Newbie here, did a search on this but without result, sorry in case it was covered somewhere here. :guilty:
Just bought PS2 and GT4 today (late bloomer!).
Used to play GT1 on PS1 many years ago and still have the memory stick with all the credits and cars from it (covered in dust in the closet), so just wondered if I can stick it in on my new PS2 and transfer credits just like GT3 can do to GT4?
I have a feeling that I will have to start from scratch with GT4, but....
Thanks in advance

Nope, you're only allowed to transfer the basic licenses and 100,000cr from a GT3 save.

starting from scratch is not a bad thing to do. it gives you plenty of time to appreciate the game and build up your driving skill allowing it to develop with progress.

Started from scratch, played 6 hours straight and finally got silver & better B-license (9 gold and 7 silver) got VW Lupo and Mazda Kusabi. Time to go racing. Hooked again, this game is going to totally mess up my time schedule and life style.

No, you can only copy the game saves from GT4 prolouge isn't it? If you can get them from GT3 im doing that as I've got golds in everything, but sadly my wheel doesn't work with GT4 and I can't afford to get that 900° one.

Add some nitrous to your Kusabi and take it to the special conditions hall, race 2 on easy, you will win fairly easily with it, and win a prize car worth 250,00 credits to boot.
As others have said before, if you want credits in a hurry, just win, sell the car, rinse the records and repeat to your hearts content.

Rince and repeat, errr. Sounds like grinding to me. I don't recall having to grind in GT3. There were few tricks to get money quick in GT3. I dont know if there are any in GT4

I just got the game too and i transfered 100k from my GT3 saves.

After spending nearly 70k on a used Skyline GT 1999 (boosted to 419 mph)
I find it hard to recover the cost. It took me several hours just to get the money back.

At the moment, i win like 7500 credits per race (5 laps). At this rate its going to take me forever to buy a real race car.

Listen to what I am saying.
Get a decent car, your Skyline will be more than adequate, and go to the Special conditions hall, bottom left of the main screen.
Enter the second event, you have to do 2 races, for which you get 5,000 credits each, then you win the car. If you go back to do these again, you are asked if you want to clear the records for that event. If you choose to clear the records you can win the car over and over again. Thus giving you 260,000 credits for about 18 minutes work, looks like pretty easy credits to me.

Thanks for the tips Oxide!
I'm gonna keep grinding for a week or so to see where I get to, will use your tip if I get stressed out. Right now, 45,000cr (after spending 6hrs at beginners events and Japanese events with Kusabi/lupo/Mazda6/old civic) and about to buy an old Evo and boost.

There is a faster way to earn credits. Get a car which is qualified for German DTM Championship in European Hall. Best choice, Audi TT-R, Mec-B touring car or Opel astra touring. Upgrade turbo, join the race A-spec or B-spec up to you, you will be ended up with close to $900,000 credits after 5 races. (award is Mec-B CLK-GTR which can be sold at $743,000)

Yes, that's faster, but these guys just started the game. Somehow I doubt they have the money for a mercedes and will go through all that to get the money. Plus, I don't know for sure, but I think you need more licenses than a B to do all those races. The special conditions method is much better when just starting the game :) Plus, I don't know if a brand spankin new B-spec driver could handle that championship with no experience. It is good to keep in mind though :)

Oh yea, i tested your trick and got myself 1.5 milion in less than an hour.

I just bough a mini cooper for fun.... i dunno why but i always wanted to try that car :)

Anyone here own one ? or testdrove it in real life ?

Pod, its not a trick, just a way of earning credits fast, oh, and it was someone else who discovered it. I, also found out about it on this board.
Why struggle for days and days to earn a few paltry credits in the beginner hall when there are short cuts like this ?
Just bear in mind that not all prize cars have a sale value, some have no credit rating, so are not worth winning more than once.

gotta ask tho, why would you want to? i mean arent you just cheating yourself? :)

do it the hard way for your own sake!@

Personal choice, or your own point of view, I suppose.
I've tried it the hard way, and the easier way, just gives you a choice.
After all, it doesn't matter how many credits you have, if you can't drive, the game will sort you out sooner or later. 50 million credits will not help you pass the licence tests will they ?
Did you cheat to start with by transferring credits from your GT3 save game ? :)

in my case i have a busy schedule... i rather grind in real life to unlock a real car than grinding for a virtual car :)

I used to be a hardcore gamer... but not anymore. now i have other priorities...

And like the other guy said... you still have to work real hard to unlock your licenses...

I found the game more fun starting from scratch. I found it fun using unmodded cars and only buying essential upgrades and having to plan purchases not just buy what you want. I can't wait to get to 100% just to start again with a better idea of what is required in terms of power and handling to win each championship. For instance, now money isn't an object I have just bought a Civic type R (newest one) to do the type R and civic one make race meets. This walked the civic race meets in standard trim, so i could have done it with a 5 grand second hand civic and had more fun.
I still regularly limit myself to either 5, 10 or 15 grand to purchase a car, then only allow myself to spend cash on it that I have won using it. and then plan a second purchase again without spending any of the millions I had previously. Last time I got an 1983 lancer, Classic!!!

Its a shame its not possible to have more than one game save on a memory card

i started from scratch and am currently @ 38-40% completion range. Cause i suck @ the testing, i cant get the damn benz around nurburgring.. my first car was the 92 EVO.. had 300 hp, i think i just found a car that was an oddball.. got lucky? Then i accidentally found the uhh "shortcut" on Fuji speedway. lol... and the rest is history :) i sell cars that i dont use, i keep cars i dont get any money for, so i can use them in Arcade mode..there's a lil tab there just for your cars :)

I started from scratch in GT3 , so i deserved my 100k :)

You all paid your money, so play the game the way you want.

I started from scratch as well, but am not shy about going to get the credits built up any way I can.

To be honest, I think that the best way to start is to at least silver the first licence, then you get a decent car to attack some of the early races.
