Tranny experts, I need your help.

After putting back my rebuild transmission, a GM 400, I noticed there was a small leak on the output shaft. The guy who build my tranny told me that in his opinion there was something strange with my yoke. The part that moves over the O-ring on the output shaft was a bit short, and that there is a hole on the end of the yoke, like this :

What I want to know is, is that hole there for a reason?
Or could I get the hole plugged, or get a closed yoke to seal the shaft completely? The output shaft on the tranny is short enough for me to remove 5-8 mm of the splines to put a cap in the yoke.

I found out that my yoke should be bolted to the output shaft, and my shaft doesn't have the threaded hole. So, it is the wrong yoke for the tranny. It should be half an inch or so longer so it goes further over the O ring, but I am not sure if that would fit.

So, I will be scavenging tomorrow through mountains of US car parts to find a longer yoke, with the proper U joint width.

I just want to drive my truck, dammit!

If your shaft is squeaking in the O-ring then you're running your tranny dry. Add some synthetic lube and push it around to spread everything out. If one O-ring is worn out, you can try the rear O-ring. This is assuming that your housing accepts use of the rear O-ring.

I just edited an error in my previous post. I don't have the thread hole in the shaft, but I do have the yoke for the threaded shaft, and if my search skills did not let me down, the yoke with the hole is shorter than the one without the hole, the one I need.

There is only 1 O ring on my shaft, and it's a good 5-6 inches into the rear of the tranny.

Update after a bright moment, which came after a lot of google, scavenging and other shenanigans...

The output shaft must have had a threaded hole once, but that has been cut off. Therefor non of the yokes I found would fit properly. It is the only logical thing I can think of.
I'm going to call the guy who rebuild the tranny if he has a shaft for me, and the instructions to remove it without pulling the tranny out of the truck.

The gearbox needs to be pulled out of the truck, and then completely disassembled to pull out the output shaft, which is the first thing that goes into the gearbox when rebuilding it.
Crap.

I'll lock this, as it has now become useless.
