Good news everyone.

I was driving my Ruf BTR on nurburgring and it just out of no where hit me that i could not hear the transmission whine, Just a faint and i mean "faint" hint of a racing transmission, Did PD Alter(Fix) the current transmission drone? Because before it was insanely loud, over taking the engine/exhaust noise, but now i can only hear it very loudly in hood/roof cam, But to my amazement while driving more car's it became prominent that it was altered, Which is excellent news, this only appears to be in cockpit view, Hood/roof is extremely loud(pretty realistic concerning straight cut gearing/racing gearing transmissions, But yes the noise while in car is non existent for the most part, Have not tried racing transmission on a bone stock car though, But yes as i can tell it is gone by a great margin, i only hear the engine/exhaust or turbo noises and a faint whine. Which is nice!

Anypony else notice?

Transmission whine has never bothered me. I also use bumper cam, so am unsure if this even affects me.

Glad all the whining got the whining turned down. For those that found it annoying anyways.

While I can still hear it, I am convinced that PDI has designed the sound for use with a 7.1 sound system of some type. When I use my Sony 7.1 headset, the sound is a thing a beauty.

When I play GT5 from the bumper cam, the loudest noise I hear is the exhaust noise. It is followed by the transmission and tires.

If anything, sliders for the individual sound volumes would benefit those who do not have 7.1 sound system.

I use 5.1, and the transmission whine usually drowns out everything in bumper cam. Of course, my speaker setup is a bit wonky because of a house reorganization last August.

But what do I know, I shouldn't be responding here because I'm not a pony

They changed some stuff around a couple of patches ago (I think it was whatever patch that they redid the wind noise), but I'm pretty sure they didn't do anything to it with the latest patch.

I noticed with a Lancia Stratos running a racing exhaust the car itself is so loud you can hardly hear the transmission.

I'm pretty certain it havn't been changed, I still hear the same level of transmission whine, which is why I avoid using it on road cars as much as possible. Thankfully most race cars sounds decent.

So, technically, since I'm not a pony, I shouldn't even be responding to this thread

You are equally annoying. Stop it.

Using 7.1 output via HDMI into a very balanced speaker setup.. meaning all speakers the same brand/model and balanced using mic connected to home theater receiver so receiver can automatically equalize and balance all the speakers.

I haven't noticed any difference with racing trans. in cockpit view, but I'll listen more carefully next time and report back if I notice a difference.

I did try it today, though I can't remember what car - I think it was a Dodge Ram? Either way, it was bearable in bumper cam.

Last time I drove my Beelte, the trans whine was running over everything else... I haven't tried it post-patch yet.

I also did a bunch of wallgrinds on Route X in a Nissan Stagea today (since I was already racing around SSRX when I remembered), but couldn't get through. I'm not sure if the glitch has been pointlessly patched or if you specifically need a GTR to get through.

You are equally annoying. Stop it.

Oh really? I'm pretty sure that if I started spewing trite down-homey backwoods slang, people would call me out on it, and I'd have the majority against me. So how is it less annoying when someone uses brony slang outside the brony thread? Explain that to me.

WTF?

Do you speak English or anything comprehensible?

Look at his sig, not only is he a registered brony basher, he started the brony basher registery...

I have noticed the whine is slightly less loud recently, but it's still bad enough to ruin the sound of some cars.

What's your deal, man? My point is: if one type of slang is annoying (and I know it would be) how is another type of slang not annoying? Some guy goes out of his way to say "anypony" instead of "anyone" or "anybody" and it's like... what's the point seriously. It'd be like me always using some stupid bit of slang for no other reason than to be "cute"... an example would be saying "Nice going, pardner" instead of "good idea". People would tire of that quickly so why is "anypony" any different?

You have your own little clique... the zero dupe community. You say duping is cheating. If that's the charge, I stand guilty & am proud of it, and I plan on doing it again.

I wasn't saying hating bronies is wrong, personally i can't understand why anyone would want a pony for an avatar anyway... I was just "stirring the pot" so to speak.

I will admit that I disagree with people duping (and see it as cheating), I try to keep it mostly to myself. I know how many GTP members do it, I know why they do it and I can see their point. I'm not here to attack other people for how they go about playing the game.

My cheat free platinum is just as valuable as someone who rubber banded and glitched their way to it, if I like it or not. I can't change that and I can't force my opinions on anyone else, so I joined a group of people with similar ideology in the zero dupe community.

Why on earth would you want the transmission whine to be reduced? Have any of you ever actually been inside a car with straight cut gears? Its loud as ****!

Because some people would like the choice to put up with it rather than be forced to put up with it. I can't even drive either of the Chaparrals for more than a race or two without getting a headache. What benefit does the transmission noise serve me then?

I think it´s a bug, now the short gear transmissions (The ones with fixed ratios) whine. I believe they didn´t use to do so.

You mean the two non-adjustable transmission upgrades? They always did it too. I remember because the GT-R Pace Car has one of those transmissions stock and it always annoyed me.

Take your tired crusade elsewhere. It was one word and you've continually been dragging this thread further off topic. It's dropped now.

In that case, nevermind. Still, I liked the sound of the straight-cut gears.

I like the sound of them too, but sometimes I want to modify the transmission on a car without gaining the whine; in real life you can use a different helical gearbox (I have a friend with a 106 Rallye, using the 1.3 gearbox but on a GTi 1.6 engine... Much shorter ratios than the GTi had!) but in GT5 it always has to whine, which I suppose is fine but I'd love an option to either turn it off or down, or alternatively other helical gearboxes.

Of course this game doesn't care much for aesthetics, which is fine, and it's unlikely that in real life you'd go to the lengths and expense of installing race cams, balancing the engine, replacing panels with CF, replacing glass with plastic, installing a rollcage, etc., and then run the thing on the gearbox out of a road car... It just gets too samey after a while. To labour the point somewhat, I've got a Mini Cooper, a GT-R, an Evo Rally car, a Lamborghini and a Mira that all sound the same at 100mph thanks to the gearbox, and it grates.

When I turn GT5 back on, I'll post my settings. To me, it's just about perfect.:)
