Long time lurker, first time poster....but ok, I figure someone here has to know whats up with this.

I'm using my roommate's PS3 (old fat 40gb I think or something), and I've been playing GT5 like crazy on it of course, but he got a new place and will be taking the system with him, so I'm left to buy a new slim model...the problem is, I really don't wanna lose all my time invested in GT5 (that would seriously suck). Is there anyway humanly possible to copy my data and saves off his ps3 and onto my new one (including the GT5 stuff)? Even if say, I set up my new ps3 with the same user account name and attach my psn id to it, will that help? I'll run the back up utility onto a FAT3 drive, will that copy everything on there, including the copy protected stuff? Or is there no way at all to use copy protected saves from one system on another? Because if so, that is really flawed and messed up....that literally means HOURS and HOURS of time in GT5 (and other games) just wasted. I mean did Sony not create/allow any loophole for this kind of scenario? Help!

If you have a loophole for that then Copy protecting the save is useless. I agree with the copy protect except I think that the "save data" should be locked to the User ID then this would help people like you (if you used your own ID) on his PS3 but then I think that Sony would have to have a work around because as far as I know I don't think you can have an ID on more than one PS3. This would help players that buy new PS3 and transfer their accounts over, buying new PS3 because of wanting Slim or the Ole YLOD.

How did you find out about an update to allow copying GT5 saves? I'm leaving town for 10 days on the 21st, and would LOVE to be able to grab my game save and play on my friend's PS3 while I'm gone

This needs to happen soon. I just picked up a slim from the sheer paranoia of my 60gb getting ylod. So that one is moving to the bedroom strictly as a bluray/dvd player. I however, don't want to start over so I am waiting for the update so I can pick up where I left off.

Like it was mentioned.. You do a System Data Transfer. It's on the same page as System Restore. It will guide you through copying all your files (Inculding protected ones) to another system.

Case Closed?
