Tracking Lobby Issues

The purpose of this thread is to keep track of glitches and missing features for the lobbies that were on past games. I have seen a couple of threads but they are missing some info.

Currently, the connection issues are:
  • Initial connection to enter the lobby menu is over 30 seconds
  • Host unable to start race on some occasions Fixed
  • Players do not see everyone at the track for the second race in succession Fixed
  • After a pitstop, a player will look to be in the pits for the remainder of the race Fixed
  • After a pitstop, a player might be seen going backwards for the remainder of the race Fixed
  • After host initiates the race, some players get a black screen Fixed
  • When a race is in progress, some players are unable to watch it Fixed
  • Some players can be seen experiencing extreme warping during a race Fixed
  • At random times some players get disconnected Fixed
  • Host cannot start a race because a player is joining the lobby
  • Multiple players finishing in the same position (tested it many times - this happens when some people get stuck on a pitstop) Fixed
Now the needed features:
  • Unable to save a lobby preset Fixed
  • Unable to change any of the options once a lobby was created Fixed
  • Host is unable to transfer the lobby to someone else
  • Unable to buy car parts within the lobby Fixed although limited
  • Unable to create a lobby as a fixed or mesh option (fixed means everyone exchanges data with host only which improves loading times but depends on host having a very good connection. Mesh means that everyone exchanges data with everyone else and as a result loading times increase but stability is better)
Nice to have:
  • Display fastest laps from all players (while practicing/qualifying)
  • Set a timer to automatically start the race (past GT's had this feature and prevents the constant "start the race" messages)
  • Serve time penalty by braking or lifting gas pedal at any point during the race
  • Show live delta of your current lap based on your best lap
  • Increase rewards
  • Drivetrain restrictions
  • One-make racing
  • Display a counter or notification to alert people that a race is about to start (sometimes you are in the tuning screen)
  • Preset chat messages Fixed
  • Show race results
  • Status on lobby menu to show the state (practice/racing) of the lobby
Added in 1.17:
  • Message at the top of menu showing NAT type
  • New refueling speed based on L/sec
Added in 1.26:
  • Added qualifying format
  • Added Endurance format
  • Races can now be based on time limits

I think I have covered all major issues (if I missed some, please let me know and I will update this page to start tracking it). I am in disbelief at how poor the lobbies are currently. This is because, in comparison, the Sport mode has much better connections, better features, and PD keeps adding new stuff.

I wish they would remove the "fastest lap" feature from the lobbies designated as Free run. That way players could host cruising or other lobbies without some idiot(s) barging in just to do hot laps, while others are taking it easy. Same with the drift lobbies.

When looking in the "known issues" for GT7...

I see no mentions of how lobby's are broken and settings cannot be changed once the lobby has been opened.

It is very possible that in PD's eyes... maybe the lobby's are not broken and they will not be changing this 'feature" anytime soon

We need to know if the players are already racing or still in practice, before entering the room as in GTSport.
That's the MINIMUM, literally a crumble thrown at the community, yet they seems not to care!

The second thing which have the highest priority is the host migration, because it's unbearable getting kicked in the middle of the race just because the host rage quit, electricity blackout, the dog hit the power button, someone rings the doorbell, got a phone call or whatever reason.....

Very true. I guess you mean the "host ended the game" message, more than being kicked, but yes I get your point.

Luckily, seems that tomorrow we will start having non-DR races, which might be a substitute to the lobbies until they get fixed (if ever).

I stopped with lobbies for this very reason. More than half the rooms I enter have already started so back out and have to to through the whole process of applying filters again. And then I have to remember the names of lobbies I’ve already tried as often I would go back into the same ones.

And if you wait... 99% of the times after finishing the race... "Host ended the game". Got to love GT7... (to keep playing it!)

Sounds cool. How will this work? U know? Random races everytime? Or just unranked weekly races? Where can I find information?

What do you mean that lobbies got endurance format in 1.26? It was always possible to choose "Race" for laps or "Endurance" for a timed race.

Before there was no time limit for endurance and now there is.

I also found what seems to be a glitch: when you choose practice/qualifier/race option for the lobbies, the time you post during qualifying will be saved for the next time you qualify in the same track. For example, if I post a time of 1:40 at Road Atlanta during qualifying, for the second race (qualifier) the same time will be used if you don't beat it. What a waste of time! What's the point in qualifying then?

When the host leaves, transfer the host duties to the next player and not abandon the lobby.

Many times, I have been in a lobby that grew into a gathering of clean drivers (usually takes a few races to filter out the dirt), only to have the host quit. It would be good if we are able to keep the lobby open because sometimes, building a clean room takes time.

I usually send friend requests whenever I find clean drivers. Build a good driver base.

Check the lobby settings when creating one, there is a whole new section about timers.

They added the qualifier session and you can set the durarion and continuation time of that session. But the "Endurance" lobby format has been there since Day 1, where you can set the race as a certain time and not laps.

Maybe there is some miscommunication between us on this? :)

Anyone else experiencing the lap timer not starting until the third lap?
So far the only fix is resetting the lobby to correct it.
