Hello,

I just received a PS3 for Christmas. I need to transfer my GT5P (and Ghostbusters) files to my system. How can this be done? I called Best Buy and they said they can do it but for a small fee. Anyway I can do this on my own for free?

With the last update you can transfer most data from 1 PS3 to another via ethernet cord.
In the XMB you will see this option.

It was very simple and took 15 to 20 minutes.

If all you want is your GT and ghostbusters info then just copy it to an USB flash drive and transfer it, that's all.

Thank you for the quick reply. Excellent, the first thing I did was update my PS3 as soon as I turned it on. What does XMB mean?

Put flash drive into first PS3.
Go to "Game" on the PS3 menu (called the XMB) as above.
Go up to Save Data Utility.
Find gamesave you want to copy. Press Triangle. Select "Copy".
On Select Destination, select USB flash drive. Press X.

Put flash drive into second PS3.
Go to "Game" on the PS3 menu (called the XMB) as above.
Go up to USB Flash Drive.
Find gamesave you want to copy. Press Triangle. Select "Copy".

Job jobbed.

I tried that this morning. My brother and I both have the new PS3 slim units. I copied a game file from my PS3 onto a flash drive, then put it on his PS3. But it didn't recognize the file. (Ghostbusters). Perhaps it didn't work because he are logged into our own PlayStation network accounts?

Some saves are copy protected and some are tied to your PSN account, so it won't always work. The problem is, if they are copy protected, there's not a lot you can do; even the data transfer with an Ethernet cable won't work. I can't really remember but I'm pretty sure I managed to clone my 60gb HDD onto my 120gb to save having to get a separate external hard drive but I'm not sure if that actually happened, and even if it did that was cloning a PS3 system coded for that PS3 back onto the same PS3, I've heard that each PS3's system is locked to that PS3... In fact yeah, that wouldn't work because if it did you would be able to just swap your HDD's over, which you can't do.

So, in short, if your saves are copy protected, there's unfortunately not much you can do.
