Tribes: Ascend is a new free to play, First Person Shooter launched for the PC. It is being developed by Hi-Rez Studios. The Tribes seried of games have been around since 1998, predecessing Halo and most other popular FPS games.

It's main drawcard, and difference from other FPS's on the market is it's speed. in this game, an infantryman moving at less than 80 kph (50 mph) is slow. Through use of a jetpack and 'skis' which cancel the effects of friction, a player can reach upwards of 250kph (alot of mph).

It's flagship game mode, funnily enough, is Capture the Flag. but don't take the flag unless your doing 200kph!

This game is free to play, and you can use experience points or buy gold which will unlock classes and weapons. you must have experience points to upgrade weapons

Disclaimer: I was suprised to not see something on this amazing game earlier, it has been in Open Beta for 3 or so months.

Looks like a modded game of COD4 to me...

Could be fun though.

it's nothing like COD at all. the closest refernece (so I've heard) is Halo. It's so much quicker

most of the weapons, unlike COD, etc, are projectiles, even the bullet weapons. You have to lead your target in order to hit them. Most the weapons in COD are hitscan, which means, if you shoot, the bullet instantly gets to the destination.

I can't believe that no one has really taken an interest in this. This game is seriously the best First-Person-Shooter I have ever played...ever! It's even begnning to gain traction as an E-sport.

I cannot stress enough that this game is worth your time, and it's free.
