Box this lap to serve your drive thru" at Monza. Haven't crashed AI, AI hasn't hit me. No running off road, no going thru the chicanes. Can't save replays to post for analysis.

Had a horrible experience in Hockenheim Classic an hour ago. Couldn't finish a single lap. What the Hell?? Even with 2 tires clearly on the Track?? Game breaker for me.

Penalties are greatly improved on.
I smiled seeing +2 attached to the guy I just watched clip a corner a little too much.

While those who actually slow down lose way more than 2secs. How can this be fair?

Track limits needs to be much more intelligent. Penalty system needs redoing from the ground up.

I have no problem with the penalties. Just 50%+ on the track. For me penalties are perfect now.

I'm sorry but i have gotten penalty's for one tyre touching the white line on corner exits e.g the hairpin at Nurburgring GP in a race last night and this was after slowing down all the up through the chicane until the fast left hander. So your theory of 50%+ on track is way off unless you have a different penalty system to me. Everyone i know who plays the game and even random poeple in lobby's hate the way the system has been changed. I mean last night i get forced wide off track by a rammer manage to hold it on the grass get back on track and im hit with a slowdown warning after already losing 3 places? Where are the penalty's for the rammers? the system is ****!

Even if you follow the AI line at times you will get a slowdown penalty while the AI will not. So while the AI can cut corners if you go slightly off you get a penalty.

Over on the official forums it has been said the penalties have been developed for online racing! What i'd hope for the future is we can have a different system for offline and online as seeing AI cars run wide while you slightly run wide and have to slowdown while the AI is totally uneffected is just wrong imo.

I just missed the turn, went to the gravel for safety and then I got a message to give the position to a guy that was at least 30 seconds behind me. Nonsense

Track Limits were tolerable in the previous patch. But they're not now.

Just gave up on a league race at Monza. Hopped all 4 wheels over the final kerb at the Ascari chicane and nobody was near me. Hit the brakes hard so they wouldn't give me a penalty. Went down a gear, nope. Now those cars were slightly near me. Did it again at the end of the straight near the Parabolica. Nope. 1 second penalty.

Went wide at T1. Used the proper route. Might have hit a board but it was still relatively proper. Came out slightly ahead of the guy I was racing. Looked more like I had lost a gap than gained it. Hit the brakes so it would go away. Nope. Slightly cut inside of 2nd chicane. Try hitting the brakes again. Nope. 3 second penalty.

Went wide at Lesmo 2. Into the gravel and lost a reasonable amount of time. (Reasonable being a time loss from exiting the track.) No chance I can be bothered to lose a small amount of time giving the millions of seconds back.

Got a drive through and lost all care in that race. This was an AOR race just now. Gave up in the middle of it. No chance I'm bothering to play a game I once loved when that happens.

EDIT:
I should probably clarify that I meant with TL penalties on. In the heat of the moment, yadda yadda yadda. Still a fun game no doubt.
