Transferring your save file? (And yes, I did use the Search tool!) =p

Right: so, in the near future, I'm most likely going to be getting a new PS3. I wanted to transfer my GT5 data off the current one.

I searched using the criteria:

transfer save new ps3

and found these two threads:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=177402

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=135276

The two threads answer some questions, but raise a couple more:

1. If I transfer via USB, do I first need to install GT5 on the new PS3 before I transfer the data?

2. Would transferring the data from the old PS3 to the new one (via Settings-> System settings-> Data transfer utility) be the better route to go? (And same question as above; will I need to install GT5 after doing the data transfer? As far as I can infer from the discussion in the second thread, this method just clones your old drive, and so one wouldn't need to reinstall GT5, but I'd like to be certain beforehand.)

Any help is appreciated. Thank you. :)

1. No, you don't have too.

2. Using a USB to transfer a single game save is easier. But if you are transfering MORE then just GT5 game save...date transfer utility works best.

Excellent; thank you. :D

You can only transfer data between the same PSN. If you are using a different PSN on the second PS3, it will not allow you to use the same save file.

You can use your save file on any PS3 as long as play the game with the same online PSN account. I have 3 PS3.

Yes, thanks for repeating the exact same thing as what I said.
