Tranny whine in certain gears ('91 P10)

Figured that since I'm driving a Nissan I might as well ask the question here.

The Nissan I'm driving, a '91 P10 Primera, (w/ SR20DE and five-speed) has transmission whine in mainly fourth gear, and sometimes second under hard stress (such as full throttle up to approx 80km/h). Being a bit worried about a potential tranny-transplant, is this normal? It's been there ever since we bought it, and it hasn't grown any louder.

The noise is not loud, but rather very silent and only occurs during accelerations into higher speeds. It sounds very much like a supercharger, but completely disappears when I shift into another gear.

Any advice? For now I'm relying on the engine's power to get me up to speed, skipping fourth (hoping that it'll probably make it last longer), but I really want to know if a breakdown is on it's way.

For reference, our '96 P10 five-door w/ CD20 engine does not whine in any of the gears (but then again, I think it's a different tranny as well).

Sounds like you have alittle wear, but really nothing to worry about.

Sometimes replacing gearbox oil fixes the whine, its probably a good idea to replace the oil anyway if you havent already.

I had a 5 speed gearbox in my car that whined real loud in all gears, lasted a couple years until I broke it by slapping gears while flat changing trying to get the tyres to chirp, but that had nothing to do with the whine.
