Transparent backgrounds?

I'm using MS paint to work on pixel art. I see people with transparent backgrounds and I am wondering if anyone can explain how this is done? BTW, I am running XP.

lol im sure u can use photoshop or paint shop pro 7 (what i use) just buy it online or however, yea when you get stuff free its very limited -_-

then go to "product to download:" and click "animation shop"
then choose a location, and download the trail.
